As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Wow, I was just going to post this. Dh and I brought our change jar in (well not a jar exactly but a Poland Springs dispenser jug) and after 2 1/2 years we had $1108.52 in change!!!! I could not believe it!! I was so excited, because now we will not have to charge anything during our trip!

Wow! That's alotta mula!!
I always count our change from our two small banks(ones a crayon, the other a cow)and usually end up with about $40 each time.
My aunt has a really old jug. I don't know what kind if jug it is, but it's only about an 1/8 full and you cannot pick it up.

I love collecting the change. This weekend we counted and had $132.44 since my Jan. trip. DH and I discussed it and I took it to school today to donate to our Make-A-Wish fund for a little 6 year old boy who wants to go to WDW. I challenged my class to match it in our collecting!

I just counted out my change bucket ( I use a popcorn bucket from WDW) and I totaled $206.00. I did have about $54 in bills though. I too don't give change most of the time. Though sometimes if the change is like 5 or 10 cents I will and then just put a dollar bill in the bucket.

I started a "Vacation Fund" jar (for my Oct. 2004 trip) in January '04 . . . by October, I had $150 in bills and (mostly) quarters!!!
For my January '05 trip, I stuffed away any money I received as a Christmas gift and ended up with just about $125 there . . .
For our trip last month, I had saved $60.
As soon as we got home, if I had any cash left in my wallet, I stuffed it in the jar to get a jump start on the next trip's savings . . . I had $100 in there as of last week, I put $80 in the bank today to make up for my ressie I made for November, then realized DH took $20 out of there without telling me!!! 
So . . . it is time to hide the change jar!!!
But I do love my change jar . . . I really, really do!!!  |

My dd glued pictures of WDW to a large coffee can and we cut a slit in the lid and that is what we use to collect change. I try not to use any change when I shop I only use bill and put the change in the can. It does add up.

I don't use a change container; I don't like rolling large amounts at once and I categorically REFUSE to gice Coinstar 8.9% (that's 9 cents out of every dollar!) to do it for me.
Instead, I have a plastic container with 4 change tubes in it, each sized to contain 1 roll of the 4 common coins. I take my change out of my pocket each night and separate it into the 4 tubes, and when a tube fills up I roll it.
I'm currently up to $83 (that's since I got back from WDW on Dec 13). I expect to have about $100 in change by the time I head back to WDW on May 19, which will almost pay for my rental car!

You can take the change to a Commerce Bank - they have the machine that adds the coins and it is free - they do not take a percentage. I know there are some other banks doing this too, you do not need to have an account there. You can just walk in and empty your change jars.

I also save all my change. Every month or so I take it to the bank and put it in my Disney fund account. I've been saving change for this trip since we got back from our last trip in 2002.
I also save 2 dollar bills to use for tips! I work in a supermarket and have the office girls save any 2 dollar bills for me, so far I have over 200 dollars.

I just take my jar to my local bank. They put it in their machine and then give me the cash for it. No charge, no account, and less work for me! Plus, I tend to have a TON of change so...it adds up quick(man I'm going to have a heavy purse after my 10 day trip to Canada this summer!!...I always wonder where on earth all my money has gone so fast until I get home and realize I have about $20 in change that I didn't bother to use...although I  the fact that our dollar is strong in Canada...CHEAP!! yay!) |
