Living the dream and remembering the Bagman LIVE UPDATE 10/2 - Page 18 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

You see, this is how well Team GB is doing - it was amazing to get a silver, but I don't class that as a victory, as we didn't get gold... although my goodness, we ran the USA way closer than I ever thought possible!

Fun that you'll get to experience the Halloween festivities on your cruise!
Yes, one week until we meet in Southampton!!! Now that we've got Ryan settled in to his apartment (and spent obscene amounts of $$$ on Amazon today, all to avoid stores on campus) I'm ready to get home tomorrow to start MY packing!!! I'm working Monday and Tuesday, so time feels very tight to me right now.
I bet! Wow, sounds like that was quite the day. I bet you can't wait to get your vacation straight, now you've sorted out the rest of the family.

Hope you've gone back to bed now!
Just surfaced half an hour ago at 9:00am our time - we stayed up until 3:30am (Mark eventually came down to join me) and I went back to sleep about half an hour later. I'm so glad we don't have work today and I don't have work tomorrow, Tuesday or Friday so can do the same thing three more times this week...
I'm with you, I"m very disappointed in Disney...everything is costing, and costing more and more. I understand Disney is a business, but lately they've become overly so and sometimes I feel the chase of the $$ is overtaking the Disney feel. EVERYTHING is 'under construction' and turning into either Frozen or Star Wars...which I love, don't get me wrong, it just seems if it's not one of the two of these things, they fade away.
And don't get me started on their ability to get hours of things out when they are forcing us all into overplanning our vacations! I'm STILL waiting to see if Kylo Ren and Chewie will be out when we are there in September...and JUST found out the time of the Star Wars fireworks in September
Yeah for Halloween on the High Seas!! Will you be dressing up? We received an email thru our TA that they have a costume contest with the following categories: Best Group, Most Disney, Most Original and Most Spooky. Told my son we are in the running for most Disney with our UP costumes and I got the typical teenage eyeroll.

Oh you just put it so well! We all know and have always known Disney is a business, but they've never made it as obvious as over the last couple of years, which I think is a real shame.

I know - I found those this morning... finally! I don't think we'll see the Star Wars meets. I haven't re-checked them today, but the last time I looked they were something like 11:00am - 4:00pm for the Sunday when we'll be at the Studios. Well, frankly we won't be at the Studios during those hours, so we'll just miss out.

We won't be. Halloween is becoming a bigger celebration over here, but it's still nothing like the States and they won't have much stuff out before we leave, so much as I like the idea, it just won't be happening.
Finally!! I've caught up on this. Such a big trip, and so much planning.
We basically did your Canada trip just a month ago in July! Please let me know if you have questions - more than happy to help you out there!!
Ugh, Disney and their lack of information with AK at night. It's so frustrating. And just today - they've finally announced the park staying open till 8:30 or 9pm at night now for September.
Fun to read the development of your trip though as it's pretty much what we all go through!

A little Olympics update as your own Justin Rose won the gold for golf! Congrats to GB! Silver for Henrik Stenson of Sweden and Matt Kuchar of USA with bronze.
Interview with Matt Kuchar as he was very emotional and so honored to be able to experience this and represent the USA and medal in the event. He's one of the better golfers around and seems really decent!

Yep, I saw that - but still nothing as far as any night-time entertainment goes...

And about half an hour earlier, Team GB took its first ever gold medal in gymnastics, when Max Whitlock won on floor - unbelievable evening so far!

I too am totally disappointed with Disney for all this additional, expensive experiences. It's not like going to Disney is a cheap vacation from the start. How exciting that you all will be experiencing the Halloween fun at sea.
I'm in agreement with you all on the extra expenses that Disney seems to be adding on to things. I'm not interested in buying into EMH for an additional expense for sure. I also think they're pricing out a lot of families when it comes to the Halloween and Christmas Party nights. So glad that you decided to get your tickets for Cirque du Soleil’s Paramour show in New York City! It sounds like the VIP ticket has some nice perks to it! Halloween on the High Seas should be a fun time! Are you going to bring a costume to dress up into for it?

Very much so! We are calling it Spectacular Sunday, following Super Sunday at London 2012, when Jess Ennis (as she was then), Greg Rutherford and Mo Farah all won gold in less than an hour at the athletics. Yesterday, we scooped a total of five gold medals, including our first ever two in gymnastics - just amazing to watch history being made like that!

Not at all. I appreciate they are all added extras, but they're also things that a lot of us would like to do if they had a cheaper price tag to them....

Oh they are and I keep wondering what Walt would think of all of this.... yes, Disney is a business and he got that, but the idea was that he wanted a place where families could come and enjoy themselves together. I don't think that's really the case for the seasonal parties any longer now.

It seems to have and for less than Disney would charge for it...

Probably not... it's not about the space in the suitcase, it's the fact it's so tough trying to get any sort of costume over here. We just really aren't that into Halloween as a country....
