"UPDATED" With "REVIEW" Has anyone rented "The Dream" ECV from Scooter Vacations? - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I have a question about one of the other scooters the Distinction SUV. The one that folds up like a stroller. Has anyone used this one and folded it up and walked on the bus like you would with a stroller. This would make it more attractive to my DH who has very bad knees.
Thanks so much for telling us about the Dream !! ANd Sue, thank you for giving us the dimensions for the lifts, etc. Just a point - when I read about the woman who was unhappy with her mega-scooter- of you are ever unhappy with an ECV or wheelchair that you have rented from anyplace, just call the company and request another model. It's your vacation and you deserve to be comfortable!

The one the rental company calls the Distinction SUV seems to be very similar to this one made by the EVRider company (called the "Caddy". Caddy Transportable Electric Vehicle
According to the EVRider site, it weighs about 80 pounds, so you would still need to use the wheelchair lift or ramp. It looks like you could roll it in that way, but I'm not sure how easy/comfortable it would be to hold something that heavy and large up in the bus. I have seen people with strollers almost that big, but they would be much lighter.
last time i was in FL, i (as a wheelchair user) had problems with the Dream Scooter users - they are VERY tall! If you are in a wheelchair viewing/waiting area or behind one in a preshow, no one else using a wheelchair has any hope of seeing over them.
For CP, I was in the front row of the back section - where they put you if you transfer from your chair. there was a dream scooter in front of me in the wc seating, maybe 10 ft in front of me - I couldnt see a thing! They were easily a foot taller than all other people sitting on the benches! I get why being taller would be cooler (i use a wheelchair in daily life), but it does make it harder to plan around!
I guess my only advice for Dream users is to be aware of who is behind you, especially if you are not in wheelchair seating which is in the back of the theatre. Just a thought!

I did DLR with Piper this month and her tiny wittle itty bitty scooter ran out of power the first day and I had to take it to get charged. I then walked back to have lunch with her and loaned her my hulking monster Lark 3 aka Gerty the dinosaur.
Tiny scooters may run out of power and the bigger ones may be too heavy to lift in a car. The distance they measure does not include steep ramps, curb cut offs and other conditions that drain batteries. I had to put my hand on Piper's seat and push her up the ramp for Soarin' and one other hill. Tiny is nice for malls but parks can be hard on scooters. Make sure you plug in your scooter if you do not need it such as at dinner.

Disneyland was fun with flag retreat and pickles. I have a home here, thank you. GAC is NOT a "front of the line pass".
She is gone but keeping signature. Laundry is getting done. My purpose in life is to help poor people in FL. Farewell, will miss you.
I am so interested in this scooter!! Please can you come back and tell us what you thought of it ? I go in November and so far have not hear anoyne getting it. thanks
I rented one last year and loved it. Had no problem with the Disney buses. Made a lot of friends with folks commenting on it. I plan on getting another one for my trip in March 2010.
Just read this information on another board. It was posted today March 30,2010 by a WDW Bus Driver.
AS OF MARCH 30, 2010, OVERSIZE SCOOTERS ARE NO LONGER ALLOWED ON THE WDW BUSES. THIS INFORMATION WAS POSTED on MARCH 30 BY A WDW BUS DRIVER:
There is now a painted box at the wheelchair loading queue which is 30"X48" (which is the ADA standard). Your ECV MUST conform to those dimensions to ride the bus. Figure 1
If your ECV does not fit those dimensions, the driver is to call for a transportation manager who will explain alternate arrangements.
THE DREAM SCOOTER DISCUSSED HERE IS LARGER THAN THE ALLOWED MEASUREMENTS.

Sue, thanks for that up-to-the-minute information!
I just got a PM from someone I think is the owner of the company that rents Dream scooter indicating they will fit into the measurement box as long as the front wheel is turned in. The pictures I have seen of them on the lift show them taking every inch of the lift platform. So, I guess the jury is still out on this. The WDW Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities has always said the the wheelchair or ECV must fit "without forcing".
If they are considered to fit without forcing, they will be allowed.
BUT, I also got a message from a bus driver who indicated that the lifts can only accommodate 600 pounds total, so if the weight of the driver and their belongings plus the weight of theDream Scooter is over 600 pounds, then they would exceed the limit of the lift. The message indicated the ramps will accomodate 800 pounds.

So the lifts will handle 600 pounds, while hte ramps will handle 800 pounds. Sue?

Correct, but most power wheelchairs and some ECVs are close to 300 pound without anyone on them.
So, a 300 pound person with a bag that weighs 10 pounds on a 300 pound ECV will exceed the capability of the lift.

You are amazing, Sue! Not only can you investigate, but you can do math too!
