Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

All the way from Australia

I have this issue sometimes and more so when I travel solo (waiting for someone else willing to go and I'd never go anywhere) but I've learned that Disney is worth it and to just enjoy places like this where everyone is excited you're going to WDW and wishes they could join you - I know I do.

I've learnt not to discuss planning with some friends. If they cannot say something nice, they should keep their mouth shut! I don't tell them where to vacation, so I don't think they should tell me I've been there already too many times.
When someone does say something I just tell them they are jealous. They go real quiet then!

Luckily, I don't have this problem. However, I do tend to take the wind out of the non-Disney sail by freely admitting to being a Mickey loving Disney addict (actually abbreviated that in to an email address that I use for anything Disney related). I follow that admission up with the fact that I think there should be a couple of 12 step type programs for folks like me & that they could have the Seven Dwarves program for those just starting on a Disney addiction& the 101 Dalmations program for me & those like me who are in full blown, beyond all hope addiction. After that I make the comments that even if those programs existed I wouldn't want the help & that in my opinion Disney is a pretty harmless addiction. If that doesn't work I'll just say something like 'well, than aren't you glad you're not going with me' or even better 'and you care about my vacation destination, why?' which usually ends the conversation. Of course, it's fairly easy for me to do this because I honestly don't care what people think of me. There are people (family & close friends) whose opinions matter to me but at the beginning & end of the day I'm the one that has to be able to look myself in the mirror & like the person I see & that's what's the most important.

I just had a friend make a serious dig on FB "I am just going to ask the question. What is up with people being in love with Disney characters, or movies, or the crap they charge an arm and a leg for, or even paying out the nose to go to their lands or worlds? I get it if you are like seven or even ten but as grown adults with lives? What gives? Am I missing something? Yes, some of them are cute, but really?"
Since I am the only friend she has who has been flooding their feed with Disney, I know she meant me. So I replied and said "I'm not in LOVE with it but I certainly enjoy it a lot. It's my place to go escape from the real world...when the real world is too much. I would go every year if I could, it's a really awesome place to go. for others, it's not."
she hasn't responded yet but it irritated me. It's money I have earned and set aside for this. It's a place i REALLY enjoy going to and I KNOW that many have never gone and I'm spoiled by having gone even 5 times, let alone once or twice but it's where I like to go. so, there!

I've had this problem. What I have done is not tell them about specific plans. If they ask me I'll just tell them I'm going to WDW on x date and that's about it. I hate it when people give their opinions about stuff like that. I tend to just brush it off.

I really don't feel anyone other than the people who are travelling with me are entitled to an opinion about my vacations. If anyone even looks like they are about to say "you're going again??" I head it off with "I am so lucky we found something that works for our family. We have never had a bad vacation there."

The nay-sayers in my circle have learned over the years to not to mock my families love for Disney vacations. Last time someone said something negative to me about our trips walked away feeling about two inches tall. I responded to their nasty remark with "I'm sorry you don't find family time more important than your new Coach bags, weekly massages, and the Lexus in your garage... but I'm sure your kids are happy for you and will always have fond memories of your new bling for many years to come!" I said it with a smile.

Yeah! What she said!

I get "y'all must really like Disney! Does Mike (my DH) like it too?" Yes we do. Even my husband! We love having family trips. Our DD is 21 and she loves it too. Who knows when she might have a family of her own if they will want to go with us. Enjoy it while it lasts!

I feel sorry for those that don't "get" it. They don't know what they are missing!

It's even worse for those of us without kids who still love to go to Disney. I think most of my coworkers have just gotten use to my Disney trips and don't say much anymore. My family use to wonder why we go so often but now they all want to go with us!

How well do I know this problem? :-) I've gotten to the point of just not telling friends and family anymore. My husband and I would rather go to Disney than anywhere else. It's magical, relaxing, loving, it's where we fit "in". I also get the "must be nice to afford a vacation" stuff too. So, I just don't say anything anymore. It's better that way. Of course, my family doesn't support me in anything I do, so I don't expect anything else lol Do what's important to you and don't worry about anyone else.

I have a nephew and a nephew-in-law who always make negative comments about our twice-yearly trips to Disney. DH and I travel often - two trips to Europe this past summer. I am so tired of their comments. I keep quiet to avoid unnecessary stress at family gatherings.

Well, I went that route too. But I simply commented.... "Geez, aren't you a little ray of sunshine! We'd rather make family memories than regrets." They haven't given me static since. LOL

I don't know why people care where anyone goes on vacation. And if they don't like the answer than don't ask the question.
I have a brother that goes away to Cancun and similar places every year because he likes to scuba and he and his wife both love it. I would never ask him why they are going there again. If you like it go.
