As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: DisneyWHAT?? - oh, DisneyLAND - 3/16-20 - Day 4/part 2 - the FINAL 4 clues
<font color="blue"> Here are the final four clues of the treasure hunt Karen put together for the boys.
She's jealous and evil and has wicked powers.
She stands at this window for hour upon hour.
She watches the courtyard with eyes of a witch
and tugs at the curtains that shiver and twitch.
If the spinning and twirling and tossing don't getcha,
you'll find a nice view - that's one bet that I'll betcha!
Mad Hatter pours tea with a hand not quite steady,
so capture the lights - it's a sight that's quite heady.
You must find the door at the Company of "lights,"
but be careful, my dears, of the fright of all frights!
It's shocking how deadly the old 'lectric is...
so open it slowly or you'll turn to FRIZZ!
This fellow's been giving our host some bad grief
by stealing Mick's carrots - that darned little thief!
To snap a good photo, you two must be quick!
So watch the bad gopher and his naughty trick.
</font>
Karen - I cleaned up the meter on some of these because, looking back at them now, I realize that lack of sleep and the "trip jitters" do not make for good poetry. (Not that I make good poetry with 9 hours rest on a boring Friday... but, I couldn't help myself.)

Re: DisneyWHAT?? - oh, DisneyLAND - 3/16-20 - Day 4/part 2 - the FINAL 4 clues
Last, but not least...
She's jealous and evil and has wicked powers.
She stands at this window for hour upon hour.
She watches the courtyard with eyes of a witch
and tugs at the curtains that shiver and twitch.
This clue is a true insiders secret at Disneyland. Many (far too many actually) of the cast members don't even know about it. In Fantasyland, above Snow White's Scary Adventures, the drapes at the window part at random intervals to reveal the Evil Queen (does she have a name? ) glowering menacingly at the guests below.
If the spinning and twirling and tossing don't getcha,
you'll find a nice view - that's one bet that I'll betcha!
Mad Hatter pours tea with a hand not quite steady,
so capture the lights - it's a sight that's quite heady.
Because Southern California doesn't get the daily rain showers that seem so common in Florida, the Teacups are outside and uncovered. They're lit at night by these fun Japanese lanterns. If you look closely, you can see one of the Mickey 50's that they put up for the anniversary.
You must find the door at the Company of "lights,"
but be careful, my dears, of the fright of all frights!
It's shocking how deadly the old 'lectric is...
so open it slowly or you'll turn to FRIZZ!
One of the many "gags" in the Disneyland version of Toontown. If you open the door to the Electric Company, it makes a loud noise like you're being electrocuted. Funny to watch when the unsuspecting approach!
This fellow's been giving our host some bad grief
by stealing Mick's carrots - that darned little thief!
To snap a good photo, you two must be quick!
So watch the bad gopher and his naughty trick.
At the back of Mickey's house, you go through an indoor version of Mickey's backyard. In his garden, there's a row of beautiful looking carrots that disappear at random intervals (seemingly sucked underground.) When the last carrot disappears, this evil little gopher pops up and emits a rather wicked little giggle.
Hope you had fun!

You know - I wish they'd gotten the Evil Queen face-on. When I saw the picture they captured, I remembered what made me scream...
It was her. She's really creepy!

I finally got all caught up, and I'm LOVING this report! You guys are hysterical I remeber seeing the evil queen on an old sing-a-long songs tape that took place at
Disneyland - Disneyland Fun. I'd love to eventually see her in person! More please!

Re: DisneyWHAT?? - oh, DisneyLAND - 3/16-20 - Day 4/part 3 - last day - 6/14
<font color="blue"> Guess I have to finish this up QUICK - since I leave for WDW in less than 48 hours!
While the boys were getting that picture of the Indy truck tire tracks, Bob and I stood chatting with a wonderful CM -- this guy was a very WDW-like Cast Member. Very chatty, very helpful, very friendly. (Not to impugn the reputation of the DLR CMs, but we didn't find them as outgoing and "ready to make magic" for their guests. The were all very nice, but not as nice as in Florida.) Anyway, this CM (who's name escapes me at the moment and I can't find my notebook right now) talked with us for at least ten minutes -- about the ride, about WDW and DLR, about being a CM, about his trip to Florida in June. He was excited to ride Mission:Space and he and Bob talked about it a bit. When he found out that Bob was a ride designer, he was soooo in to talking to us! Then he pulled out a piece of paper and started excitedly writing something. I thought he was giving us his email address since we would be at The World at the same time. Nope... he handed us a couple of special FastPasses to be used anywhere in the park!
SCORE!! We thanked him profusely and went on our way.
Well, it came in handy as the park was really hopping now. So, after the stop to get the pics at the Haunted Mansion, we went back to Big Thunder Mountain and went 'round the mountain. (I love how it's a mirror version of the WDW one!
[Everyone wanted a picture of me on this ride!]
We stopped at the ranch and Zack made good friends with this straaaaange cow. The poor thing had some neurological condition that made it lick its tongue against its jaw over and over and over and over. It was a little unsettling and the phrase "mad cow disease" kept circling around in my brain!
[Either she just had peanut butter or....]
As we walked back near the castle, Bob got a good picture of the mountain climbers on the Matterhorn. Pretty cool that they're doing this again for the 50th! Apparently, Mickey and other characters sometimes climb too!
Our next treasure hunt stop was in Toontown and, as it was dark when we explored before, we really took our time looking around.
[Zack getting zapped at the Electric Company door]
[Mickey must get a discount on cheese, because these prices are amazing!!]
We had a final clue to give the boys and it was a little card that told them to find a certain locker and use the security code provided on the card. At first, we were going to get a CM to give it to them, but I decided to tuck it in a little display at Goofy's house and have Calder find it. The little $#*! caught me doing it and ran over to pull it out of my hiding spot. (Darn! Up to that moment, we had both boys convinced that we had nothing to do with the treasure hunt! Oh, well.)
We had one more special FP to use and decided to end our day at Autopia. Even with the FP, the wait was about 25 minutes, but I enjoyed the queue. (I wonder if they've themed it up a little more for Cars...?)
The boys wanted to do Space Mountain and Karen and I wanted to get something from the shop there, so we headed that way. I got another pack of the collectible figures and found MINNIE as Princess Leia -- another SCORE!! (The pair are sitting above my laptop as I write! )
At this point, the boys were desperate for their prizes and were practically pulling us to the lockers on Main Street. Karen and I were dragging our feet -- we knew this signalled the end of our time together!!
We got to the lockers and the boys opened theirs to find two golden treasure boxes filled with candy and real pirate gold (this cool coin from a sunken ship that Karen had.)
The other fun tidbit is that there was a little envelope for Calder. It said "Hey, congratulations on the tooth. I thought I'd take care of this for the Tooth Fairy. Tinker Bell." In it was a Disney Dollar. (Calder found this totally awesome and wants to make sure we thank her at WDW -- I can just see us now, poised under her "path" all prepared to yell our thanks! )
Well... that was it. It was over now. Karen and Zack had to get on the road to get home in time for school and work the next day. Karen and I valiantly held back tears -- or almost held them back. Hugs and kisses everywhere and tearful waves followed them out of the park.
<sigh>
Calder wanted to head into the Magic Shop and we followed him. I saw a self-inflating Whoopie Cushion and knew I'd scored my dad's gag birthday gift. (It was a total hit! )
We walked out of the park and headed back to the hotel. At the never-ending light, Calder asked for his golden treasure box. I looked at Bob and he was looking at me. Calder had put it down in the Magic Shop, assuming that M&D would pick it up. Yikes... I sent the boys back to retrieve it while I continued on to the hotel.
When they returned, Bob packed up his stuff and got ready to leave for the airport. Calder and I waved him off from the parking lot and headed to Millie's for dinner. Then it was back to the room for an early night of sleep.
Nothing much of interest happened after this point -- we took the Disneyland Resort Express shuttle back to LAX the next morning and headed back to our regular lives. Except this....
On the flight back, I suddenly yelped! "I know what Pluto was trying to say!!" Calder looked at me like I was nuts, but he indicated that I should offer up my guess. "He was telling us that he had to march in the parade at Disneyland!"
And I know I'm right!
