As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Value resort warning: Beware of Cheerleaders
We always have stayed at AS Music during the same week that the Pop Warner and cheerleader groups are there. The biggest problem was the piggy adults who smoked in and in front of No Smoking rooms, threw their beer cans and butts in the bushes and talked loudly outside of rooms instead of visiting inside--maybe because they couldn't stand to not smoke for a few minutes. The kids were mostly okay, but then I am a Youth Services librarian so maybe I'm just used to them. I was elbowed out of the way once by a group of line-jumping cheer girls at the opening at MGM, but I figured it was excitment, and it has happened to me at places outside of WDW. We tend to drive to most parks so I cannot speak about the busses, but I would avoid the food court during prime breakfast hours and the pool late unless you like crowds. But we really haven't had anything that would keep us away from ASM just because of the kids.

Re: Value resort warning: Beware of Cheerleaders
If you happen to stay at any resort when there is a group of boisterous kids in residence, it is best to ask for an upper floor room facing away from any courtyards or pools if you want peace and quiet (this is actually what I ask for anyway ).

Re: Value resort warning: Beware of Cheerleaders
I am going to WDW in May and Sep/Oct - considered seriously a value resort but decided against it for these exact reasons, I get frequent migraines and if I'm back at the hotel to rest and medicate, I certainly didn't want to battle that kind of noise! I love PORFQ and POR for this very reason, it has to be the quietest resorts on property!

Re: Value resort warning: Beware of Cheerleaders
I just wanted to add to this discussion, as I JUST got back from ASM with our marching band! I would like to say that it matters A LOT if there is adult supervison! We all took turns all night, walking our halls. We discussed appropriate and considerate behavoir BEFORE we took 90 kids down there! We were respectful to folks on the buses, and if an adult caught a student being rude, pushing, or causing problems, they were whisked away to spend the rest of the day "stuck" with an adult chaperoen! (The ULTIMATE horror!!) I saw a TON of students NOT supervised, and I think Disney should address that. I just wanted to add that not ALL groups are horrid, and ultimately, the adults responsible for the kids need to step up and take the flack! (We averaged about 2 hours of sleep a day, but we knew what we were getting into before we left. THis was NOT a pleasure trip, we were working!) Maybe they should fine the groups that casue all this trouble!

Re: Value resort warning: Beware of Cheerleaders
Just wanted to say, good on you for taking care of your kids so well. I used to teach and only chaperoned a trip like that once (just a few kids to a small drama festival), and it is a LOT of work to do it well. It would be great if all groups and kids were held responsible, I agree. Personally I would rather be in a quieter spot when I vacation with my young children, but I know when they are older I will kiss the feet of people like you who give our kids these valuable--and fun--experiences.
Editing to add...that one trip, it was more protecting the kids from the adults than the other way around. We shared our hotel with a ladies' (and I use the term lightly) bowling team, who knew there were young teens there, and persisted in their drunken behaviour, including MOONING my kids. I was the one calling the front desk looking for order! Sometimes it's not the kids who need to mind their p's and q's!

Re: Value resort warning: Beware of Cheerleaders
Our family was at WDW this past Dec, during Pop Warner time. Luckily there we no groups at WL, but we did encounter MANY unsupervised groups of cheerleaders in the park who were quite obnoxious and extremely rude. The little football player groups always seemed to have enough supervision. The cheerleaders were loud, pushy and running all over the place. It made for an unenjoyable experience more than once.
I am an elementary teacher and quite tolerant of noise, silliness, excitement, etc. But these girls were way out of bound and usually seen with little or no supervion.
I couldn't imagine staying at a resort with loud obnoxious children! I would go totally crazy.
We are planning on staying in a value in August, and I'll be sure to ask if there are any large groups staying there.

Re: Value resort warning: Beware of Cheerleaders
I agree that you cannot catagorize all these groups as horrid, but what IS horrid to me is the lack of supervision I witnessed in the parks this past December (cheerleaders and football players). If parents of these kids could have seen the goings-on! All I kept saying to DH was, "Where are the chaperones?"; and DH insists he will NEVER allow any of our kids to go on such a trip, EVER! As a WDW guest, I was merely annoyed at the loud, boisterous, sometimes rude behavior. As a parent, I was concerned for the safety of any teenager so poorly supervised.
We were lucky in that we stayed at a DVC resort. My sister and her family were at ASMu and could not get a decent night's sleep: they were a wreck! DBIL swore (I mean REALLY swore!) that he would never stay at a value resort ever again.
I feel that, while many teens are responsible and generally considerate of others, the temptation to go along with the crowd and behave badly is strong enough without giving them an opportunity to go wild because of lack of proper supervision.
Only trouble is: there is no way of knowing if the group of kids that will be staying down the hall from you will be properly supervised or not.

Re: Value resort warning: Beware of Cheerleaders
I watched that show and really got in to it. Which is kind of sad to admit in its own right. But I remember thinking the same thing Robin did during the last 2 shows. They were all over that resort and it made me think of posts where people have complained of that same thing. Maybe this is mean but it made me chuckle alittle and than a felt bad for the people vacationing who probable had no clue they would be invading by cheerleaders.

Re: Value resort warning: Beware of Cheerleaders
You are definately right that it's all in the supervision. We go away for sporting events alot and most parents just let their kids run rampid in the hotels and I look like a warden because the rules when away are the same as when we are at home. It takes a while after dd has hung out with the group of kids to real her back in sometimes from the flip attitude she gets.

Re: Value resort warning: Beware of Cheerleaders
Disney couldn't pay me to stay at one of these resorts when the Cheerleaders are there. My daughter is still young so I haven't had to be a parent to a teenager yet. I have absolutely no patience for kids who run rampant like that. The rude behaviors and flip attitudes of the teenagers I have seen makes me dread the day my daughter goes to high school. I am trying so hard to raise her right but sometimes the temptation to go along with the crowd is too much at that age. Usually when I see older kids exhibiting bad behavior in front of my daughter, I use them as an example to show her how NOT to behave

Re: Value resort warning: Beware of Cheerleaders
Speaking of this. A postal worker took her two twin daughters (ages 9) to this cheerleader competition. She told me they were at WDW for 4 days and only got to ONE park - MGM. That was it. They brought all their own food and only ate pizza (she thought that was eating Disney food). I told her I needed to plan a trip for her and her girls where they could actually enjoy it.
Her comments about Disney world. "It was OK". WHAT??? As far as I was concerned she really didn't go to WDW. She finally agreed and said the way I describe it is TOTALLY different that what she experienced! Really? LOL

I hate to break it to you but the attitude usually starts coming home from school long before high school. My dd is in 5th grade and although normally she is really good some times she is unbearable. I can only imagine what her classmates act like.

AND God Bless You! My son has taken many Band trips & had a wonderful time, but weeks before they leave town meetings are held with students & parents about what is expected & what WILL happen if appropriate behavior is not demonstrated. These cheerleaders (cute/loud as they are) are not the problem, they are excited kids...it's the lack of adults doing their jobs.
I know what you mean about lack of sleep...I chaperoned a New York City trip with 50 8th grades & we also walked with halls for 3 nights.
