Forums Closed
|
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: June 11-13, 2005 Thank You Trip / Day One done - updated 8/1/05
After the parade, we headed across to Disneyland!
Not many people were making the trek with us, so we paused to take a picture:
Outside DL at night
Sorry so blurry! I must have been shaking with excitement to get into DL - or was it exhaustion from this huge day that started on a cruise ship?
We headed in to Main Street, and couldn't believe the crowds! This was before we understood the fireworks glory that we were about to behold!
We stood on the left side of Main Street, and if I had any advice to offer, it would be to go to the right side. We could only go a few feet up Main Street, where it was wall to wall people! We could hear everything, but trees blocked most of the fireworks above the castle. Not to worry - the narration, music and fireworks all around us were incredible! The castle was changing colors and Tink flew!
I'm so happy we were able to witness it!
Now comes the bad part - this mass of humanity turned toward us to leave! It was like my worst nightmare come true - I hate crowds! We started walking down the middle of the street, but heard some CMs instructing people walking into the park to head for the right sidewalk. After that, it was painfully slow, but at least we weren't salmon going upstream (remember, I'm from Seattle). We wanted to head into Fantasyland, since we were sure all the little munchkins would be fast asleep by now, right? Wrong! It was wall to wall strollers - mayhem! Saturday night in June in DL...oh, well. Max and Cami jumped in line at the Alice in Wonderland Tea Cups, while I found Marlene somewhere to sit and looked for something to drink. We were hot and thirsty after fighting our way into Fantasyland! And I looked, and I looked. Meanwhile, Max and Cami were having a spin.
Pure joy!
I was still walking around looking for something to drink - why would they take all the carts away, and close the restaurants with everyone still in the park?
Finally, I found a churro cart that sold drinks! Hallelujah!
We sat down by Dumbo and tried to decide whether it was worth waiting for another ride with everything so crowded. We knew we would be back early the next morning, so why not just go back to the hotel and sleep? Well, Cami really wanted to go on one more ride, so I pulled out a memory from long ago, and suggested IASW. The HIGH capacity ride, with the most annoying theme song! We wandered that way, and saw the wait was only about 10 minutes!
Had enough, Cami?
Happiest Cruise? Naw, that was the Magic sailing out of LA on 6/4/05!
By this time, I'm sleepwalking, but we make it back to the hotel and snuggle into bed, knowing that tomorrow will see us at Disneyland bright and early!
Goodnight! Sleep tight!

Thank You Trip
June 12, 2005
Sunday
Good morning!
I'm going to Disneyland!!!
We woke up bright and early - about 7am. We hurried and got ready and walked to the breakfast room for our complimentary breakfast. It was in a delightful room with lots of seats. Plenty of muffins, fruit, cereal, juice, water and coffee.
Carousel Inn & Suites exceeded our expectations!
Did I mention how much I loved having our own room???
By 8 or so, we were walking across the street to DL!
There was a short line for security, hint: go to the left!
Then, a VERY short line throught the turnstiles, and we were walking down Main Street!
What a way to wake up!
We headed over to Town Hall to get birthday buttons for our two June birthday girls!
Marlene was turning 69 and Cami was turning 7!
We walked briskly toward the castle and snapped a pic:
Beautiful day!
I should have stopped and had someone take a pic of all of us, but I was in a hurry! We had to get some rides in Fantasyland done before it turned into a zoo!
Dumbo!
Of course, Dumbo is first, because it's the SLOWEST loading ride of all time! This is a special ride because Marlene loves elephants and we rode it in WDW in 2000!
Max and I let the little kids go instead of going together, so we wandered around taking pictures and talking about what we wanted to accomplish.
After their turn on Dumbo, we took some pictures with the Golden ride vehicles.
Doesn't she look wonderful for 69? I can't believe how willing she was to try anything!
Max was up for passing by Mr. Toad's Wild Ride and going straight to Peter Pan, but I really wanted to do it. So, with some muttering that Peter Pan's line was just going to get longer, he agreed.
Don't I look pleased?
More later!

My parents swear by Carousel Inn & Suites, they do!!! I was really looking forward to staying there, but by the time they got around to making ressies for our trip , they were booked. So we had to settle on the Park Vue Inn.
GREAT update!!! I love Mr. Toad . . . I have a great thought about the ride that I plan on putting in the next installment of my report You'll have to pop in to read it!
More please!!!

Re: June 11-13, 2005 Thank You Trip / Day Two- updated 8/5/05
Thank You Trip
June 12, 2005
Sunday, Part Two
Peter Pan's line was about 20 minutes, then we were soaring above London:
Walking by Snow White's Scary Adventures, we saw Snow White herself!
I've always wondered why they don't change the name to the Wicked Witch's Scary Dungeon! It's such an incomplete story!
I had read so much about the new Snow White musical, I knew we couldn't miss it, but we wanted to hit more rides while the lines were small, so we jumped on the train to New Orleans Square. From there, we headed for Winnie the Pooh in Critter Country.
We enjoyed seeing the photo mosaics throughout the park, but the Winnie the Pooh hanging from his ballon was my favorite!
We were Park Commandoes for a little while, and rushed over to the Haunted Mansion, where the wait was just about 5 minutes. Cami was freaked by the stretching room, especially the ending!!!
I rode with her, and she spent the whole time telling me she didn't like it, and I told her it was just funny - but there were more disturbing scenes than I remembered!
We walked a short ways to Pirates, and got on a boat within a few minutes! Yay!
We stopped to snap a picture:
Then, headed toward Indiana Jones, where the wait was a bit longer - about 25 minutes. Marlene and Cami both rode, and we got to take the cool elevator so she didn't have to do the stairs!
We were all a tad hungry, so we went to Bengal Barbecue and basically got one of everything to share! It was hard finding seating - people are like vultures when seating is short!
After our delicious snack, we headed back to the train station.
