As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

My oldest was 16 then, and she loved the Holocaust Museum and the zoo.
I also recommend the cafeteria in the Museum of the American Indian for some unique native American food.
Thanks for all your suggestions. I'll definitely take on board what you suggest - and maybe try out the Ford Theatre (not something I'd have thought of).
Joan W - If you're in the area, do let me know. I'm always up for a PassPorter meet
Poohmaine - Thanks for directing me to your trip report. It's full of inspiration and tips (and an enjoyable read also).

Have a great time with your son. DC is such a great city to visit & so much to do. I went two years ago with my family, and we stayed at the Renaissance Mayflower as well. Beautiful hotel, the one restaurant in the hotel, it's off the lobby to the right hand side was very good. I have a few photos of my room if you would like to see them, I can upload them. One nice thing too about this hotel is the Metro is pretty close by too. Have a fantastic time.

My kids have visited DC regularly since toddlerhood as we have family in the area. The National Zoo has always been a favorite and continues to be.
Like Poohmaine's DD, all three of mine really appreciated the the Holocaust Museum once they entered their early teens.
Mine could spend weeks in the Smithsonian Museums. Although they have enjoyed the monuments, its the museums that are not to be missed, no matter how many times they've been.
There is so much to see and do, it is a daunting task. I work downtown on Pennsylvania Ave between the White House and the Capitol. What kind of food are you looking for?
There is a wonderful oven-fired pizza place across and down from the Spy Museum on 7th Street that I definitely recommend if you like more Italian-style pizza with the fresh mozzarella. It's sit-down.
Chinatown down by the MCI Center has been mentioned as well. I love the sandwiches at Au Bon Pain which are located all over downtown for a quick bite. There is also Cozi's, again all over town, and they have the BEST bread! I love their fresh salads as well. At Cozi's you can design your own or have one of thier creations.
Most of the museums have cafeterias that aren't too bad. Typical cafe food, nothing shining out for the most part.
I did forget, there is the usual suspects...ESPN Zone, Hard Rock Cafe...and the fave of all govt. workers...the hot dog stands on the corner! The Half-smokes are yummy, but definitely NOT low cal or cholesterol free!
If you want more traditional restaurants, there are plenty in many different price ranges. If you love steak, Capitol Grill is a good one, but high priced. I also love the Capitol Brewery. They have the best onion rings! It's a sit-down restaurant. They brew their own beer on the premises.
There are many different places and choices. It more depends on where you are going to be when. If you are going to be near Pennsylvania & Constitution and 9th & 10th, during the week, give me a shout. I work right there. I'm right between the Museum of Natural History and the FBI at the Department of Justice. I'd love to say hi!
Ooooh, Karen, I hope you will post your trip report! My DD (14yo, but will turn 15 in May) was born at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, and I really need to take her to visit. I have been worried that she might be too young to fully appreciate it until the last year or so. I will follow this thread with interest!

We live in VA and work in DC. The American History Museum is closed for the next year for repairs and updating. You will see some of their objects around at some of the other museums. ie. The ruby slippers form The Wizard of Oz were at the Air and Space museum. Also, there is a bus from the Air and Space museum to the new Annex Museum out in Dulles, the Udvar Hazy museum which houses the larger planes, space suttle and Enola Gay.
I also 2nd (3rd.... ) the Spy Museum! Get your tickets early on Ticket Master and Pick them up at will call.
Google the Cherry Blossom Festivel in DC. I know we are getting close to that time. There will be several parades and festivities at that time if it is during your visit.
My 12 yr old nephew really enjoyed the Korean, Lincoln, Jefferson and Roosevelt Monuments. We took an afternoon and just walked to them all.
If you do not have a Subway where you are from, a quick ride on the DC Metro is always fun for people. My mother has to have her ride everytime she comes for a visit.
You also have Ford's theater right next to Hard Rock Cafe. It is also about a block from the Spy Museum.
Have FUN! No matter what you end up doing the weather should be perfect for your trip.
We were just in DC this weekend. Although I don't have a teenager, just a 9 and a 6 year old, I do have a few bits of information. First, walk as much as you can before you come. Boy, did we walk a lot! If you visit the Spy Museum, consider Gordon Biersch, right across the street for lunch or dinner, especially if you enjoy beer. Also across form the Spy Museum is the National Portrait Gallery. We found it to be a really great surprise, although I am not sure how interesting you would find it. We found the Air and Space and Natural History Museums to be amazingly crowded, although we were there on a rainy Friday, and a Saturday. I am so not a crowd person, so we moved through things pretty quickly.
I'll put another vote in for the spy museum, it's very cool. You need to go right away in the morning and get tickets because they sell out early some days.
I think you also have to get tickets to go up to the top of the Washington Monument too.
The National Zoo is a great zoo and they have a baby panda (he's about 1 now).
Have a great time. I love going up to DC and walking around.
