As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We love the freedom of going from one place to another the park hopper gives you. Besides everything everyone already mentioned, another reason we get park hoppers is to make sure we can see Fantasmic. If it's windy or rainy on your DHS day, it may not be shown. (We have to see this everytime we go, we absolutely love this show.) So without the park hopper, we would have to waste an entire day's ticket on a second visit to DHS just to see it. Not worth it in my opinion, and I'd be very disappointed if I didn't get to see Fantasmic.
I overheard a cm explain it this way to a guest once: If you have only 2-4 day tickets, it's probably not worth it. But if you have 5 or more day tickets, it's a one-time base fee and it would give you a lot of flexibility for touring and dining options.
When we first started going to WDW, we had one-day, one-park tickets. It's fun to pull them out and look at them. Then we started park-hoppers for flexibility. Same reason as others have said - Epcot wasn't our Dkids favorite when they were younger, but I loved to see the Tapestry of Nations and the Tapestry of Dreams - so the park hoppers helped to keep me and them happy. Now we have APs and we park hop too much. It's not unusual to hit all 4 parks in a day.
As others have said, changing parks for EMH is a good idea. There are times when the EMH park is more crowded during the day and it would give you the option of trying a different park. Will you separate ever from your in-laws or want to run away? Having park-hoppers would allow them to tour on their own (like Epcot for a nice dinner) while your family does something for the kids.
It sounds like you really want the park-hoppers so I hope you can work this out!

We always buy park hoppers if we don't have annual passes because we usually end our day with dinner at Epcot, regardless of which part we do during the day.
My biggest reason for getting park hoppers is pretty simple. If we don't have enough time to finish all of the attractions in a park, or if a ride is closed down on a particular day, or if we want to ride something again, or if we decide we really need the _____ we saw in that store. . . no problem! We can run over and take care of it. No pressure, no worries!
if we decide we really need the _____ we saw in that store. . . no problem
I'm guilty of doing this. There are just some things you'll find in one store but not another and sometimes you do have to go to a different park for just that one item.

I'm new here and was just wondering if I have a 5 day MYW ticket can I add a park hopper to one day only or do I have to add it to all 5 days?! I was just wondering because MK looks huge that it might be nice to break it up a bit! I also will be traveling with a 2 year old who takes a nap religiously around noon, so hopefullyit won't be that much of a hassle getting back to the room for some down/nap time!

Hi and Welcome to the boards.
And to answer your question, yes the park hopper gets added to every day, not just one, but it's a fixed price for the tickets. I think for 5 days and up, it's an additonal 45 per ticket.
Never mind my previous post.....all this info is really getting to me! It's just a flat fee to add the park hopper! Wow! now I have another decision to make!

We discovered "Length of stay" passes when we visited for our Honeymoon in 1998 and discovered something wonderful - less stress! By having a pass that allowed to go where we wanted, when we wanted, we were comfortable hitting a park in the morning, visiting the different resorts and catching lunch somewhere and then hitting a ride or two at 2 or 3 other parks that afternoon/evening, without feeling guilty about not staying all day in one park.
Now? I wouldn't consider doing it without a hopper (that includes DL, as well). And, while all the other reasons are great and ones I would list, let me add something I haven't seen yet.
We always travel with our in-laws (to Disney, that is, not all our vacations - though it sometimes seems like it!). Having hoppers allows us to split up, do other things and maybe meet up later. So, my in-laws may take the kids into a kid-friendly place while DH and I catch some bigger rides. Or if the kids get fussy, we could leave and the in-laws could still catch the show they wanted to see and meet us wherever we ended up with the kids. We were able to make ADRs without worrying which park we'd be in. The in-laws could take the kids at the end of the night, since they were all getting tired, allowing DH and I to go catch "__________" at a different park.
I would say that it is more important to hop with kids than without. That way, you don't feel the need to spend all day at the one park you were able to go to on that expensive ticket, trying to get your money's worth (which is what we always felt like with regular tickets). As adults, it's easier to think, "well, this is the choice we made and now we'll see it through." Kids aren't going to understand that, and if something happens that they'll want to leave one park, you still have the option to go to another park to distract them.
I wont be adding parkhopper to my up coming trip. I bought it for our last trip and didn't use it. We didn't even see everything there was to see in each park spending one whole day there. Then by the end of each day we were to tired to hop to another park.
We've always park hopped as I like the freedom to change my mind and go somewhere else if the mood strikes me. We often go in the AM, take a break, and then go to another park in the evening.
We love park hopping as well - it allows you to go somewhere early in the day, go back to the resort and have a break and then head to another park later on. I say go for it.
