As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Last trip took about 700 in 8 days but I did not carry a lot of memory with me. We are loaded for bear this time with an upgraded camera and enough memory for 5000+ photos. No excuse this time!! Remember though, if you are going to be taking lots of pics you already know you will also need BATTERIES. These cameras really consume the power (I will be carrying 4 batteries with me good for a total of 700-800 a day). Have fun - take lots of pics.

I generally take about 100 per day.....i've got three 1 GB memory cards. sometimes xfer to a laptop or have CDs burned while i'm there. I believe they were $11.

I took 338 for 6 days worth. And I missed quite a few just because I didn't have the camera ready. Likely could have been closer to 375 or so.

I'm with those recommending the extra memory cards. They're not that exepnsive. You won't need to bring along the laptop (unless you really need to) and instead of downloading photos, you can be doing something else.
I took 1,050 on our December trip (7 days). On several memory cards.
I usually take several memory cards and no laptop so that I don't waste valuable vaca time to transfer pics etc.
I have a 1G and a 2G card (and several older 512 MB cards) si this is definitely plenty of space to use. Once home I can upload into computer for printing, and also this lets me transfer them to photo CS's then I clear the cards for future use.
We too usually take between 60-75 pics per day, but then we usually end up deleting about 10-15 for whatever reason. My upcoming trip will be the first time that I don't have a laptop with me. However, it's just me & Mom on this trip (no kids, extended family, first visits, etc) so I'm expecting the photo count to be a little lower. (how many pictures of the castle do I really need?)
On the other hand, I am hoping to compile pictures from my sister & brother and put together the photo DVD for mom for Christmas. Since we can upload our own pics as well as use the ones from Disney's photopass and some stock images, I think this might be a great idea and I may end up taking MORE since I have devious plot that needs help hatching.
I take between 700-800 while on vacation, and I'm in about 2 of those!!! How come its always the mum's who take the pics and the dads and kids are always in the pics???? Thank God for the photopass!!!
We take a lot of pictures. We did a 16 or 17 day trip last, and I took I think about 1200 pictures, and DH took about 1400. He had a 1 GB card and we had to download it to the computer a couple of times to make more room
We just bought a new camera and gave dd (6yo) our old one. In the last 2wks she took 75 shots at a family BBQ (only stopping because the batteries ran out and we didn't bring extras!) and this past weekend between two hours at the local zoo and a family get together she maxed out the card. Granted I think it's a 512...but it may be 1gb... I can't remember.
So between her and our camera I'm thinking we either get a TON of cards or definitely bring dh's laptop to upload them and clear the cards!
As inexpensive as cards are, I would invest in some extra. I'd rather bring them and not use them, than run out of room and not have any options!
We probably shoot 3,000+ for a week's stay. I take a 4gb and eight 2gb cards with me, like Minniemouse27 I would rather have too many than wish I had more. I will also take a laptop, and burn the images to DVDs and store them on the hard drive. Since hard drives, DVDs and storage cards can and do go bad, this method backs-up my images.

I SOOOO understand this. I have always been behind the camera. This trip its going to be VERY different. We are going with a group of 4 adult (including me and DH) and one child (10 year old DS). We will probably have 4 cameras between the 5 of us - so I'm bound to end up in quite a few shots this go round!! We are actually contemplating getting our DS an inexpensive camera of his own. He is really good about taking care of electronics and has been begging for one for several months now. In fact, he asked me a couple months ago - "Mom, when are you and Dad going to get a new camera?" "Why??" "Well, then I could have your old one." Such a logical little guy!!!
I figure this trip with all the cameras, we are going to have so many pics I'm not going to know what to do!! I'm a scrapper and I KNOW you can't scrap them all even if you wanted to!!!
