June 1 7, 2008 - Mexican Riviera Cruise Can't Contain the Excitement Pre-trip Report **Updated 6/4** - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

What a great idea with the kids to give them a vague idea about what to expect with the lifeboat drill, etc -- and to have a one year count down party!!!
We are on the Aug '08 Mexican Riviera cruise, and I couldn't agree more about being excited we have THIS LONG to look forward to it! The planning/dreaming is at least half of the fun! I am soooo excited and feel so GRATEFUL we're able to do something that many others would only dream of.
I am so excited for you, you will have the best time !!! The anticipation and excitment is fun. Hope you have a wonderful time. Will be on the same cruise in August. Terri
And I thought I was bad getting excited and getting my DW irritated with my obsessions to planning What GREAT ideas!!! You do give new meaning to my motto: Planning is half the fun!!!

What:
June 1, 2008 Mexican Riviera Cruise on the Disney Magic, our first ever real vacation.
When I left off I was searching for my daughters' birth certificates so that we could apply for passports. Found three of them no problem. They were right where they were supposed to be. And right next to them where it was supposed to be, both copies of Chloe's certificate were missing. I searched everywhere! Three or four times! I finally gave in and sent off for a replacement copy.
The next day seeing as I wasn't preoccupied with finding the birth certificates, I finally got around to getting the loan papers out of the garage that Theo had been asking for. Of course, you know what happened. The birth certificates were right there misfiled with the loan papers. Who knows when or how they got there. It was such a perfect example of Murphy's law that I couldn't even be frustrated. It was too funny.
I thought it would be easier if the six of us when down and applied together, that way Theo could help corral and distract the kids. We couldn't go right away because he was waiting for a copy of his birth certificate. Three months later...it still hadn't come! Hearing reports of the months-long delays for receiving passports, I was getting a little crazy. It was the end of August and I was anxious to get it done before school started.
So I sucked it up and just took them in by myself one day. I had filled out the forms on-line, so the process was actually fairly quick and painless, albeit expensive! Then, of course, you know what happened...Mr. Murphy visited again the next day and his birth certificate arrived in the mail. Whatever! At least the applications were all in and the government could take six months to get us our passports if they needed to. Three weeks later I nearly fainted when I got the mail and there they were. I guess the government finally cleared up their backlog!
Not much happened cruise-wise for the next few months. For something to do, I got a copy of the Third Edition of the cruise passporter. And For Christmas I got each of us a Passholder Pouch for stocking stuffers. In January I started making stateroom door signs and Theo and I decided what activities and excursions we wanted. We also decided to splurge even more and get a limo to take us to the port.
Finally March rolled around. We paid off the cruise and waited for the 18th to register for activities and do the on-line check in.
Here's what we're doing:
Day 1 - Port of Los Angeles
Limo picks us up at our house at 9:00 am and drops us off in San Pedro by 11:00 am.
Day 2 - At Sea
Day 3 - Cabo San Lucas Dolphin Swim for Theo and the kids. This one was Theo's choice. I'm fine to just watch and take pictures, thank you very much!
Day 4 - Mazatlαn City Highlights & Mexican Mardi Gras Fiesta. We both thought it would be cool for the kids (and us) to see cliff divers and traditional Mexican dancers. Palo Dinner
I took the advice from my trusty passporter and scheduled for a port day. I chose Mazatlan because I believe that there is not one of the big shows playing this night.
Day 5 - Puerto Vallarta Outdoor Adventure. This one was my choice. It's just Theo and I, of course. I had originally planned for the canopy adventure, but this new one sounded even better. It includes a zip line, repelling and a hike through the Sierra Madre jungle.
Day 6 - At Sea
Day 7 - At Sea
For our last day Theo thought it would be nice to try a couple massage. I get a massage a couple times a year, but this will be his first. So he knows I scheduled one, but what he doesn't know is that I ordered the Couple's Choice massage in one of the Spa Villas! That's going to be a surprise.
So that's all folks! During the next two months I get to count the days and play with all those fun e-worksheets in the reading room.
