As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

You order Easter eggs? What are they like? Like hard boiled colored eggs or plastic eggs?
This would be my Tesco order and they didn't turn up. They're large chocolate Easter eggs essentially - that's what we were after.

Oh we definitely have chocolate eggs! Some better than others... I sure wish we could have Cadbury ones. Dove chocolate is pretty good. I do see Lindt chocolate bunnies for sale here though. So. Very. Good.

Saturday 19 April – part eight: you just know they’re going to be loud!
We headed out just before 6:30pm to get some dinner, and my goodness, it was cold again! It’s almost as if as soon as the sun goes down, the temperature drops through the floor. I also think the car park by the river is a bit of a wind tunnel, as the wind really whips down there.
We wandered over the bridge, and had a look at the menu of one place, but it was pretty much pizza, so we wandered back again.
We thought about getting fish and chips, as there were three different places to pick from, but we decided to check out the menu for the Star of India restaurant. It really isn’t much to look at from outside…
… but inside, it’s very nice and chic.
What we both liked was the second we walked in, we were immediately greeted like old friends by a guy who I assume is the owner. He was chatting away to us in no time as if he’d known us forever. We were also impressed by the fact that various people turned up, and he seemed to know all of them, so it’s obviously popular with the locals.
We got the traditional poppadums to start the meal off…
… along with a selection of dips to go with it. The ones I liked were the mint yoghurt (the white one) and the mango chutney next to it. The other two I didn’t touch, as they were onion salad and the hot lime chutney.
Once we’d finished with that, we did have a bit of a wait for our main courses to come out. During that time, a big group of 10 people showed up. From what I could tell, I think they were celebrating one girl’s 30th birthday, as she had a glass that said “30” on it. You just knew as soon as they arrived that they were going to be loud. A number of them walked in with beer glasses or wine glasses, with beer or wine already in them, which is very unusual here. The owner didn’t miss a beat. They told him they might be loud, and he told them to enjoy themselves, but absolutely no swearing, which was fair enough, as there were a couple of kids in there.
We gathered early on from their conversation that they were on a boat, and I bet it’s a rowdy one. I was already saying a silent prayer that we wouldn’t go back to our boat to find one moored next to us in the empty space…. I couldn’t bear being close to a big, loud group like that.
Finally, our main courses showed up. I got the prawn malaya, which the menu told me was made up of pineapple and cream. I’d never come across this on any Indian menu, so it intrigued me. It was very tasty, although it did have a little bit of heat to it, but I loved it, and happily polished it off. There was a good lot of prawn in it, and it was very well cooked.
Mark had the traditional chicken tikka masala, and said that it was lovely when he started eating it, but it must’ve carried on cooking as he ate it, and eventually it became a bit chewy for him.
Once we were done, we both decided that we needed to get out as soon as we could before the loud group got any louder. The beers had just arrived, and the wine was coming out, and I figured that could only add to it…
We asked the owner for the bill, and I asked about ice cream, as my mouth was a little hot. Mark said he’d seen some coconut ice cream in a coconut shell, and sure enough, they had some, so we got that as a takeaway to head back to the boat.
I really enjoyed this meal, and this place was a great find.

We paid up, and headed back to the boat. It was twilight now, and the lighting in the sky was beautiful…
When we got back on board, we had a visit from these two guys…
We settled down to watch the TV, although sadly not the channel we wanted, as no matter what we tried, we just couldn’t get that one through the aerial.
About 9:30pm, we really were both exhausted, and could barely keep our eyes open, so we headed off to our short four poster bed.
The weather today was dry with some sun and some cloud and temperatures in the low 50s. The best thing today was Blickling Hall. The worst thing today was the loud group at dinner. The funniest thing today was the embarrassing woman on the train back, asking when her friend was going to have her next child. Today we tried taking the Bure Valley Railway And the result was it was very enjoyable. The most magical moment today was seeing the cows along the railway line.

Good thing you guys got out of the restaurant before more drinks were served! How was the coconut ice cream? I've never tried that flavor before... actually not sure I've really come across it before!? It's on my list now, I shall find it somewhere.
