Mad as a Hatter or Fidel Goes to Disney Trip Report Complete 9/27/10 - Page 18 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Ooooh, I love Disney trivia. There are 10 water based attractions:
In the MK there is JC,POC, Splash,Riverboats. IASW (and rafts to TSI but you said not to count those).
In EP there is Malestrom,LWTL, Fiesta ride (and the Friendship boats, but not really a ride so they don't count).
In AK there is KRR.
Also all the boats betw the boardwalk area resorts and parks. But once again those are not attractions.
Your meal sounded great, except for the non-listening waiter. That is one thing a waiter/waitress must do to give great service, LISTEN! Glad it wasn't too bad.
Can't wait to hear about the laughter!
Okay so I hope I dont get that waiter for our dinner in a few months! The food did sound really good and I'm excited to eat there again! Its been awhile since i've eaten there.
sounds like the parks were VERY crowded! I do illuminations too It is so moving to watch!
I cannot wait to hear all about the funny story
Wow, you really did have a lot of confusion going on with the Waiter at Chef's. But glad that you still were able to get it sorted out and enjoy your meal.
Wow - sorry about the selective hearing from your waiter!
But, it all sounds very yummy! And I think your total bill was great for 3 people!
I am really looking forward to your next update!
Welcome back Heather. Wow all caught up Heather. Glad to hearthey've added more food concessions at MSY. I know the last time we flew out of there it was quite limited (good thing we ate a late Lunch at The Come Back Inn in Metairie before heading to the Airport). So sorry to hear you were still waiting for your room to be ready. Your lunch and fans looked delish. Sorry to hear about your inattentive waiter at LCdF. Can't wait to hear about your hilarious story in your next post.

Your waiter reminds me of the one we've had twice now at Le Cellier (Mo) who seems to be either ditsy or just practices selective listening as you've mentioned Great deal on your meals! Since we get to use our TiW for 2 trips, this year's savings were truly savings. Love that card!
I'm not sure how funny this will be in the retelling, but I'll tell you my sides were splitting as it was happening! After riding El Rio de Tiempo . . . ahh Gran Fiesta--I still miss the old version and Spaceship Earth, we headed over to Mission Space. Blake had forgotten his room key and the girl at the door was arguing with a family, whose 7 year old didn't have their room key. "Everyone in the room was issued a key, everyone must show their key." Really? Come on now--a small child doesn't have their key and you aren't going to let the family on the ride. She was so concerned with this 7 year old not being a resort guest that we scooted right around her and grabbed orange passes from the other CM at the ride! (Who didn't ask to see our room keys at all!) We were already giggling at this point!
The ride was a walk on and we headed up through the queue and right up to the loading area. The gentleman in front of us must have had beans for dinner at San Angel Inn. More giggling. We got loaded into our row and settled in to watch the preshow with Gary. I have to tell you that he creeps me out a little bit. I just can't get Psycho out of my head as he's talking. As he's telling us about our mission I imagine a huge knife being pulled from behind his back--especially when he goes over to the "safety" intern!
After the preshow we waited a bit, and then waited some more. I told the boys they probably had to clean up a protein spill. It took a minute for them to catch on! Then the light bulbs went on over two very tall heads!
Mission Space seats 4 people to one X-2 trainer. We only had 3 and our loading CM had not found a single rider. When we lined up I was in the Engineer seat, Brandon was the Commander, and Blake was the Pilot. Blake was very excited that he was going to get to drive! We were lacking a Navigator. This all changed when we loaded into our X-2. The harness for the Engineer seat had been locked down. I guess they know when fewer people are being loaded in. I ended up in the Commander seat, Brandon as the Pilot and Blake as the Navigator. Blake was upset, but hopped right into character. "What are we going to do without an Engineer, Heather you are going to have to carry the load. We need you to do both jobs or we're going to fail the mission."
As we blasted off, Blake continued--about how he didn't think he was going to make it--the pressure was just too much. Very dramatic--Brandon and I were falling down laughing--okay not falling down, but you get the idea. Then there was commentary on the reality of hyper sleep and how much Blake had enjoyed his three month nap. His favorite hobby is sleeping! We all accomplished our first tasks, no problem, all buttons pushed, including the Engineer button, but when it came time for the second task . . . Blake started reaching over and pushing Brandon's buttons as well as his own. I believe the commentary was about commandeering the ship! I was laughing too hard to accurately remember what was actually said.
Then it came time for the missing Engineer's task. Blake yelled, "Push the button Heather." I stretched and stretched but it was no use. I responded, in a very dramatic fashion, " I. Can't. Reach. The. Button." Hilarity ensued. "We're going to crash, what were they thinking sending us up here without an Engineer. Oh no, you two have screwed up enough, I'm going to drive this thing! Here we go!" Blake managed to land us on the edge of a cliff.
I don't think I've ever had so much fun on Mission Space!
We then were herded into the gift shop, where we stopped for pictures. Fidel went to Mars!
Then he stopped off in Mousegeers!
We looked at the wait time for Test Track and the single rider line was at 30 minutes and the regular line was almost an hour so we decided to call it a night. We'd be back in the morning for more fun!
Don't worry, Heather... This is hilarious! I've never ridden MS but can picture the whole scene! What great and entertaining traveling companions you had, and you're pretty entertaining yourself.
