Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Profound Statements
I thought of another one! And I say it alot when someone gets an attitude with me. "Who peed in your Cheerios?" This phrase was originally phrased a little differently when I first heard it. I use the G-rated version a lot.
Also, whenever DH or I does something stupid and gets hurt, the other says "You know whatcha did there, eh? You forgot to "fill-in-the-blank (let go of the ball, how to walk, turn on the light, etc.)." And the injured person always responds with "Thank you Captain Obvious. You're number one." Followed by a one-fingered salute of sorts.

Re: Profound Statements
Okay, when my brothers and I were younger, my mom would often say" What would you do if we won the lottery?". while discussing this one wet afternoon my youngest brother (7 at the time?) said we could travel the world w/ a million dollars(Hay! This was in early 80's after all). My middle brother says "Oh yah, what would we do about school?". Bill says "We would have a puberty with us. School can be anywhere!" Charles & I knew the meaning of this word and fell on the floor laughing & rolling around. Bill had no idea what was so funny and kept saying "What?". I had to explain it and boy was he embarrased!!! We still tease him about that and he's almost 30 now.
Another time in my DH was driving down the road and became flustered by the ineptitude of another driver. He hollered out "Get your Sabubadoo out of my way!!" i had to ask..."Did you mean Subaru?" When he turned to me you could see all over his face that he realise what he had said. we still laugh about that one.

Re: Profound Statements
When we were together about a year DH developed this short-lived but aggravating tendency to question anything I said by saying "You sure about that?" MMMRRRRRRAAAOOOOOOWWWW, he soon got the picture that the phrase definitely got my claws out, but now we say it to each other all the time in a mocking jerk manner. Re: Profound Statements
We have a bunch of these -- so many that I'm considering making a little scrapbook of them. Some of my favorites:
Whenever someone says "Who loves you, baby?" in my family, the appropriate response is "Telly Savalas?"
Because my younger brother did this (when he was all of 3 years old), whenever you hug two people at once, you are required to say "I love you both, my darlings!"
On a road trip to California one year, we stopped at a grocery store in Oklahoma, near the Texas border, and there we saw a very small woman lift a very large tub of groceries and carry it to the conveyor belt that led outside. Another worker called over to her, "Can you get it, Deb?" and she drawled back, "I can get it." Instant family saying.
One other one that might only be funny to us: Mom doesn't remember telling us this, but the rest of us (Dad and four kids) all swear that she told us Captain Kangaroo had died. This was years before he actually DID die. (She thinks she *meant* to tell us that Mr. Greenjeans had died, but somehow, we all heard that it was the good Captain.) So now, whenever someone in my family reports "news" that turns out to be not quite true, someone will undoubtedly ask if we heard that Captain Kangaroo died. We do the "who loves you, baby?" thing, too - sort of. When DH or I surprise each other with something thoughtful, we say "who loves you best, baby?" The answer is always "the cats".

Re: Profound Statements
My SIL Scott has us all saying "Well, meow meow meow" when we are talking. It's his version of "Well, La-Dee-Dah".
This type of whisk:
is known as a Jouncer-Up-And-Downer in my DH's family. When they were young, one of his sisters was helping in the kitchen and this is what she called it, and it stuck. Even my SIL's call it that now!
My husband was searching for Coco Krispies one day at the store, and in frustration he said..."I can't find the Crispity Crunchity Stop & Go's!" Then his face took on this look of startled disbelief as he started laughing at the goofy title that came outta his mouth. We call them this now when ever we are looking for cereal.
Grandbaby Tristan calls Mac & Cheese "Oakie Cheese" and that has stuck.
Durring our 2003 WDW/Cruise Extravaganza trip, we had great luck arriving just in time to jump on the WDW buses. We called it Bus Luck, and we all still use it to this day whenever anything goes in our favor.
Whenever we get a great parking spot we call it a "Bob Royal". Bob is a guy we know from church, and he has a knack for getting great parking spots...so, everyone who knows him uses this term for primo parking!

Re: Profound Statements
Thought of some more:
My DS calls grilled cheese sammys "slimy cheesies".
Brussel sprouts are "little pirate heads".
Coco Puffs are "kitty chow".
My aunt used to let my much younger cousins drink a lot of soda. They couldn't remember the names of Sprite, Orange Crush, etc. So they called all soda by the color of the bottle - "Red Coke, Green Coke, Orange Coke," etc.

Oh, Mr. GreenJeans was the best. He brought all the news of the day, and would just "hang" with the Capt. I liked him way better.
And, I thought of some that are probably only funny to my family:
My dad was told when I was 5 that he wouldn't live to see me get out of Kindergarten (if was March of my Kind. year!)
Now Dsis, dad or I will call one of the others and announce something along the lines of "I just checked the obits. Dad's not in them." and hang up.
My mom's brother is Bill. But, we usually don't know who Bill is unless the other person says "bush". Stems from the '70s when he had an afro (think of pale, freckly, red haired man with afro)
Anytime someone in my family does something kind of stupid, we always say "well, you just can't measure common sense"
And the best one - anytime you walk through an automatic door, you are supposed to wave your arms about, and very dramatically yell - "Tah-Da!" and then bow! and yes, I do it on occassion usually to embarrass my kids - Step-son started this when he was 4. Thought it really was him!

That's appropriate, somehow. And I'm pretty sure my whole family would be pleased to hear it. As my brother's college roommate said, "You Zilkas are odd, but you're comfortable in your oddities."
