Southern Fried in Mickey's World Updated 12/31 - Page 19 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm sorry that to hear Luke's T-shirt shrunk after washing but hopefully you'll be able to stretch it enough that he can wear it still. Your meal and service at Sanaa sounded wonderful!

The method we found on line seems to have worked. Now I'll just need to be careful when washing it in the future. Sanaa has always been a great meal.

Thanks! I wish I could get butter chicken closer to home as once or twice a year is not often enough.

After dinner, we went back out to the savanna lookout on the ground floor. Quite a few animals were out by this point. The Thompson gazelles were grazing nearby.
One giraffe was dining on browse very close to the lookout. Such a pretty creature!
Back toward Jambo House, a zebra and Ankole cattle were grazing. It must be dinner time for everyone as some birds were feeding in this area, too.
Focusing my camera further up the Sunset Savanna, I discovered a small herd of wildebeests/gnus. Jambo House is again in the background.
Not too far away was an antelope and an ostrich. I love how the animals are allowed to mingle on the Sunset Savanna.
Then I panned the camera back through the animals while Luke pointed out to me where our room was.
Our room is the one on the first floor with a green railing and an orange piece of equipment right under it.
I was enjoying finally seeing some animals, but it was time for us to head to the bus stop as we had one final FastPass to use. We didn’t wait more than five minutes before a bus arrived, and soon we were walking back into Animal Kingdom. We headed straight to Pandora as our final FastPass was for Flight of Passage. Once we made our way through the long queuing that brings guest to the to of the building housing this attraction, we were sent to the next level to wait. In the end we would be riding this from the middle level. We progressed through the three pre-show areas, and then we were excitedly enjoying another flight on the back of a banshee through Pandora. Incredible! When we had entered the FP queue, it was around 7:25. As we exited the attraction the park was closing. But I did get several photos of Pandora after dark.
I had seen a AK 20th anniversary mug with lid when we were shopping at the Discovery Trading Company earlier that I had since decided I did want. With that in mind, we stopped there for that purchase, and then made our way out of the park.
Luke noticed that the 20th Anniversary PhotoPass backdrop was lit and had a short line, so before calling it a day, we had a photo made there.
We had a short wait at the bus stop, and when we boarded the bus, I sat next to a very sweet mother and her daughter who were from norther Virginia. She wondered if I was from Tennessee as she had family from there. I told her that I was originally from southern Kentucky, only about an hour from Tennessee so our accents were similar. Back at Kidani, we enjoyed some Big Bang Theory and relaxing in the room. I completed the notes for the day, and by 10:00 we ready for a good night’s sleep.
Some great photos from your room on the savanna. Love those of the gazelle's and especially the giraffe! Nice time in the AK and great photos of Pandora all lit up! Seems like another great ride on FOP! This ride is just amazing in every way!

My TR from my most recent trip is now underway. Includes: Universal Studios Florida, Disney World and Sea World Orlando Trifecta TR -Updated December 10th! TR is now COMPLETED!
Omg, that light! I actually zoomed in on the spider just to see if it was indeed fake. I was checking out some videos of Flight of Passage. Did you feel nauseous afterwards? We don't usually do the parks after dark cause we're usually exhausted and don't want to deal with the buses but I have got to see Pandora at night. Looking forward to more!
Your pictures of the savanna were so beautiful! That's a big piece of equipment in front of your balcony! AK is truly such a gorgeous park at night with all the lights and colors! I think we missed the 20th Anniversary picture in AK. I love your shirt you're wearing this day. It looks like it's from the Animal Kingdom.
You got lucky to see quite a few different animals on the savanna after your dinner!
It was interesting to see you room from across the way.
See where our room was from Sanaa reinforced just how far away it was.

I love Pandora lit up at night, so interesting and different from the way it looks in the daytime.
That's the one thing I regret from our last trip - that we didn't get to see Pandora after dark. It looks amazing from your photos.
Pandora truly puts on a show at night.

I take Dramamine before riding Flight of Passage and so far it has kept me from being nauseated after riding it.

There were two pices of equipment in front of our balcony the entire trip. Not the loveliest of views. The tee is one I bought back in May and it's for the 20th anniversary. I love it!
My first note for this day is “Oops! I forgot to charge the camera battery.” Unfortunately, the camera had to stay back in the room. On the bus ride to Hollywood Studios, the cutest little boy kept saying over and over, “We’re going to Hollywood Tiger Woods!” He was one excited little lad.
Once we had made it into the park, the plan was to head over to Rock ‘n Roller Coaster. But before we made it to Sunset Boulevard, we noticed an unoccupied PhotoPass photograph. Since we were still fresh, we decided this might be our only opportunity for some good photos.
Now, Luke could get two rides on Rock 'n Roller Coaster while I sat first on a wall and then on a bench, playing Disney Emoji Blitz. There was a new emoji I really wanted to earn. When Luke came back to switch Magic Bands, he told me the lady next to him told him that she hated the ride, but she couldn’t resist riding it every single time they visited Studios.
From the coaster, we headed back to Hollywood Boulevard for some breakfast at the Trolley Car Café/Starbucks. Luke saw the Carrot Cake Cookie here and decided that would be his breakfast along with a Strawberry Acai Lemonade, something very new for him. Luke decided after trying it that he’d probably not be getting that drink again, but he loved the cookie. I stuck with my normal breakfast of a chocolate croissant and a tall hot chocolate. We took our goodies to a table under a shady umbrella by the now defunct Starring Rolls.
When we finished breakfast, we headed back down Sunset Boulevard, heading for the Tower of Terror. In the boiler room line, the little boy right behind us told his mom that his teeth might be shaking. Another little cutie! I got excited as we reached the top and the doors opened, giving me a glimpse of Slinky Dog Dash. Then a series of fun drops ensued. I hammed it up a bit for the ride photo.
As we climbed back up from the exit of Tower of Terror, we noticed a PhotoPass photographer set up near the fence around the attraction. To my delight, she had a pumpkin sign prop. I’d been looking for a photographer who had one of these. WooHoo!
Our third FastPass was for midafternoon, so we now had some time on our hands. First, we stopped to get ourselves a couple of Cokes. We thought we’d tour One Man’s Dream, but no drinks allowed. Instead we went back to the Star Wars store to browse while sipping our Cokes. Then we found a shady bench near One Man’s Dream to sit for a while. We were amazed at the number of folks who were wearing jeans or pants. Eventually, we headed into One Man’s Dream, touring the exhibits and enjoying the air conditioning. After using the restrooms near the entrance to Toy Story Land, we entered Toy Story Land for the second time this trip. By the way this area looks very different when the gray clouds give way to bright sunshine. It’s also much, much hotter back there.
As we came to the Toy Story sign, I was finally able to get a good shot of it without any other folks intruding.
While I was setting up my photo, Luke noticed that their was only one family in front of us to get photos with the sign taken by a PhotoPass photographer. Guess what we did next? Got in line for our photo, too. Too bad the sun was so bright that we couldn’t take off our sunglasses. More lighting issues as this photographer compensated for the sun, but made the photos a wee bit dark.
Your photopass pictures and the borders are beautiful. I have never seen these borders. I hope that some of them will still be available for trip next month.
