The “Hurt So Good” TR or How You Can Feel Bad and Still Feel Good - UPDATED 10/17 COMPLETE!! - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Ok illness number one - I am hoping that the lessened pain stayed that way and you were able to find some pepto just to keep for emergencies. I have to tell you that pepto was our first purchase at Fultons on our trip as well. Love the pictures...glad that you got to Toontown and had a short wait to see the Fairies. Can't wait to hear how the girls enjoyed meeting them.
glad your stomach wasn't hurting too much by the time you got there. Sounds like you are having fun. I've never seen Disney at halloween, the pictures are great
(My Photopass pics should be here soon and I’ll update with those as soon as I can.)
The girls were both very shy to meet the fairies. Just like last trip, they liked the characters, but were both nervous about interacting with them. We talked about it and I encouraged them both to talk to Tink, show her their lanyards (Cory was even wearing her Tinkerbell shirt, although it was fairly hidden with her lanyard and birthday button.)
We were the second group to go and get sprinkled with Pixie Dust, and while we waited, we were entertained by a wonderful older couple (from PA, I think) who worked together as CMs. The wife asked us who in our group could name all the fairies and of course, Cory’s hand shot in the air and she rattled off all the names. Poor Kelley was trying to get a name in, but her sister just kept on going!
Next, the husband came and escorted us down to be sprinkled and as soon as we were ‘fairy size’, we entered Pixie Hollow! Iridessa, Rosetta and of course, Tink, were waiting to greet us. Kelley was immediately disappointed that Silvermist was not present, but her sister grabbed her shoulders and said, “That’s because you’re the REAL Silvermist!”
Tinkerbell was by far the most magical of the crew – she was outstandingly wonderful. She talked to each of the girls in turn, noting Cory’s birthday button and asking how old she was going to be. And then she turned immediately to Kelley and asked how old she was. When Kelley told her 11, she said, “You’re gonna stop at 12, right? So no more birthdays. Because 12 is as old as you wanna be.”
The girls were absolutely enchanted. I wish I had taken video of this whole encounter instead of photos, because it’s a memory that will last a lifetime.
Iridessa and Rosetta were just ‘ok’ in that they didn’t really interact with the girls, just pleased to pose for a quick photo. Rosetta did ask where the girls were from and when they told her Tennessee, she said, “Oh, I guess that’s where you play tennis in the sea, huh?”
Just a thought here – but I really appreciate when the characters take time to interact with the older kids. I know it’s a lot easier with the little ones, they’re so cute and innocent. But the ages that Kelley and Cory are right now are the time when girls are standing with one foot in the make-believe world of childhood and one foot in the realm of adults – and they still NEED to pretend and believe in magic…for just a little while longer…
We quickly grew back to our normal size and headed out into Toontown. It was really hot – and the humidity was beginning to make us feel as though we had just stepped out of a bath.
And here’s where I get to explain two of my ‘frustrations’ about this trip. Kevin doesn’t handle heat very well and gets overheated quickly. So he was constantly stopping for drinks the entire trip. And when you drink A LOT, you have to do what…? That’s right – bathroom breaks. So Kevin stopped to search out a cold soad. He wanted a Dr. Pepper but since we were in a Coca-Cola park, he was stuck with Coke. Secondly, Cory developed a ‘bathroom obsession’ shortly before this trip began. “Just in case,” she wanted to use about every restroom we passed. And she’s not quick, either. She had already used the bathroom 15 minutes after we arrived that morning, and was already asking if there was another one nearby! Just in case, you know…
It was time to catch the WDW Railroad over to Frontierland - Splash and BTMRR were awaiting! Cory wanted to ride Goofy’s Barnstormer, but I reminded her that we would be here again tomorrow evening and we could do any attractions we missed today.
As soon as we stepped off the train, I could see that it was much more crowded here in Frontierland. With Space Mountain closed, the thrill seekers were all over on this side of the park! We FPed Splash and then headed to the standby line for BTMRR.
Kevin had already done his VitaMotion-S spray on the train so it would have time to get in his system. This was a big test for him and I couldn’t tell whether he was nervous or not. This was also Kelley’s first time on BTMRR. Last trip, she sat it out because Dad sat it out – and she was a bit nervous.
The standby line was posted at 20 min., but I think we only waited about 15 minutes before we were off on our train adventure. The sisters chose to be ride partners again and Kevin and I sat in the car behind them.
Kelley loved it; she and Cory couldn’t wait to do it again! As soon as we exited, I turned to Kevin to see how he felt. He said he was perfectly fine and didn’t feel any motion sickness at all!!! Wahoo!!!
It was just about 11:30 ; we were running a bit late for our lunch schedule. Since we wanted to try new places to eat this year, I gave everyone the option of staying where we were and eating at Pecos Bills or heading back towards Liberty Square and trying Columbia Harbor House. We could then come back for Splash when our FPs were ready. But Kevin wanted to know what the plan was for after lunch (you could tell he was mentally calculating the least amount of walking to get to the next attraction on the list.) And when would we be coming back for Splash Mountain?
A look at our FPs revealed that they would be ripe in 15 minutes. Kevin wanted to just stay and do Splash before lunch…so we waited the 15 minutes before we entered to FP Return line. (Deep breath, remember I said I would let Kevin have some say in what we would do this trip!)
Kevin and Cory opted to wear their rain ponchos; Kelley and I felt perfectly comfortable without them. It was so hot and sticky, it wouldn’t really matter if you got wet or not! Luckily, the log in front of us was the one to get hosed by the water cannons – and Kelley and I emerged with only wet bottoms!
The girls and I had made a pact that we would make crazy faces on all the attractions that took photos – and we looked absolutely hysterical in this one! Unfortunately – I forgot to go back and buy the photo.
I just realized we didn’t take many photos during this stage of our trip – I think we were so focused on making sure Kevin didn’t experience any motion sickness that we just didn’t think about it. We do have one by the Liberty Belle Riverboat.
It was pretty late by the time we got to Columbia Harbour House (thanks to my roundabout way of getting us there – don’t ask! ) I loved the look and feel of CHH and was really glad we made the decision to give it a try. I wanted to take photos, but I was so hungry (I had little to eat that morning because of my stomach issues) that I completely forgot to take time and do it. We ordered a combination of fish and chicken and shared all around. Kevin had his second apple pie of the vacation (it would end up being 7 apple desserts by the time the trip was over!) Cory was stuck with yogurt for her kids’ dessert but I split my apple pie with her and she was happy.
On to The Haunted Mansion! It was pretty chilly in there, especially when you have a wet bottom, and I had to snuggle close to my ride partner (Kevin) to keep warm. As soon as we got to see who our hitchhiking ghost friends would be, the ride stopped dead in its tracks for a couple minutes – and then we were on our way again.
After HM, I heard the call of the wind and the sails and the open sea – time to head over to Adventureland and Pirates of the Caribbean…
UP NEXT: Will Capt. Jack be disinclined to acquiesce Cory’s request?

What a great morning! Glad motion sickness didn't ruin it for anyone!
Can't wait to hear about PoC!

What a great meeting with the Fairies. I agree with you about the importance of the interaction with kids of various ages, especially when at the girls ages when they are trying to keep the magic but then they have a bunch of people that make them feel that they are too old...(My DD has a few friends that make fun that she still "believes" in magic).
Glad they both had a great time...love the pictures. I am so happy to here that there was no motion sickness felt by Kevin. That definitely will make your trip much easier. Can't wait to hear more.
Great time with the fairies! And glad no motion sickness! I feel your pain on the bathroom breaks.....the boys in this family are very well aquainted with every bathroom in Disney!
