Sep 26-Oct 3: MNSSHP + Food & Wine + More: The PTR - Page 18 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Right there with you on the single digit dancing. I'm not so excited about the weather I'm seeing though. Oh, well, a wet day at Disney is better than a dry day at home. I'll just have to stock up on ponchos!
Just got ALL caught up!!! LOL
WOW!!! Fantastic plans...BEAUTIFUL Photos!! I can't wait for your trip report!!!
Thank you very much.

Yes - it's a bit odd. We are still trying to confirm.

That is a bit odd, regarding the funeral. Perhaps, it may be a memorial service as those are sometimes planned farther ahead?
Yes, it makes sense if it is a Memorial Service, but we are still confused.

Yay for your trip too! I hear you on the weather. I'm ok with some rain, but seriously thinking of postponing the Wild Africa Trek to one of our trips in the first half of next year.
We left Maine early this morning for our flight to South Florida. I thought we were leaving yesterday, but I was confused. We had a pick-up arranged for 5am to take us to the Bangor Airport which is about an hour away. The driver was 20 minutes late and drove like a snail, but we made our flight.
The two pups were dazed and confused at our early awakening - here they are napping on the ottoman as we wait for our ride:
Friends are staying at the house with the dogs; I imagine they enjoyed lots of doggie kisses when I let the dogs into their bedroom as we were leaving
I usually avoid photos from the plane, but will make an exception for the New York skyline. These were all taken with my iPhone. We landed at LaGuardia, and had about 90 minutes before departing to West Palm Beach. We had no issues with flights, although it was bumpy flying into Florida.
It's been awhile since I've flown - I was rather amazed by all the iPads setup in the waiting areas. You could order coffee or food, swipe your credit card, and someone would bring your order to you. All it was missing was a red rose.
It was 35 degrees F when we left the house in Maine this morning. It was 85 when we arrived in Florida. We had a brief thunderstorm at 3pm, but it's clear now - just a bit on the humid side
Glad the flight went well! Too bad your driver doesn't know how to tell time and drove like he did! Those are some nice photos of NYC on the approach to LaGuardia.

Too bad the driver wasn't 20 mins early so you could enjoy that waiting area at the airport. I've never seen that! The dogs look very upset that you're leaving. They don't get sad and clingy when they see suitcases?

Oh well, I think the driver knows how small the Bangor Airport is, so he didn't see any need for speed...

There's not much to see at Bangor. We arrived at 6:25am for our 7am flight. Time to get at the end of security (which is at the gate), then walk right on the plane.
The dogs are very used to going with us, so they don't get too upset. We tricked them - we had no suitcases since we have clothes in Florida already. Our friends said Stitch was unhappy and stayed by their door until they got up. They had to take him to our room to show we weren't there

Glad you made it to FL so easily. Your pix of the side trip are very good. That chipmunk was nice to pose so well. Looking forward to meeting you on Friday evening.
Glad everything went smoothly with your flight, and that you have arrived safely in warm FL
Thanks, Jenn.

Thanks, Lisa. The waiting area was hi tech.

Looking forward to Friday, too.
Not Much to Update
Only update I have is ordering Memory Maker. In the past, I only ordered Photopass when we traveled with the kids. So now, I get MM so we can get a bunch of photos with me with almost no hair . The irony doesn't escape me, but this is a longer trip for us and I also want to check out that technology.
I've been gently letting Lou in on the plans. Yesterday I said, "you don't mind going on the Wild Africa Trek, do you (and refreshed his memory about what it is)? Half listening, he said, "No, that's fine. But when are we going to the Hollywood Place - I've never been there..." I responded with "Tuesday, and you've never been because you didn't want to go ..."
This is progress - he's open to trying some new things. I have to smile when I read PTRs like Cam's and Coop's, where their spouse is very involved with the planning. I know there are many more where the situation is the same as mine
EDIT: It's 11am in South Florida and we are getting sideways rain. It will probably only last for 10 minutes, but highlights the fact that weather will be our biggest variable. I'm just hoping it doesn't impact fireworks on multiple evenings.
My DH is so clueless on any vacation planning, that it is a chore at times for me. I'm in the last minute get everything done so I can travel and leave the clueless one to run the house. Poor puppies! Oh, well, WDW I'm on my way, and sending weather pixies out to the gods and anyone who can help us.
