Anyone Else Pack What Won't Be Coming Home? - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

we do this every trip, as we always buy our new tennis shoes in the States (so much cheaper than here). We go early in the trip and wear them in to check that we're happy with them, then once we are, the old ones get left behind. I may do the same with my jeans this trip, as they're too big for me, as I've lost a lot of weight since I bought them a couple of years ago.
The only things I dont bring back are things like tooth paste, soap, shampoo stuff like that. Cloths wise, have alwasys had our cloths for Disney which stay in the suitecase for the next trip. Last year I had to change things around because I had lost weight so had to buy new things. Since we go warm weather no socks, but I wouldnt want to wear ones with holes in them as I find that very uncomfortable, they go for dust rags.

Love the Magic of Disney Thanks Dad for our first 5 trips.
I do this a little bit. Last time I did take a couple old shirts wore them and then threw them away and bought new ones while I was there. I also pack a lot of extras that get used and thrown away....food, toiletries, and etc. Then I have plenty of room to bring back stuff.
On our last trip I threw away all my undies to make room for newly acquired stuff. But they weren't that old!
For those of you people be sure you get your underwear in the trash. Last time we went, there was a dirty pair of panties on our bathroom floor in the Contemporary and it took mousekeeping 3 days to remove them at our request. We actually still laugh about it today. We talked about finding a place in the room to hide our own underwear and then see if they were still there when we went back. Sad when dirty panties are always a laughable moment that comes up when we talk about our Disney trip with our family.
Now I better understand how someone left their underware behind. P.S. IF you find a dirty pair of underware hidden in your tower room in the Contemporary, they're not mine! Underwear don't take up that much space in my luggage.

Planning a trip to WDW is like planning a wedding... If you expect things to be flawless, you will be sadly disappointed. If you know that there will be less than perfect times & decide to just laugh them off, then you will be excited when you find the magic all around you.

I have done that with things like flip flops, but I don't like my Disney shoes to be on their last legs.
I do try to take deodorant and shampoo that will just make it through, and not bring the containers back.
I'm more likely to pack granola bars and goldfish crackers for the trip, then use the space we gain from eating for the souvies we bring home.
I'm in the same club that we often buy new. In fact, this is always the case for Disney trips. We'll hit the Disney store, or have some fun tshirts made so that we all look geeky & match in photos. It's about the ONLY place on Earth we can do that, and since the kids still agree too - I take advantage of it. I'm sure the time is coming that they'll roll their eyes at me and tell me that their life will be over if I make them wear THAT shirt.

....since we drive to WDW...there's only one thing I do not bring back home with us...the empties from the case of beer I tote with me to WDW (or is that 24 things?)
I bring old paperbacks that I've gotten for a few cents at our library books sale and toss them or give them away. I have thrown out underwear that was getting hole-y but was good enough for one more wear before tossing. (My grandmother would have been horrified--what if we were in an accident and had to go to the hospital?!)

Ahhh ahahahahahhahaha! You are so me! I have a buddy of mine who lives in FL buy me a case of beer on his ride to meet up with me (we meet up each yr when I fly down) & keep it in my room frig that way at night when the kid & our friends have their late night swims I don't have to go broke at the pool bar!
Ohhh and um yeah, I buy my daughter new clothes cause I take a bazillion pictures & hate seeing her in the same clothes we have back home.
So far is is clothing, food, and receipts. I been cleaning out my purse. I may have to leave my largest suitcase if I cannot get some duct tape as it has a 3 inch strip ripped off the side and some stuff is falling out. I bought me new underwear which is at home so I am throwing away my bras and panties as I will not need them at home. I was in a hurry and brought a pair of pants that have a large hole in the middle and the waistband is falling off. Trips are for wearing your old clothes and getting new ones,

Disneyland was fun with flag retreat and pickles. I have a home here, thank you. GAC is NOT a "front of the line pass".
She is gone but keeping signature. Laundry is getting done. My purpose in life is to help poor people in FL. Farewell, will miss you.
Yuck is right!!! How the heck did it take Mousekeeping 3 days to remove them?! And HOW did they pass them up the first time they went in to clean up the room? I mean, typically doesn't Mousekeeping know when it's a change in "rentership". I mean - once the room is being flipped to a new family, the room should have been cleared of anything that didn't belong there. Eeewwww... I couldn't have waited for Mousekeeping - I would have found something to pick them up with (a wad of toilet paper as thick as my arm or a bag or something) and tossed it into the trash and then promptly washed & sanitized myself. LOL
I do it both ways.. I have taken old shoes & flip flops & left them but we always buy new undies & socks every trip..
your post got me thinking tho.. I wonder if it wouldn't be better to take some older undies & then throw them away in WDW & keep the new ones I bought for home. I just might have to check my drawer & see if I have any throw away-able panties.
I know I don't have old socks as I DETEST socks & only wear them when it is absolutely necessary so I only have 1-2 pair at most in my drawer..
I do take half full deodorants etc & I send for every free shampoo, conditioner.lotion ( any HBA product) sample there is & when they arrive they go in a Disney box in my closet when trip time comes I usually have enough for the entire trip.. much easier than taking a big bottle.
hmmm I don't so much take stuff and through it out there but quite the opposite! I am a bit of a shopoholic so try to take an almost empty suitcase. I know I will buy so much when I am there including clothes so just take the essentials underwear, a good pair of jeans and a good pair of walking shoes. Almost everything else I buy there!
