It's Five O'Clock Somewhere--Mother/Daughter Trip #3--UPDATED 5/14/09 - Page 18 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Hi everyone! I haven't forgot about this TR, but life has been extremely busy on the homefront, as well as work. I've gotten a few nudges from some fellow PPs (I wonder who! ) to get this completed so I hope to get an update tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for being patient with me.

We woke up around 7:00am and got ready pretty quickly. We were out the door and headed to the bus stop in front of the GCH. Mom was dressed to impress as always in the Disney patch shirt we made last year. I looked rather blah next to her but was extremely comfy. We caught the bus to AK and were through the turnstiles with plenty of time to make it to our ADR. With our extra time, we got a couple of Photopass pictures.
When we were deciding on our ADRs, Mom wanted to experience the new Tusker House character, so that is where we headed this morning. I got us checked in, and our name was called in less than five minutes. We bypassed the photo opportunity and were seated at a table for two. Our server came back quickly and poured us some frunch and got our other drink orders. She told us to go ahead up to the buffet, which is exactly what we did. Once we filled our plates, we headed back to our table just in time for the characters to arrive at our table. First to arrive was Donald, then Daisy, Mickey, and Goofy.
After the character meetings and the breakfast eating, we settled the bill and headed out to catch a safari. For once, I actually enjoyed the ride instead of having the camera up in front of my face. We didn’t get to see the lion but got some great views of the giraffes. Once we returned from our two week adventure, we headed over to Asia as Expedition Everest was calling our names. It was only showing a 15 minute stand-by wait so we just jumped in line. We passed the time chatting away and before we knew it, we were on our train headed up the mountain. I tried to grab a self-portrait on our way up but got us squinting majorly because of the sun.
Mom was itching for a ride on Primevil Hurl…I mean Whirl, so we headed over to Dinoland. She absolutely loves this ride for some reason and even though I could skip this ride, I did it for her. After we spun throughout time, mom decided that she had enough of AK. She didn’t want to see FOTLK or Nemo again and didn’t care to ride Dinosaur, so we made our way to the exit. On our way out, I saw the sign for the character greeting area for the Pooh characters. Well, I can’t seem to pass a chance up to see Eeyore, so we made our way down the trail. We had a minor wait but were hugging the gang before too long.
After saying good-bye to Eeyore, we finally made it to the exit but we were side-tracked once again by characters with no lines whatsoever. So we took 5 minutes to say hi to Meeko and Terk.
We finally headed to the bus stops and as we were walking, Mom proclaimed, “I wanna go shopping!” Mom’s wish is my command. She thought heading to DTD during the day would be less crowded than at night so we grabbed a bus to AKL and then transferred to a bus to DTD. It was a very short ride to AKL and this is the closest I have EVER been to AKL. Mom and Chuck have no interest in staying there or eating at Jiko/ Boma so I am destined to eat/stay there on a future solo trip or trip with some friends.
As we were getting off the bus at AKL, a bus for DTD was just pulling up. We easily walked on the bus and were headed downtown. Once we arrived at DTD, we headed into the Christmas shop first. After finally getting my Disney inspired Christmas tree, I was just oogling all of the ornaments and could have spent a pretty penny in here, but good sense prevailed as I walked out without even one. We then headed into the Under $10 store and mom found a puzzle for Pat (her SO) to put together with his granddaughter, and I found an address book for $5. Next was Pooh Corner/ Tails. Mom found a very colorful collar for Ana that she just HAD to get. Once again, I walked out with nada. Mom then took a bee line to the Pin Trader store. She was determined to find every possible jeweled pin made by Disney. She ended up buying about 5 pins while I bought a couple of the Hidden Mickey pouches. I got three of the five FP Hidden Mickey pins. While I was shopping, mom had struck up a conversation with one of the major pin collectors that hand around the shop and was able to get one of the other FP ones for me. Mom rocks!
We finally made our way to World of Disney, and we made our way around the store. I grabbed a 2009 sweatshirt that I had been looking at the past couple of days and that was it. Mom didn’t buy a thing. I think that is the smallest amount I have ever spent in that store. Mom was getting the munchies and I was thirsty. Mom grabbed a drink and some nachos and I grabbed a drink and a hot dog. We found a seat and enjoyed our snack while we people watched. Once we finished up, we headed back toward the bus stops. As we were walking, Mom began to worry me as she all of the sudden got really tired and got kind of pale. There was a bus to the Poly waiting and we were soon headed back to the resort. Once we got back, I told mom she needed to take it easy for the afternoon. She didn’t hesitate to lie down and take a nap. I ran and refilled our mugs and by the time I got back, she was fast asleep. I decided to take it easy as well and watched back to back episodes of Wife Swap. That show is hilarious. I couldn’t help but stifle my giggles.
Around 5:30pm, mom awoke and looked a lot better. I took a shower first and then mom soon followed. Our dinner ADR was at 7:30pm and we needed to make our way to the Wilderness Lodge. Once we got beautified, we took the monorail to MK and then grabbed the boat over to WL. That is such a relaxing ride, albeit a little cool on this evening. Once we arrived, we had about 10 minutes before we had to check in so we headed over to the gift shop to see if there was anything that we just had to have. And once again, we came out empty handed. We sat in the lobby for a few minutes and fondly remembered our stay here last February. I went and got us checked in while mom looked over the pin cart in the lobby. I pulled mom away from the cart as they were able to seat us immediately. I FINALLY was going to eat at Artist Point. (I previously have had ressies here for the past two trips that have been cancelled for one reason or another.)
Our server, whose name I have forgotten, was awesome. He took great care of us throughout the meal. He took our drink orders. We both stuck with water and a soda this meal. Once he returned we placed our appetizer and entrée order. Mom went with the Venison Egg Rolls and I went with the Mixed Green Salad for the appetizer. For the entrée, I went with the Grilled Pork Chop (with purple potato puree, broccolini, and grain mustard au jus) and mom went with the Seared Jumbo Day Boat Scallops (with mild mushroom risotto and white truffle nage).Mom and I loved our choices. She even let me try a bite of her appetizer and I surprisingly enjoyed it.
I now know why people have recommended this restaurant so highly. I made sure to tell Chuck that we are not giving up this ressie the next time we come. Our server came by and gave us the dessert menu to look over. I didn’t have to look because I was going with the Artist Point Cobbler. I am not sure what mom ordered as it isn’t on the menu anymore but she really enjoyed it.
After that fulfilling meal, we settled the bill and rolled our way out the restaurant. We decided to grab a cab back to the resort since it was going to cut it close being able to grab the boat back to the MK and catching the monorail. $5 later we were soon walking through the entrance to the GCH. I grabbed a picture of mom with the drums going into the entrance.
We decided to turn in early this evening. We called our significant others and filled them in on our adventures. We watched some TV, set the wake-up call, and were asleep by 11:00pm.
