Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: \"OH NO!!! I Can\'t Believe I Forgot to Bring.......................\"

I've gotten pretty good at not forgetting anything. Like some of the others, I usually pack way too much stuff. I also use a list and put aside things months ahead of time in my "vacation box".
However, when I was about 12, I forgot my ski jacket wen we were going skiing. I realized while we were in the car, about 2 hours from home!

Re: \"OH NO!!! I Can\'t Believe I Forgot to Bring.......................\"

Since I don't have a very good memory anymore I have to make a list. I use an excel spreadsheet and list everything on there that I will need - down to the -very- basics, this way I can update it whenever I need to. My friends laugh at me It's the -very- basics that I have forgotten - toothbrush, makeup, Yep, left the whole kit at home in the bathroom, on the counter, it was still sitting in the same place when I came home. I swore up and down I packed it. So now, each item gets hilited as it goes in the suitcase.
Debe - you are a life saver...THE BOX, that is the BEST idea ever. I read you posting on a previous msg. I immediately got up walked to into the guestroom and got something to use. Thank you, thank you. It's not pretty yet but it works all the same.

Disneyfan, with a little TLC and some imagination, your box could become a conversation piece!

Glad you like the idea of the box... It sure helps me when getting ready for a trip whether it is a week or a year away.

My BIL laughed at me today when I brought up a packing list I made up for myself on Excel and printed off a copy. (We're going to DL this weekend.)
I told him, you wanna laugh?, you ought to see my packing list for WDW!!
Since I began making lists, I don't forget items anymore, so...go ahead...laugh!

I admit to being resistant to the idea of the Disney Box, as I try (without success) to avoid clutter in the house, but the more I read, the more I become convinced that a box might be a good idea.

Shooter--The Box is a great idea...you could make yours a low profile one and keep it under your bed or something like that. I started using a box for our first trip and found it to be invaluable.

However, last trip somehow or other, our water shoes were left at home. I had them in a plastic bag (because they still has sand in them from a beach trip) inside THE BOX, but as I was pulling stuff out to pack, I must have set them aside. Anyway, they were left at home. Luckily, our feet made it throught TL without problem. You can bet they won't be forgotten again.

We drive everywhere (rather than fly) and the one thing I always forget is kleenex/napkins. In other words, something to wipe the children off with when they spill stuff (one time the little one got carsick - what a nightmare!) I usually leave baby wipes in the car, but they tend to dry out between trips and I forget to replace them. Dry baby wipes are very close to being completely useless!

I once forgot my makeup. Since then, I keep a detailed list of things that I need to bring on my computer. Then I print the copies when I am ready to pack. It is also important to keep a list on yourself and one in your suitcase listing all your clothes and their value in case your luggage is lost. It really is very useful.

Re: \"OH NO!!! I Can\'t Believe I Forgot to Bring.......................\"

When my kids got old enough to pack for themselves and didn't know what to take, I told them to go through their entire day and pack everything that they use or need each day and then all the other things that they want to bring. It helped and then I went after them and packed more.

Re: \"OH NO!!! I Can\'t Believe I Forgot to Bring.......................\"

My kids and I have made "the box" I went to Wally World and bought one of those storage containers and we worked together and made Mickey Ears and pasted WDW pics all over it-they loved it!!!! Now we throw all the essentials in it as we think/buy them. It keeps me organized and keeps them excited!

I went on a float trip the year after my hubby and I married...forgot my underware...still to this day, whenever I pack..."hunny, don't forget the undies!!!" UGH!!!! Why couldn't it have been him that forgot! Needless to say, Im much more organized now!

Next trip Sept 14-23rd WDW and Vero Beach

omickeyursofine, glad to hear your kids had fun making a Disney Box! Have you thought of getting each of your kids their own fanny pack to carry their own items/snacks in the parks?

Rain ponchos. You cannot imagine how many of those yellow rain ponchos we bought over the years because I either left ours at home or back at the resort. We even have the old frosted/clear ones from EPCOT with the old logo on them.

Brenda, I think they are aroung $5 or $5.50... I should remeber as I left ours in the resort and had to purchase some more! Like you said, I too like the ponchos.

If you go to AK they have a beige colored one Safari Mickey on it... I need to get one of these. (hope they still have these)

Personally, I love the yellow Mickey Mouse ponchos. Do they still sell them there? How much do they cost now?
