Major pixies needed please [updated 4/3, post #306] - Page 18 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). Joanne as a frequent flyer in the cath lab (I started to count the number of trips but stopped at 12 and never got to my longest hospital stay, I can assure anyone who needs to go, the procedures are not bad and they give good meds (fentanyl among others) I would rather go for a cath than go for an eye exam.
The modern way to do a cardiac catherization is to go through the wrist. It eliminates the need to lie flat after the procedure. My wrist doesn't work so mine are either through the groin or neck but always much easier than an eye exam.
Huntermom, that’s actually reassuring to hear that caths are easier than eye exams. Thank goodness for good meds! Sorry you have so much first hand knowledge though!
So with all the other stuff happening last week with Lenny's heart, I never did get back here to update you on his leg. While at the hospital, Lenny was able to move about the room without the crutches or a walker - but it was a small room and there was plenty of stuff to grab onto but he did it without anything else so I do think he's getting close. He was suppose to go back this Thursday, the 1st, but we had contacted the Orthopedic doctor last Monday. For some reason, his assistant was really on the ball as we got all the paperwork we needed not only in a timely manner but with correct dates. I sent all of that off to where it needed to go and on Friday we heard back from Home Depot that his leave has been extended to March 23rd - the date the doctor requested as it's our next follow up appointment. I haven't heard back yet about his short term disability but the way they do things, I'm not worried.
I really don't think (and really hope) that he's still not home then as it does seem like he's getting close to walking again. I don't think last week will set him back any as he really wasn't given restrictions but that's where we are health wise.

I haven't updated here in a while so now's a good time. First up - mom. Mom is doing well after her wrist surgery. She says the doctor told her no restrictions whatsoever and she's taken that to heart. We got 4 or 5 inches of snow on Sunday morning and she went out and actually used the snowblower. She said her wrist got tired but didn't hurt any worse than it had before. There are some things she really can't do (lift the 30 pound bag of dog food for example) that she will ask me or Abby to help her with but for the most part, she's asking for very little help. I didn't expect anything different from her.
Now onto Lenny. He's getting there and I don't expect him to be back to work before the short term disability runs out on March 5th but I really think that he can go back for 3/24 which is his expected return to work date. Hopefully the long term disability will kick in starting the 6th without any issues. Lenny is walking around the house more and more without the crutches and on Saturday, for the first time in a long time, he actually stood at the end of the register and bagged all our groceries (something he typically does - we don't like how the baggers bag our groceries). That is an accomplishment IMO as we did a "big" grocery week - that means the cart was basically overflowing and once bagged we ended up needing two carriages. Then yesterday, with some help from me, he had to fix our dryer as the heating unit broke and he hobbled around the basement looking for tools without the crutches. At night when he needs to use the bathroom, he's going without the crutches (the bedroom and the bathroom are both on the second floor of the house) so every little bit is improvement. I'm really hoping that when we have the next follow up on the 9th (we had to move it from the 23rd due to Abby's Special Olympics) we can finally get the "return to work authorization" paperwork filled in.
Lenny is also feeling good after his heart attack too but he'll go see his regular cardiologist next week. Lenny had made an appointment with the doctor who put in the stents as directed by the hospital staff. When he got there though, the doctor asked why Lenny made the appointment with him instead of his regular cardiologist. "I did what we were told at the hospital" was his response as I too was told that's who he needed to follow up with. So yeah, he'll go there next week
Other than that, things are moving along. Not at record breaking speeds but they're moving. I will continue to keep you updated though until the end of this whole thing. I think the end is finally in sight.
Any improvement is progress! Definitely seems like Lenny is doing much better. Glad to hear Mom's surgery was without complications. Sounds like things are finally going bettrer for you all. What events will Abby compete in? Please wish her good luck from us.

Thanks. For Abby, it's not the "traditional" Special Olympics where she has cetain events she competes in. The town we live in plus four surrounding towns came up with the "5 town Special Olympics Day games" and it's kind of like a field day. They have 8 different stations they move around to centered on one sport. I think this year it's soccer again - I think the first time they had people from the NE Revolution with the kids. Last year it was Football and they had "Gronk" from the Patriots there doing a drill with the kids. It's always a lot of fun but I will definitely tell her good luck for you.
Glad to hear your mom is doing well and Lenny is improving. Here's hoping things calm down for you.
We got the same instructions from the hospital after Dave's stents were placed. Then when we tried to get an appointment, that doctor wasn't available so they slotted us over to one of his partners whom we had never met. (and didn't like him either) Dave's back with his regular cardiologist.
