Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Interesting concept, kinda fun hunting those tings down.

I thought when I started I was at level 0 needing one ting to move to level 1. When I found one it reset the counter to 0/10 but was still at level 0. Did I just mis-read that at first? It did move to level one after I collected another 10 tings.

I also found out that if you search "ting" in the article search every article that came up had the bell hidden in it. Makes it super easy to find them (although no where near as much fun than hunting them down).

Tell me where you read that please. I checked What Are Tings and Concierge Levels? - PassPorter's Club Concierge Desk, but it seems to be correctly described there (at least to me).

Actually, every article can have a ting hidden on it somewhere. It's random if and where it shows up. And I can change the placement and frequency (insert evil laugh here). I've got it set to be pretty easy right now while I figure out what the right setting is. The article search can't search for the tings, as that is outside of its search parameters. What you found, instead, was articles that had the letters 'tings' somewhere in their text. For example, the Disney's California Adventure article has the word "disorienting" in its text, so it shows up in a search for "tings." It only seems like you found articles with tings in them because nearly every article will give a ting right now ... nearly. And, of course, the article won't show a ting at all if you've found one there already.

Should I be making it harder to find the tings, you think?

I've updated My Tips to include the ability add your own tips!

Everyone may now add public tips -- and if they are approved, you will receive tings for your contribution. Approved public tips can be discovered like all the other tips. Public tips are also automatically entered into our regular tip contest!

Those who have made it to concierge level 5 may also add PRIVATE tips, which can be edited as often as you like, but cannot earn tings until you decide to make them public and they are then approved.

To add a tip, just go to My Tips and look for the "Click here to upload your own tips!" link at the bottom of the window.

I noticed it on the My Desktop page on the left tab. I had thought it said I was at level 0 with 0/1 tings needed to continue. After I found one it changed to 0/10 for the next level but the level stayed at 0.

AHA! Now I see it ... when you start at the Concierge Desk without being logged in, it does says "0/1" -- I hadn't noticed that. Fixing it now. Thank you very much!

Hi Jen,

My ipad doesn't want to quote posts tonight

I noticed the 0/1 while I was logged in. If you are able to see the tips I found I have 11. The first reset the 0/1 to 0/10 while staying at level 0. The next 10 filled out the counter to level 1 and reset the counter to 0/25 (after 10 tings were found).

I also noticed that when you find a ting the counter doesn't update on the page the tip is posted on. I don't see it update until I go to the My Desktop page.

Well, I may have fixed the problem whether a person is logged in or not. I am not seeing the 0/1 anymore when I test it.

The behavior of going from 0-10 for level 1 and 0-25 for level 2 is as I intended it. Rather than showing you your total number of tings, I'm just showing the number you need to get to the next level. That seemed easier to digest to me. What do you think?

It's true that the counter doesn't update on the page the tip is posted to -- that's because the level is displayed before the new ting is even recorded. I'm not sure that I can find a way to calculate it beforehand, but I will look.

For example, on the Tom Sawyer Island article, the tip on that page would specifically be about Tom Sawyer Island?
What I thought, was that there were tips throughout the articles and if you thought it was something you wanted to remember you would ting the bell. One thing I've actually done is after reading something on these boards or in the articles is gone downstairs, grabbed our Passporter and made a note next to something I wanted to remember on our trip...when I read your description I thought it was going to be that in the articles, when there is a tip or idea that you could mark it to add to your desk...keeping with our example, on TSI a tip that could be mark might be the fact that it opens and closes at different times...or just separate from the article, there can be a tip about looking for paintbrushes (something I had no idea about till hanging out here)

But once I gathered what the system you had envisioned was supposed to be, I do think it is good, and will be a lot of fun to mess with.

Ok, found another one and it logged it...so seems to be working.

I like the concept....going to play with it and see what I get. Am I to understand the 'tings' are in articles, not individual posts?

The tings needed for the next level display makes sense to me. Some people might want a running total of tings found (or would that be the same as the number of tips listed?)

Overall it's a fun hunt to find the tings. It would be fun to also find them in the forums too (if that's even possible). I also would echo the request someone made that the tips listed be relevant to the article (I know, that makes a lot more work on your end).

Looking forward to seeing how this all settles in, thanks for making the site even more fun.

Based on your suggestions, I've added a way for related tips to appear in PassPorter articles. Right now, the featured article on each of our destination pages has a related tip that can be saved to personal collections, as well as the random bell that may or may not appear. It would take too much work to go back and match an older article to a tip (though I will try my best anyway), but I will match future articles to tips.

Here are three examples of articles with related tips:
Tom Sawyer Island: An Unexplored Attraction at the Magic Kingdom - PassPorter.com
All Aboard: Disney Cruise Line Tips - PassPorter.com
PassPorter.com: Travel tips, U.S. travel, international travel, and travel guides

What do you think?
