Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: \"Faking\" birthdays?

We went 2 weeks after my dd's 10th birthday last summer and we didn't celebrate her birthday since it was already over. In 2008 we are trying to be down on her actual birthday so we can celebrate it. We will be celebrating my 40th in April 2007 since we will be down on my actual birthday (Easter Sunday 2007)

Re: \"Faking\" birthdays?

I've been on my actual birthday and it was truly magical. That said, this November will be my 40th and we're planning a Grand Gathering around it. But, my family can't travel in mid-November, so we're postponing it to mid-December. Will it be like I'm there on my birthday? No... but it will still be a blast and I'm totally into having fun at WDW.

The CMs won't care whether it's your real birthday or a late/early birthday... they just want you to have fun!

Don't you have to show id to get the birthday button at City Hall? I don't know - I'm never there for my birthday!

Re: \"Faking\" birthdays?

no. no proof is ever required. as others have posted, it's not discouraged to have a disney birthday either.

going back to the OP's question, my only concern would be having the children understand the situation. it could be potentially very confusing

Re: \"Faking\" birthdays?

I'd think about it this way. What message would you be sending your kids by LYING about the birthday!!!!

Re: \"Faking\" birthdays?

I think faking a birthday is dishonest, and it will teach your child that lying, and in this case lying to get some special attention, is an okay thing to do. Is that what you really want them to learn?

Re: \"Faking\" birthdays?

We've been thinking about doing this on our June trip next year. With my 4 dd's, only 1 has a birthday in the summer when school is out. The older 2 are now in upper middle school or high school and we feel it's too important to take them out, even for the mouse! (Did I just say that?!) So what we've decided is to "celebrate" each dd's bday one day while we're there by letting them pick dinner that night. Haven't thought about whether or not to get them a button, but at least they'd have 1 special day next trip where they can have their own day! Not faking their bday, but "celebrating it" on a certain day during out vacation for them! Ruth

Re: \"Faking\" birthdays?

moral ethics have nothing to do with any of this. if you don't think it's right to do it, then please don't. otherwise, it's allowed at the resorts. as long as it doesn't confuse/scar your children, there's nothing wrong with doing it.

george clooney does it all the time. how can it be wrong?

When I was there in Jan. it was during my b-day and I had a shirt made that said "Having a Tiggerific Birthday at Walt Disney World "(front) and "Today's My Birthday" (back). You could do something like this for yourself and then have shirts made for them that say "Today is mommy's birthday" for your kids and "I'm with the birthday girl" for your DH.

I am so glad you posted this. I usually hate the idea of celebrating my birthday in public. This April we were at a restaurant for my birthday while we were in Massachusetts and I told my dd not to mention to the waiter that it was my birthday because I didn't want anyone singing. But there is something about celebrating my 40th birthday at WDW and I wanted to make up tshirts for her and I but thought I might look stupid. Now that I know others have done it I will definately do it. I had planned to note it on all my adr's and my ressie for the resort. I will also try to find the place where you get the birthday pins. I know we are going to Epcot on my actual birthday does anyone know where to get a birthday pin in Epcot?????

Re: \"Faking\" birthdays?

guest relations will have them.

Epcot, MK, DAK and DTD all have their own buttons. MGM uses MK's.

collect them all.

Re: \"Faking\" birthdays?

I think the suggestion of taking a different kid out for dinner and "celebrating" their birthday (even though it's not an actual birthday) is awesome. Very nice, family!

I personally don't care for the other thing. I've been there 3 days before my birthday and another time it was 5 days after my daughter's birthday. I felt like wearing a button that said "It's my Birthday!" wasn't right, cuz it WASN'T our bday, and besides... I think the ppl who really ARE having a bday that day deserve the attention. We got our bday fun on our actual day. The day is what's special, imo. Not where you are.

Re: \"Faking\" birthdays?

We always say we are celebrating a birthday. Celebrating a birthday means it does not have to be the exact day. We often celebrate a day different than our real birthdays at home. I always let my children select one day to celebrate their birthdays. When I go in August I'm celebrating my birthday for the whole trip because one, it is close to my birthday and two, I've never celebrated in all our trips to Disney. I plan to have a real celebration!

Re: \"Faking\" birthdays?

We "fake" our anniversary celebrations in a sense that we have never actually been at Disney on the actual day of our anniversary. That doesn't stop us from wearing the bride and groom ears for our trips. Sure our anniversary isn't until June, but on our trip in May we will be celebrating just the same. If you think it will confuse your kids why don't you try doing something like an unbirthday party. On our last trip there was a family all wearing shirts...one of them was celebrating his birthday and wore a shirt that said "40th birthday" and the whole rest of the family had shirts on that said "### (whatever number) unbirthday!" I thought it was a cute and super clever idea!

Re: \"Faking\" birthdays?

I did a birthday transfer (ha ha) we have gone 3 times twice on my birthday once my husbands... the 1st time I wore the pin myself I didn;t realize the big deal they would make so the next year we were back on my birthday and my daughter (she was 5 wore the pin on my birthday when people asked she said it was moms birthday but I was sharing it with her) Last trip DH gave his birthday to the younger daughter she was 6 this time. since we hit DH's birthday this trip we will probably give Ryan his birthday pin ... although Ryan is too young to know when his birthday is so he may not care

Re: \"Faking\" birthdays?

We have celebrated our birthdays while at WDW, it was a little sooner than the kids actual BD's because their actual days are right at the beginning of the school year, and I work at a school so there is no way to actually be there on THE day. We are celebrating, one day for one, and another day for the other. This year since I will be the same age as DL, you bet I am celebrating. WDW a little before the actual day, DL a little after! I have a goal of 50 characters to sign a card, that will be for all of our BD's this year. S
