As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Spent a good deal of time doing some research Checking and rechecking travel routes and projected times to travel and assorted campgrounds on the way down and our first two stops are our best choices.
Camp Lake Jasper is stop 2 and we have a site near the dog park. Travel for the day to there should take approx. 5hrs and is all I-95. We know our stops and how long it takes to get to each. As we normally leave within 2 hours of waking up because of how far we will travel it's never been an issue. We've also never had an opportunity do more than cursory check of the campground. We never did any of the walking trails or been down to the lake something we really want to do. Happily they have a later check out time than most places. So as the KIDS love to wake us up before the sun, we will have time to see more of the grounds . More time here means less travel time for day 3.
Jacksonville's Flamingo Lake RV Resort and Lake city's Lake City RV Resort are both in our travel window as they are 3 or 4 hours away respective. Flamingo Lake has won out. With a 3 hr ride and a Walmart and Publix across the street for last minute shopping , a decent dog park and larger sites. Only problem is if we want to hit the cafe it is on the other side of the property. Still access to 295 is just 500 yards away and I-10 is just a few miles beyond that . An hour on 10 and we hit I 75 to I-4 and we are there. Hoping that with all the diagnosis work I have done for the few problems we have come across will make these repairs very short work.
Sounds like it’s all coming together!! I hope all goes well with the RV repairs!
Repairs are underway. I took care of light in bathroom and drawer locks for under booth seating are ordered with likely more time needed to align correctly than install. Satellite dish getting handled by our local people Shades for now some VELCRO to keep in down position
Three weeks from now we will be on the road . Reservations have been made for stopovers along the way. Decide against super short run to Flamingo Lake as they claimed I never cancelled with them last year and want for 2nd and 3rd night we booked not just loss of deposit despite forwarding our emails about that and their responses In stead we will try a place in Lake City Fla. near a National Park where on our way to Tampa where Lucille saw a Black Bear from the highway. But we like to try new places and it meets our needs this trip.
Lazy Day does offer a variety of seminars most free along with a Drivers Confidence course (free to those who purchased a unit from them) that we intend to take advantage of during our stay . Lucille was not happy when I signed her up for Driving Class as well as myself. Just waiting for Dec Schedule to come out and see what else might be worth hitting
Tee Time Golf cart has been confirmed and their Office Mgr Kelly keeping an eye for a free 6 pax one for us 4 pax works but Lucille believes 6 would be better with the GIRLS
Important ADR's are made as have most FP selections Now to just make it through the next 3 weeks

Dave they don't call these things Land Yachts for nothing. The day you buy one you start shopping for your next one and the offer all sorts of new gizmos and gadgets in a wide variety of campers eye catching colors. Add to that so many of the components now have micro processors in them something is always a bump away from needing replacing Still have high hopes foe this one and can't wait to take for a good shake down cruise to seek help when a problem does come up

Definitely, Mike and like anything else you buy or hobby you get involved with there is so much more you can add to enhance the experience. They are always there to do this for you and so you can spend more!

Yesterday over on DISBOARDS someone posted the Movie and Activities Calendar for Ft W and has caused some discontent in our little band. For Christmas Eve we have The Candle Light Processional Booked and Lucille says, " NO WAY ARE WE GIVING THAT UP!" WookieBear is very upset over that. It seems she heard that what others mistakenly call the "Holiday Golf Cart Parade" is actually "The Ride of Shame" She has decided that if I was going to adorn our GC with lights and ribbons and then FORCE her to ride in it She was going to make sure I was caught in my flagrant disregard for the rules of proper decorum and forced to participate. To insure I went she and Katie would escort me to the start and through out the route. Lucille and Sky had agreed to endure the shame only to see to it that I got my come uppence. Happily we will be in EPCOT having Dinner in Chef's de France as the ROS TAKES OFF
Christmas day we had thunked about the campfire program and movie only the Movie is THE SANTA CLAUSE only we have seen it so often we have no real interest in it.
NYE that program cancelled with a Major Dance Party on the Beach as replacement Happily we had planned to hit the Party later in the evening but may shift some things around and go earlier
Plans look good for Xmas and NYE. I hope you enjoy Chef's as much as I did last year.
