As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Found mine in 1999 in a Books-A-Million bookstore. Was hooked immediately!

Re: How did you find Passporter?
January 2000, Barnes and Noble in Burlington, VT. We were planning our honeymoon and I'm the ultra planner so I had copies of every book on the subject that was available, or so I thought when I stumbled upon Passporter. That's when I started luking here of and on, before registering and starting to post last year.

Re: How did you find Passporter?
Fun question! I was searching on Amazon.com for books on Walt Disney and of course it put me into the travel section. I stumbled upon Passporter, and I knew I just HAD to have it. I even called DH about it (at this point he KNEW I was a nut). I called my local B&N and had them hold it (they only had one left) and I picked it up on my way home from work. I lurked here for a bit, but, was definitely addicted to the amount of information! Thanks everyone!

Re: How did you find Passporter?
I honestly don't recall specifically, but I think it was last Fall, when our next WDW trip was just in the dreaming stages. I think I just stumbled on the website while browsing other Disney-oriented sites. I did a little lurking, and downloaded all the freebies.
I do specifically remember that when my in-laws came over to our house to book our vacation together, my next stop on the web after confirming our ressies was passporter.com! I pre-ordered my 2002 Deluxe edition as soon as I knew for sure I was headed to WDW!

Re: How did you find Passporter?
Like a lot of the people who responded, I was in a bookstore.. I was just staring at the WDW books... wistfully. I just KNEW I couldn't afford a WDW vacation, but I could afford a book about one, right?
So, I bought the book. I started lurking around the boards.. and found out that maybe I COULD afford to visit WDW..
So, I owe my whole November trip to you wonderous people.. Thank you, thank you!!
BTW- I just booked and paid for our room at ASMu today!

Re: How did you find Passporter?
Once we decided that Disney was our summer destination, I went to the official WDW site and got some prices...Then I went surfing and found a link here. I couldn't get to the Barnes & Noble fast enough - and then I registered and bought my PassPorter holders and fanny packs (for myself & DH). I also took advantage of the free 2000 copies and my girls decided that THEY each wanted one, too!! They think we are totally cool and I know they can't be wrong! Re: How did you find Passporter?
Great topic!
I was searching the web while planning our May 2001 trip. I found this site and the book looked good, so I ordered it. It was pretty much the only guide I used on that trip! I lurked for awhile, and then finally joined the Boards. I still surf the other sites, but these are the only Boards I am on.

Re: How did you find Passporter?
I found Passporter in a unique way.. I had sold a couple Disney items to someone on Ebay & she& I got to e-mailing about Disney & she directed me to this site.. My only problem is I don't remember her name.. So, if you are the one who won my Disney bids.. Thank you & please let me know who you are!

Re: How did you find Passporter?
I had purchased Rita Aero's travel book and in the beginning it had links to other sites and Passporter was one of the first I looked at it. That would have been in August 2000. Became a member of the site then but in the recent site upgrade, my profile got lost so I had to start over.
This is the only site I have to go on daily!

Re: How did you find Passporter?
I found this web site first, saw the Passporter description, got in the van, went to Barnes & Noble and the happy, organized planning began. My Passporter was the best money spent! No more running around looking for little scraps of paper with ever so important information on them. DH teased me about even sleeping with my Passporter. Can't wait to get the next one for our upcoming trip in Febraury. I'm already starting to carry around my old one!

Re: How did you find Passporter?
A friend told us that her daughter always uses Passporter to plan their WDW trip. The testimonial was so great that I had to check it out. Looked at it in the boodstore...did not buy at that time. When I went back they were out, so I ordered online.

Re: How did you find Passporter?
In the previous several years we had bought six or seven different guidebooks--some good and some abysmal. Like several others, I was/am a devotee of Deb Wills' WDWIG.com. Last year we saw the ad there, thought it looked good, clicked through and bought PassPorter 2001. It not only looked good; it *was* good, so the minute 2002 became available, I was on it like a duck on a junebug.
My sister is accompanying us on our October trip, so last week I popped into Borders here in SF to see whether I could grab a copy to send her. Sadly, Borders had none. (Someone above in this thread mentioned having bought it at Borders, so perhaps they're just temporarily sold out.) I'll be clicking over here on the site to buy one and send it to my sis in only moments. PassPorter is a delicious way to whet the appetite for the upcoming trip.
