2 Year Anniversary PTR September 2010 - Page 18 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I truly love the trivia about The fish you mentioned from Finding Nemo as that was my favorite Fish in the tank. Actually I used to have one in my Salt Water Aquarium(ok I miss my Royal Gramma). Those fish are gorgeous. Glad you're having fun. Have fun at your Family Reunion.
I'm glad you liked the trivia for Finding Nemo! I liked that one. There was a big ole list to choose from, but I chose that one because it seemed funny to me that they never used his name during the movie. Lol.
I got home from work and was SOOOOoooo excited to see Disney Mail sitting on the table! We got our Disney's Magical Express stuff and the vouchers and things they send to you before your trip. I am going to pre-order our PhotoPass c.d. too, since they sent me one to register. (I had forgotten that I meant to do it anyway, but this was my reminder. Gotta love Disney!)
I am so excited. I know that I keep saying that, but it's like I can't stop! I guess I'm wacko.
I had fun this last weekend at my family reunion. My great-uncle Jack and great-aunt Ann brought their boat, and we all rode on this three seated inner-tube behind it while they pulled us. At one point, my cousin Jonathan, my husband David, and I were all riding it. Jonathan was in the middle and yells "Jess, let's do no hands!" So I dutifully put my hands up in the air...right as we hit the wake of a Jet-ski, and Jonathan bounced right into my seat and bounced me out of the inner-tube. What a putz! Then again, he's turning 15 in October, so he's supposed to be a putz. I think I had more fun falling out than I did riding it anyway.
So anyway, that's the only real story I have to tell from this weekend that I think everyone would find amusing.
We are now 34 days out, so once again I have an awful lot of trivia to post. Bear with me!
#38 Honey I Blew Up the Kid
Much of the the dialogue between Mr. Szalinski and little Adam, such as the bedtime story and feeding time, was improvised by Rick Moranis in response to whatever Daniel Shaklikar and Joshua Shalikar, the twins who played Adam, happened to say.
#37 Honey We Shrunk Ourselves
This was the last live-action movie Rick Moranis did before leaving acting.
#36 Hercules (Yes, I know this is out of sequence. My darling husband watched it and didn't put it back in the right spot. So now I'm just throwing it in here so we don't miss it completely. It should have been number 39.)
Phil's line "Don't let your guard down because of a pair of big goo-goo eyes" was originally "Don't let your guard down because of a pair of big, blue eyes". Unfortunately, by the time the scene was in color, Meg's eyes were purple.
#35 The Incredibles
Helen Parr (Elastigirl) is exceptionally accurate with her use of radio protocol while flying. "VFR on top" indicates she is flying in the regime of Visual Flight Rules 'on top' of a cloud cover. She then requests vectors to the "initial", the initial landing approach. "Angels 10" is her altitude call - ten thousand feet. "Track east" is her current direction of travel from her current position. Her "buddy-spiked" mayday is US Air Force code, as a warning not to fire, given to an aircraft who has radar lock on a friendly - in this case, Helen was referring to the missiles she thought were fired by friendlies. "Transmitting in the Blind Guard" is a call on the emergency frequency where 2-way communication has not been established.
#34 The Jungle Book
Just after Mowgli runs away and Bagheera is trying to convince Col. Hathi to look for him, Hathi's wife Winifred announces if they don't help find him, she will take command of the herd. Hathi is outraged at the thought of a female leading. The joke is that elephants herds are led by a matriarch (female), while adult males generally live alone. As the only apparent female in the herd, Winifred should be leading by default.
Also, on a sadder note, Walt Disney passed away prior to the release of this film, while it was still in production. This was the 19th animated film in Disney's animated features canon, and the final feature which was personally supervised by Walt Disney himself.
So we are all caught up on our trivia again. This is a good thing. With only 34 days to go, I am feeling like I REALLY need to start finishing my list. The only problem is, most of it is stuff I can't do quite yet. I have to call to make that reservation at Margaritaville 30 days out from the day I want to eat there not from the day I get to Florida, so that isn't for another week or two. The rest of the stuff (other than pulling out money for tips) depends on something else being done first. The big thing that's bothering me is SeaWorld's show schedule still not being up for September.
Once I have that, I can print out my Travel Book and have it bound, because all my touring plans will be done. Argh! Frustration abounds in the land of Disney Preparations.
Anyway...at least I got my Disney paperwork today! Talk to you again tomorrow! (My computer seems to be working again, so hopefully I'll be able to update more regularly now.)
Glad you are enjoying your nicknames. That one just sort of came to me. It made David laugh when I told him I was educating my readers on the definition of trivia. He said it was "cute" that I felt the need. Lol!
Yes, I am enjoying them. I was cracking up when I read your reply of Miss Sparky and my DH, Pat, asked me what the heck I was laughing at...so I told him and he was your funny, freak! And then we both laughed.
Tell David you wouldn't have felt the need if I hadn't called you out on it, but since I did you had to tell me.

OMG I tubing! It's so fun! Sounds like you had a blast, even with falling off! I found that really funny and arent surprised your cousin is 15 and a boy, that tells it all! LOL
Yay!! 34 and 33 days, almost 30!!
Congrats on the Disney Mail and so glad to hear your Family Reunion was so much fun. Tubing is so much fun too(I haven't gone in a few years). Getting closer by the day!

Like I said, I think falling off was more fun than riding the tube.

Thanks, Cam. I love my family, and since most of them live kind of far away, it's good to see them at least once a year.
Walt Disney originally didn't want to include the 'Bella Note' spaghetti-eating scene, now one of the most iconic moments in the whole Disney canon.
Really nothing new to report, Disney-wise. I have yet to read through all my Disney Mail, because I've been so tired the last couple of days. I was working in the Dairy today, so I had to be at work early, and I only got a couple of hours of sleep.
Also, I still can't warm up! I like working back there though, because my day goes by faster when I have so much to worry about getting done. I have to keep the shelves stocked, put the "load" (the pallets with all the product on it that needs to go on the shelves) away, and still run up front when it gets busy to be a cashier. It makes for a busy day that goes by very quickly! I love it. Just a cold day. I always wear a sweatshirt and a WinCo Coat, and gloves, and I still get cold sometimes. Imagine standing in a refrigerator for 8 hours. Brrr!
Anyway. That's all for today. I'll be back on tomorrow to continue my Alphabetical Movie Trivia Countdown.

Try to think warm Disney thoughts while in that fridge. I am sure in 31 days you will be fondly remembering that coolness! LOL
Try to stay warm and 31 days!

I LOVE tubing, but that was only the second time I've ever gone. The 1st time, I was 14 and on a church trip down to Lake Shasta, CA. We stayed on houseboats for a week, but they brought a speedboat and we got to do the tubing. TON of fun.
The wagon atop the pile in the junkyard is the one that crashed and injured Trusty at the end of Lady and the Tramp.
#31 The Lion King
The song that Rafiki sings, 'Asante sana Squash banana, Wewe nugu mimi hapana' is Swahili for "Thank you very much, Squash banana, You're a baboon and I'm not." Simba asks, "What does that mean?" and Rafiki says, "It means you're a baboon and I'm not." This is a popular children's song similar to "Cinderella, dressed in yella" for example.
There was a TON of trivia stuff for The Lion King, I had SUCH a hard time choosing. If you are interested, you could go to The Internet Movie Database (search for it on Google and you'll find it), then search for "The Lion King" in the search bar. Scroll down until you see the "Trivia" link on the left. There was a whole PAGE of trivia there.
Anyway...when I get paid tomorrow I am going to pull my Mousekeeper Tips and Magical Express Driver Tips out of the bank to put in the envelopes. And I'll seal them up so I don't use them as spending money before I get down there. Having cash around seems to be dangerous. I use my debit card for pretty much everything.
Anyway. That's pretty much everything for now. Talk to you guys tomorrow!
I competely understand about the having cash around, I am the same way. In fact I have decided I am not doing anything with cash until at least Sept. 1st. I need to get a printer so I can make my envelopes.
