"Seeking the Sun" January 2-9, 2013 Trip Report - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Hope the ctowds lessened as the trip went on. I wish someone could explain to me why all the good food places are outside of security in the airports?!?!? Looking forward to more.
Sounds like a great day, cannot wait to read more!
Thank you! More coming as soon as the photopass CD arrives!

The bus situation was not good all week. I don't think we waited less than 15 minutes for a bus the whole vacation. Donnie has sworn off Disney buses and we will be driving a car from now on! LOL!

The crowds were a lot higher than I anticipated for the entire trip. Although we had a couple of days with lower levels, it was still more than our last January trip. Most of the visitors did not speak English, however. There were a ton of BTG! As for airports, I have no idea why they don't move more places inside of security to eat!

Sounds like fun. I would love to see more photos of the room you had (if you have some). I love the people mover, alas my family groins everytime we ride it, but they support me and ride it at least once. One time when my dd was about 2, she was so cranky I took her on the ride and it was really slow season. Well of corse she feel asleep when the cast member saw that she told me I could stay on and ride it until I felt like getting off. Lets just say that I think I know every turn by heart now. I probably stayed on it about 7-10 times.

Unfortunately I don't have any more pictures of just the room. It was plenty big enough for us and the two twin beds in the living room worked out perfectly for us, but we were not fans of the resort in general. Here is a link to more pictures of the suites. Our room looked identical to these pictures. New Family Suites at All Star Music FAQ thread Update Page 11 New photos I took Sept. - The DIS Discussion Forums - DISboards.com
Also, you have to love the People Mover. It is a classic ride for us, that we all love and make a point of starting and ending each vacation on that ride!
Hollywood Studios Jan 3, 2013 Part 1:
We woke up bright and early, and after a quick breakfast in the room, we were at the bus stop by 8:10.
Our plan for the day was to go to Hollywood Studios and meet some friends that live in Tampa for dinner. I think we waited about 15 minutes for a bus and arrived to a relatively long line at the gates of Hollywood Studios around 8:45. They had already started allowing people in, so we were tried to hurry through security and the turnstiles. After getting through, the crowds were not that heavy, just bottled up at the entrance.
Trey and I headed straight for sign-ups at the Sound Stage for Jedi Training, while Donnie took the girls to Toy Story Mania for fastpasses and quick ride if the line was not too long. Trey was assigned to the 1:20 training and we headed to the Hat to meet up with Donnie. While waiting, Trey and I took some pictures.
Donnie had gotten fastpasses for TSM valid at 12:10, but the stand by line was already at 40 minutes, so after freshening Teagan’s diaper, he stopped to visit with Goofy until we finished with Jedi sign-ups. It was Teagan’s first character meet, and according to Donnie, she loved him!
We found them right after they finished and got in line to see Chip n Dale. They were great with the kids!
Next up was our first ride! Tower of Terror. Neither, Kennedy or I had ever ridden this because she was too short our last visit and I was pregnant, so it was a first for us. Trey had loved it the last time, but my afraid of heights husband did not. So he stayed with Teagan while I took the older two. When we got to the line entrance, Kennedy just about backed out because she could hear the screams coming from the riders. After some talking to, and encouragement she decided to give it a try.
I think the wait time was listed at 25 minutes, but we were on the elevator in about 10 minutes. As soon as we were seated and the car started moving, Kennedy started crying and screaming that she wanted to get off. BY that time it was too late, and all I could do was try to comfort her. The girls behind us were also trying to calm her down, but she was not having it! She screamed bloody murder right up until the end. Looking back, it was kind of comical, but Kennedy will never ride that again, I am sure of it! I thought it was OK, but with Kennedy’s wails it was hard to enjoy.
After that we met up with Donnie and Teagan and headed over the Animation Academy to see if we could get into a drawing class. We just missed a class and the next one was not to start until 11:00, but we had lunch reservations at Sci-Fi for 11:00, so instead we walked around the building and got in line to see Sorcerer Mickey. Teagan was so excited for this and did not want to wait in line, she kept trying to run up to him. When it was finally our turn, she sprinted towards him yelling “Mimme.” He took extra time with us and really spent a lot of time giving hugs and kisses to Teagan. It was the perfect first meet with Mickey!
Wreck It Ralph was also there, but the line was really long for him and we needed to get to our reservation. So we walked around looking at the animation art for a little longer and then headed to Sci-Fi.
After a nature stop we went to check in for lunch. When I checked in, around 11:00, the hostess stated our reservation was not until 11:30. I had a printed confirmation that stated 11:00, so I am not sure why the discrepancy. She stated they would seat us a soon as possible, but we ended up waiting at least 15 minutes. We were seated in a car, which was difficult for Teagan, because she really needed a high chair, but could only use a booster seat. If you cannot strap her into her seat, she will not sit still, so she ended up climbing all over us for the entire meal. We had fastpasses for TSM that we needed to use before Trey’s Jedi Training at 1:20 (he had to be there by 1:00) so we were not interested in a leisurely meal, but that is what we ended up getting. For dessert we chose to have fruit cups to go to snack on later, and while I waited for those and to pay our bill Donnie took Trey and Teagan to RNRC to get fastpasses. I must have waited 20 minutes to get the bill back. We were on the dinning plan, and we paid out of pocket for a few meals. We noticed that the bill was taken care of much faster when paying out of pocket.
