Alleviating or Aggravating August??? - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Today (8/2) not too bad. After a lazy start to our day, we decided to tackle cleaning out and organizing our garage. After cleaning and sorting most of it, we decided that we needed another set of shelves and a new hose rack. While cleaning we also found an unused box of electrical wire left from the contractor who did our basement, so I returned the wire ($43.55 - wow) for store credit at home depot - then purchased the shelf and a winding hose wall unit - used the store credit and spent another $36. I also purchased a water for $2.35 (yikes).
Not a bad day for money spent and I got my garage cleaned.
Last month was aggravating so I am really shooting for an alleviating August.
8/1 We had a Yard Sale and made $250.00, spent $0!!!
8/2 $60.00 at the Farmers Market and $21.50 for breakfast after
8/3 $0
$0 of "my" money spent over the weekend. DH bought Chinese food Saturday evening, but it lasted through Sunday night, so we didn't have to eat out after church yesterday. I have set meat out to thaw for supper tonight so I won't be tempted to go to Sonic!
I picked up my paycheck for the 4 mornings I worked in July. It was such a small check that I wasn't able to put aside any of it for trip savings. After my tithe, the rest of it went to reimburse DH for things I've been charging over the summer. (So far I've caught up to my Father's Day purschases in June.)
Today was unexpectedly expensive. I took my summer workers out to lunch (their last days are approaching) - $28 for the four of us. $46 for groceries and stuff at WalMart and $2 on ice cream.
Aggravating August is a great name!
This week alone I've got to pay for my school books, Lauren and Kathryn need school clothes, and shoes, and we have my insurance to pay for, plus the increase in the auto insurance now that we have a teen driver!
I'll probably spend about $1200 tomorrow alone!!
Add that to the trip to WDW the girls and I are taking in a week (although older DD is paying for the room) - and it's going to be a very expensive month!
I need to save again if I am ever going to go to Disney. The past few months have been very rough. My accounts are about empty. But the good news is.............well ok there aen't much. But anyway I will try to save.
Went out with Dsis`s family yesterday and bought the ice creams - $10. DH and I shared fish and chips for dinner another $10.
Tonight we were going to go out with the visiting family to a fancy restaurant but DH can`t face the cost - probably $120. Probably a wise decision so I`ll cancel.
Yesterday I went to the grocery (Wal-mart) and spent $109.82. Not bad considering that I bought razor blades for dh (those thing are so expensive!), dog food, shampoo and body wash.
I also went to Barnes and Noble .....I had to! I have read every book in the house - some of them multiple times! So, I bought two books. I spent $28.00.
Today is going to be a $0 day!! Not because I don't have stuff to buy - but it's storming like you wouldn't believe! I'm waiting until tomorrow to go out shopping. Saving due to rain - now that's a concept!

Yesterday (8/3) was our last day of vacation (a holiday Mon here in Ont), so we took the girls to African Lion Safari. We stopped for coffee and Tim Bits on the way there - $6. We had a voucher for 2 free adult tickets, so we only had to pay for the girls - $41.70. We brought a picnic lunch from home, so we saved money there. We did buy ice cream - they were huge - so I asked for the girls if I could get a single, but in 2 cones and they said SURE! So - only $3.69. I am learning to always ask, you never know!!. DH and I shared a funnel cake, my 1 for the summer, and he also ordered a deep fried Mars bar (Yuck) - I think he paid about $13. The girls found a penny press, and since we did them at WDW, they now know what they are, so they each wanted 1 - $2.00. And they wanted a souvenir, so since they had the metal (eco friendly) water bottles which I still need for their school supplies, I let them pick one out each - $30. We were late leaving, so had to pick up dinner on the way home - $37. It's a good thing we are back to work, it's so much cheaper.
This morning 8/4 I needed a coffee, but didn't want anything hot, so I bought an iced coffee - $2.72, but I got my lunch packed and we are heading straight home tonight, so that should be it.
My dad paid dh yesterday for his help over the weekend, putting in ceilings in a house remodel project. That helped! Plus dh is going to help him again this weekend so that will be a little extra money. He stopped for supper on his way back home, but it was fast food and just for himself - me and ds ate at home.
Realized this morning that I'm overdue for an oil change in the car, plus we got our notice in the mail today that it's time for a new tag for the truck - I always forget it's due in August.
