A Walk in the Parks: A Cam and Fam TR COMPLETED 12/22/16 - Page 18 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I love the Festival of Fantasy parade and you got some great pictures. I'm sorry Luke's back is bothering him. It's no fun aching when you have all that walking at WDW. Hopefully the rain wasn't too bad.
Love the parade photos. It's such a great parade, and I agree with you, I think it's my favorite afternoon parade. I definitely notch out a place in our touring schedule for it. I'm even planning to let the baby miss the afternoon nap in the room to see it.

I don't usually watch parades but this parade has such wonderful colors in it!!! Sounds like you had a fun time together at the MK Hope the rain didn't last long. Glad your dad seems to be doing better!
Great photos of the parade and covered do well with so many great closeups! Looked like a great time and I love this parade as I caught it on my last trip back in 2014! Was there any fire from the dragon as I don't see any in your photos?
I have a zoom lens that helps with the close ups. The dragon did breath fire, but it was just up from our spot and for me behind a light fixture. I saw it but could capture it with the camera.

He was quite the trooper, but he paid for it when we got home. The rain was gone by the time we exited PotC.

Great parade photos! Hope Luke's back starts to feel better soon.
Unfortunately, his back took quite a bit of time to heal. But he is better now.

We just all move so well as a group, and enjoy so much of the same stuff. Dad let me know a little while ago that he has had a good day.

NEXT: The Churros Were Good but the Fondue Was Beyond Yummy – Just Ask Morgan
Part 3: Sunday, October 2
The rain had cleared out while we rode Pirates of the Caribbean, so we easily made our way from the ride to the bus stop. Next -- Heading to Disney Springs. Once at Disney Springs, we split up for about an hour. Morgan wanted to shop at Sephora while Luke and I headed to Pandora to see about cleaning my necklace which was already tarnishing probably from all my sweatiness in the Florida humidity. My necklace was taken to the back and cleaned with a polishing cloth. Evidently, Disney Pandora stores do not have the cleaning machines. While there I purchased another polishing cloth to have when we travel. [Note: The first Saturday we were back I attended a volunteer appreciation party where we played Bunco. I had never played before, but managed to get a Bunco two times. Each time a clothes pin was clipped to my top. Unfortunately, when I removed it for the next person to earn a Bunco, I didn’t realize that the chain was caught in it. When I pulled the clothes pin off and up, it broke the chain. I took it later that afternoon to a jeweler I trust and a few days later it was perfectly whole again and he had even cleaned it thoroughly. So now it is shiny new again! ]
Then we went to Lego to see if a Lego castle was available. No luck. Moving on to World of Disney, we still didn't find a castle, but a cast member at information checked everywhere she could think of, including the airport Disney Store, but it appeared to be out of stock everywhere. [Note: We never did find the Lego castle again while at WDW, but a few days after we got back, I checked the Shop Parks app and discovered that it was available. The app even gave us the AP discount, so we ordered it and in a few more days the Lego castle appeared at our door. It arrived on early on a Friday morning, something like 7:30 AM. We were still in bed when the doorbell rang over and over. Luke jumped up, wondering who could be at the door. The Fedex delivery guy let Luke know that the castle is so popular that Disney requires a signature before delivery can be made. We never knew Fedex delivered so early. ] While we were in WoD, I did find a baseball cap that I liked in an olive khaki green. So we headed to a cashier to check out.
As we were leaving the store, June called to see where we were. They were already waiting at Morimoto Asia, so we joined them there. When we got there, we still had a few minutes before we could check in. Luke spied a nearby PhotoPass photographer just a few feet away in a spot right by the new springs that would fill up some of the time.
But it didn’t quite fill up all the time. So we went over and looked at the menu and pretty much picked out what we each wanted to eat once we were seated. John Paul really wanted the filet mignon, but June told him no because it was too expensive. He looked pretty much like this. Then I remembered we were the ones paying for JP’s meals. So now he was more like .
Eventually, we were within our ADR window, so we headed inside. I checked us in and gave them my cell number at reception. The policy here is to text when they are ready to seat guests. We made a quick trip to the restrooms so the Vaughns could see the funny photos that line the walls in both the men’s and women’s rooms.
From there June and John went to the bar to order drinks, while Luke, the kids, and I waited near the front.
We didn’t have to wait too long until we were taken to a round table on the left about midway along the outside wall. Note the hidden Mickey on the wall next to our table.
We could see the kitchen from our table, and the view created a bit of humor when John told us that he first thought the ducks on display were naked men.
Drinks ordered: Luke had a Diet Coke and I had a Fresh Lemonade that was truly fresh and a wee bit tart just like I like it. John Paul had Adam’s Ale (water), June a drink from the bar (I’ve failed to write the name down), and John a Draft Kirin. Morgan had a fancy mocktail called Blushing Dragon which she let me sip. Delish!
The Vaughns love sushi so they ordered Spicy Tuna (tuna, spicy mayo, scallions with white rice), Spider (tempura soft shell crab, spicy mayo, asparagus with choice of white rice), and California Roll (blue crab meat, avocado, cucumber with choice of white rice). Neither Luke nor I usually like raw fish, but we did try the California Roll, finding it quite tasty and this particular one a little spicy, too. Evidently, we were too hungry to wait for a sushi photo.
Now entrees – you already know John Paul got the Mongolian Filet Mignon (wok sautéed scallions, enoki mushrooms, sweet Szechuan pepper sauce poured tableside). He was sweet enough to share with everybody, and it was awesome. No a scrap of beef was left. At one point he told his dad to just cut the rest of it up that he was going to eat it all. My favorite line at dinner was John Paul's “I'm too full to bend over.”
Sorry this was blurry, but JP was anxious to eat.
Morgan and I both had the Morimoto Chicken Fried Rice (chicken, egg, scallion, sesame), which made the version I make at home seem very amateur.
John chose the Morimoto Shrimp Fried Rice (shrimp, egg, scallion, sesame).
Luke got the same dish as he got in May because he loved it, Kung Pao Chicken (carrots, shimeji, mushroom, bell pepper, bamboo shoot, cashew nut, and stir-fried with spicy Szechuan sauce). He still loved it.
June picked the Basil Fried Rice (egg, bell peppers, bean sprouts, scallion, and spicy house sambal sauce).
Initially, Luke and I thought we’d skip dessert, but Morgan had seen churros on the dessert menu and wanted to try them. She’d never had them before, but her friends had talked about them, making her think she would like them. So she got Churro Fondue (housemade churros, nutella, vanilla cream). Now the Nutella is housemade and comes in a tube. Our waiter realized how much she was loving it. Her sucking the last bits out of the tube might have been the giveaway. He brought her a second tube, which June confiscated because she wanted to save it until they got back home. I heard it barely made it there. Sorry the Vaughns dove into the churros – no photo.
Luke and I shared the same dessert we had in May, the Chocolate Cream & Crunch (Oreo tempura, mandarin orange jelly, dark chocolate gelato, hazelnut chocolate crunchies). And it was still sublime. Deep fried Oreos are so good!
A few outside shots after Morgan and JP noticed all the hidden Mickeys.
The food was great all the way around, but the best part was just being with family, laughing and talking, and reflecting on the day. It was obvious by the end of dinner though that we were all tired. We waited in line for a boat back to the resort. The wait for the boat turned out to be quite long. But we were in Disney so only a wee bit bad. My feet did not enjoy the standing.
By the time we were back in the room everyone was dragging, so we were quick to get ready for bed. Lights were out about 10:30 or so. What a wonderfully fun day!
It sounds like you enjoyed Morimoto Asia about as much as we did. Love all those Photopass pics and I'm glad you were able to get your necklace cleaned and get the LEGO castle in the end.
Sounds like a great night at Disney Springs! I'm glad you finally got the Lego castle, but I can't believe Fed Ex was at your house so early for delivery!!
