A Magical Frozen Norwegian Adventure updated 07/28/2015 - Page 18 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm all caught up, and enjoying your photos and descriptions! Sorry Wade had a tough time with his blood sugar on the trip over. Those long flights are bad enough without an added health issue. Wonderful tour of Copenhagen. Such a beautiful city! Kind of a shame you happened to be there on a holiday and had such crowds everywhere, but it still looks like you got a great overview of the sights, including Tivoli. And now you're on board! That little video really captures how cold and windy it was on deck! Not quite the same as being in the Caribbean! The ship looks great, though, and it sounds like you're in for a great cruise.

Your photos of Copenhagen looked vaguely familiar (snicker, snicker)... glad your transfer went well and easily. I noticed that the last night our our cruise - they were selling Norway Inaugural stuff, and that it was available for the Baltic cruise that left right after ours... maybe Disney underestimated demand. Sorry to hear about the chargers!!
Your day at sea looked very familiar to ours - except we had ZERO sun (although we had kids in the pools every single day).
It was a great day---until the unfortunate discovery.

Looks like the folks in the pool were sticking to the hot tubs. Still, you have to get out of the water at some point! BRRRRR!
Glad you have your chargers quite secure. Most were indeed in the hot tub, but still...

Thanks. I do love my camera. It works so well for me, the non-photographer.

Definitely not a pool day for me either.

I too had my stateroom on deck 7, but mid-ship. It looked just a bit brisk out on the decks!
I love mid ship, but the ocean views are not located there, only verandahs, I believe.

It was a good first day on board. We just stayed inside, so all was well.
What a great start to your vacation!
Sorry about the charger!
It was a great start, for the most part.

I'm so glad you are back with us, Laurie. The first few days were good, even if it was crowded. We were able to get past the jet lag, so we could enjoy the trip.

I saw your pictures on Facebook and thought the same thing. I guess the selling of the apparel on the earlier cruises would help explain the short supply of things. Oh, well, I did get some things, so all is good. Those kids are really stalwart, aren't they? They seem to be impervious to the cold.
It's time to get this next day underway, so off we go! This first part is rather short, but it is a beginning.
June 8
Today we are in Stavanger (sta-von'-ger. with a hard g). It has been a joke on board about how to pronounce the names of these Norwegian cities. In addition to this lovely port, we are being entertained by a beach volleyball tournament in the dock area. There is imported sand with man-made beaches. I'll have to say that I haven't seen any bikinis!
These pictures were all taken from the ship or right beside the ship.
Nice photos of Stavanger as the town looks so picturesque! Still a bit chilly there, by the way you're bundled up!

Stravanger is a really quaint port. Hard to believe that it is Norway's 3rd largest city (then again - Oslo is smaller than Jacksonville, FL... so maybe its not that hard to believe).

It was a bit chilly in the mountains, but not too bad in town. The wind was quite strong up in the hills.

The mountains were indeed stunning, and the late spring left us a lot of snow to see.

3rd largest? Wow! Norway's cities are small, aren't they?

Wade and I had different tours today. I had an early one for the Lysefjord (loo-sah fjord) to Pulpit Rock, while Wade was doing the Viking sailing ship. I had to meet my group at 8:15 while his meet up was at 11:30.
I headed out to board the ship and we all cracked up when we saw the ship's name--Fjordfart! Enough said! It actually means “fjord speed.”
The weather was mid 50's and cloudy. There were even a few sprinkles in the area. Our ship did have an enclosed bottom seating area, with an open top for viewing. The bottom had large glass windows, so it was possible to take pictures there. I stayed inside for quite a while visiting with a nice couple from Orlando. He is retired from Disney accounting.
We passed some oilrigs
and the petroleum museum and learned a lot about the importance of the oil industry in Norway.
We even saw a playground made completely of recycled oil products. Gabriel, our dinner server, told us how the CM's had a ball playing there on their last visit to the port.
The government has even been smart enough to put back a large percentage of the money (no one knows how much it truly is) to have when the oil boom finally dies down. They don’t want to go back to the economy as it was before the boom.
We also saw a lot of salmon farms in the waters. They have to be mobile, so they can be moved because of algae in the water and other issues, such as storms. Salmon is a big industry in Norway and we saw farms on almost all the water tours we took.
We had a great trip, and I did eventually move to the top deck for a number of pictures. It was quite brisk up there when the ship was moving at speed. The captain did slow down to almost a complete stop when we were at popular photo stops. Nicely the weather also began to clear for us as the morning wore on.
I particularly like the lighting in this photo.
And, finally, Pulpit Rock
Can you see the heart in the side of the mountain?
There is an area where they have some goats every year. This year there are 3 and they have named them Huey, Dewey and Louie.
Then we got quite up close and personal with this waterfall. The guide warned us before she headed back inside. He went right under it and then turned the boat all around so everyone got the "pleasure."
After our tour into the fjord, we stopped at a welcome center for Norwegian waffles with sour cream and jam. The sour cream was more like a whipped cream to most of us. Ummm, delicious!
What a nice tour you had this morning and loved the photos! The scenery within the fjords and the mountains are just breathtaking! I took a fjords cruise in New Zealand on Milford Sound on the south island some years ago and was equally amazing as I loved every bit of it!
