Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: ooh!!! i just realized!! you guys will like this one!!! who here has been a visitor to NYC?
As someone born and raised in NYC and now in NJ, that probably doesn't qualify as an out-of-towner. But if you have a chance to get to NJ, there are some great views of NYC from across the Hudson River. Liberty State Park has a nice walking path along the river and is directly across from lower Manhattan near Ground Zero. There are also nice views at that point of New York Harbor, the Verrazano Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island. This is a great place to go to take wonderful photos of NYC from a short distance away. If you have a car, a bit further away in West Orange, NJ there is a park (Eagle Rock Reservation) that has panoramic views from atop a hill. This is about 15 miles from NYC and you would need a car to get there, but on a clear day, you can see from the George Washington Bridge to the north all the way out toward Long Island. There is also a beautiful, touching 9/11 memorial with the names of those who lost there lives inscribed on a wall facing toward the NYC skyline, as well as tributes to the firefighters and police officers who sacrificed their lives.

Re: ooh!!! i just realized!! you guys will like this one!!! who here has been a visitor to NYC?
I have been to NYC about 8 times in the past three years. In an ode to the WDW Top 7 here is my
Elbug10's Top 7 things to do while in NYC:
1. ESB and Skyride Simulator. Get there early and allow at least 2 hours; it takes quite awhile to get through security/tickets, etc. ESB website
2. Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island same as above; get there early b/c tickets to the Statue sell out quickly.
3. Circle Line boat rour around Manhattan, or Staten Island Ferry-great views and photo ops
4. Central Park. Go in by Tavern on the Green and walk to the Imagine pavillion; you don't have to go very far into the park, but you get a great feel for what it's about. Central Park website
5. Times Square
6. Broadway or off-Broadway show. Check www.broadwaybox.com for discounts. Feel free to p.m. me if you need recommendations; I've seen quite a few of the shows. He's from Chicago? Take him to see "Chicago"!
7. take him to an "only in NYC" restaurant like John's Pizza (pizza in a renovated church complete w/ stained glass and frescos) or Ellen's Stardust Diner (think 50's diner w/ singing waitstaff) Ellen's Stardust Diner
Look into getting a citypass for discounts. Here's a good general site for visiting NYC: NYC&Co.
and have fun!

You've gotten some great suggestions.
Foods you gotta have:
1. NY Cheesecake
2. NY pastrami sandwich
3. NY pizza
must-do places:
1. Skating in Rockefeller Center
2. Carriage ride through Central Park
3. Top of the Empire State Bldg.
4. Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall
5. Statue of Liberty
Hope this helps!

Re: ooh!!! i just realized!! you guys will like this one!!! who here has been a visitor to NYC?
I was there for the first time last Dec. I loved the Top of the Rock. The line wasn't as long as at Empire and I loved the view. I never made it to Empire as the time I was there the wait was really really long and I couldn't wait. But we did Top of the Rock twice at different times day and night and I just loved it! Very nice views! The airplanes are so close it was very cool!
I ate at Tavern on the Green but was a bit bummed as most of it was blocked off for a private party and I couldn't see the main area. A buggy ride after was alot of fun as well!
The zoo was fun. I loved walking around Central Park.
Also Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island was a big high light!
I did a bus tour which was fun as we went thru all of the major places and could get off and on. We also went thru several movie sets and watched some filming of Law and Order and that was fun as well.
Ground Zero was moving but hard to grasp since I hadn't seen it before. Still huge impact!
Times Sq. was awesome! A definate must at night. A play wasn't in the cards for me but I didn't miss it. I was so busy doing many other things.
We ate at Kennedy's an Irish pub and the food was amazing!!!!!! Also a great price.
Hope that helps. Have a great time!

question for you guys about buggy rides in Central Park..(and those bicycle cab things as well)
so, believe it or not, i've only done this once! And I wasn't that impressed...I'm thinking somthing like maybe we didn't start in the best place or something..
We got it the entrance right by The Plaza, can't remember how much it cost but I thought it was expensive for what it was..which was just going round a big loop basically and we didn't see anything very interesting...(Carriage rides in New Orleans I found much better..)
Anyway, has anyone gotten a buggy ride at a different starting place that is better? How much do these cost again? And who can tell me anything about those bicycle cab things? Are they fun? Are they worth it for the experience? Any comments?
You guys are giving great suggestions!! Thanks! ..what about Little Italy? Any good dessert recommendations?

Re: question for you guys about buggy rides in Central Park..(and those bicycle cab things as well)
We caught our buggy ride over by 7th ave. I personally felt that we got ripped off. When I asked earlier in the day they said it was 34.00 for a 1/2 hour and then when we got in the buggy and started off it was more like 40 for 15 minutes and it was a small loop and to do the bigger loop was almost 100 and it ended up at 5th ave. We did see some of the sites and it was fun while doing it but when we paid it left a bad taste as it wasn't what I was quoted.
But it was romantic and that is what I focus on.

Re: question for you guys about buggy rides in Central Park..(and those bicycle cab things as well)
The carriage rides aren't at all worth it They're a novelty thing, you don't actually get to explore
For desserts go to Serendipity for some frozen hot chocolate and celebrity sightings!

I actually had the BEST time ever on my carraige ride in January...it was great and the guy let me sit in front and "steer" the horse reins, or whatever you do with them. It was so cool.

Re: Italian desserts and bicycle cab thingys...
The bikes are OK. Again you don't ge to stop and see much and you only go a short distance. Also, only two people can fit comfortable With only three days I would just walk around and take it all in, and stop at the biggest sites
You actually don't even need to go to Little Italy for dessert, there are a ton of great Italian restaurants in midtown that have the BEST food and are right in the middle of everything!

Re: Italian desserts and bicycle cab thingys...
yes, but I want to show him Little Italy specifically..I know lots of Italian restaurants in midtown and uptown, but dont know the neighorhood of Little Italy at all...so am looking for something specific down there..
How much do the bikes cost? Are they expensive? If I'm having dinner on the upper east side, do they go there? Or do they only stay around midtown mostly?
If anyone knows, I'd appreciate all and any info! So far you guys haven't let me down!! So Thanks bunches!!

Re: Italian desserts and bicycle cab thingys...
Souns good, Little Italy is a nice area.
Pedicab rides start at $30 for around ten blocks. Every block after that was an addtional price. That was the cost when we went three years ago, so prices may have gone up.
