OKW is just ok. Since it is so huge, you really have to request a room close to the main building to be anywhere near the buses, pool, restaurants, gift shop, etc. The place is so big that you have to take a resort bus just to get to the main area. Waiting for buses all day is not my idea of fun and a huge waste of time.
When we checked in, it was the least busy time of the entire year (week after labor day) and the place was deserted. Even so, they still gave us the farthest building from the main building with a horrible view of a loud highway. You'd think that since it is deserted, they would opt to put us closer with a better view. After one night so far away, we reqested to be transferred to a closer building. Packing up and moving in the middle of a vacation is no fun!
The place is pretty the way all of Florida is pretty, but it's not especially beautiful. Perhaps I am just spoiled from staying at the Polynesian and Wilderness Lodge, but I just would not recommend OKW.

We stayed here in January of 2008. Compared to other resorts we weren't thrilled with the service compared to other resorts and there was mold in one of our rooms. The atmosphere was nice and the CM's in the rec hall were great.

My niece and I stayed at OKW for 5 nights in June of 2008.
I was very pleasantly surprised by this resort.
I loved the theme of the resort. It was so relaxing!
We stayed in a studio, ground level room. We loved it!
The room was so spacious and open! The bathroom is exceptionally large!
The resort is very large and spread out. If you have a room that is not close to the main area, it is quite a distance to walk.
We never waited longer than 15 minutes for a bus.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at OKW.

We love getting away from the hustle and bustle of the parks and really find OKW relaxing. We wouldn't mind a bit more by way of food options but the spaciousness of the villas can't be beat. The staff is first rate; we got a Photo,card, and ballons for our anniversary.

A free desert came our way when wandering down by the dock area - I must have looked upset (I'd just been notified my job would be eliminated) a castmember stopped us to see what was up, hubby explained the bad news, the castmember asked us to wait a minute and came back out with a slice of Key lime cake Only at Disney does stuff like that happen.

We find the Key West themeing to be relaxing and certainly alot of the beaches in NC have similiar looks. Yep - the place is spreadout. And yep you do have to allow a bit more time for buses. That said I walked from HH area to Turtle Pond building #42 in about 6 minutes at a fairly leisurely pace.... after waiting 15 minutes for a bus.

That said, if you like to do the parks commando style and prefer to spend very little time at the resort- this one probably won't suit you. If you prefer a laid back style, and big rooms - you'll probably like it here

We love to relax at OKW it is much easier if you have rented a car,unless you are near the hospitality house. More food options would be nice. Even though we do like eating at Olivia's

When we went with our neighbors(3dogknight) they rented a van so we just went to the other resorts to pick up breakfast

Never a long wait for buses,which is nice

We usually plan on just staying at the resort 2-3 days out of our trip just to hang at the pool and relax and do the kids activity's

Stayed at OKW in a 1 bedroom villa for the first time Dec. 2010.

We had 2 adults, DD17, DD20, DD3.

Villa was a good size for us.

Pros: There is a tropical theme to the resort.
CM were very friendly.
We had a second story room overlooking the golf course.
We were close to a bus stop.
Washer and dryer in room

Cons
Sometimes had to wait a long time for bus stop.
Access to the bathroom was through the master bath.
No elevators in buildings (that we saw)

DD said she didn't feel the magic at OKW. Unable to find very many hidden Mickeys in decor.

We will most likely stay at OKW again, but will have a car next time. We will also stay at a time when we can relax and enjoy the room.

We stayed at the property as opposed to the Saratoga Springs resort. We toured Saratoga Springs looking at the timeshare so we knew what it was like and chose this property to be "closer" to the actions. All in all great place for the price as we came home at lunch and dinner for eating and naps - worked out great as away to relieve long summer days and cost of eating at parks. Bad news was location of pools and wait time for buses. Will be returning with additional child (now aged 3 and first time at parks) and will stay at Saratoga Springs to try a new property.

This was our second stay at Old Key West. We were there Aug 24-31, 2011. The best thing about the resort is the size of the room. It is really spacious compared to other 1BR's. There is lots of storage space and a large kitchen.

I didn't like that the only port for the Internet was in the LR corner. There was no desk in the room. The other disappointing thing was only one toilet. I missed the second bathroom especially with 6 people. It made getting ready in the morning a little slower.

The worst part of this resort is the counter service. The food is mediocre at best and the resort is so spread out, its difficult to make use of the refillable mug unless you are close to the main pool. I also didn't like eating outside as they don't have indoor seating for counter service.

We also noted a lot of bugs!!! I got bit so many times by ants, that I developed hives and the mosquitos were horrible. I imagine it had something to do with the storm moving up the coase as this was the first time in 6 years we had even seen a mosquito.

We had a great vacation, but I think we'll give this resort a pass in the future.
