Are You Ever Coming Home?...No! I am playing with Wizards, Farkles and Sparkling Friends completed 10/21/2017 - Page 18 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I let Claire sleep in a bit as I went off for my morning walk with the girls. I believe it was just Jeanne, Patty and I. Sadly I was going pretty slowly today with my blistered feet. I also had thrown in some laundry and I had to stop and keep checking and moving it a few times.
I didn’t really mention this before, but I did laundry a few times this cruise. Because it was a longer cruise, many people were doing laundry this sailing and the laundry rooms were constantly packed. To the point that it was normal for people to wait and then pull clothes out when a washer or dryer was done so that they could get theirs started. There were a few times when I just couldn’t do it when I wanted to. Claire kept running out of shorts, so I had to do some this morning….of course later I found 3 more pairs in another drawer. Oops!
After the walk, I got cleaned up and had Claire get up for brunch and we met everyone at Royal Court. We had a huge group this morning. I believe it was Claire and I, Jeanne and her 3 kids, Patty and Fred and Caleb, Brook and I think her gang too.
When we arrive, Ferdi and Lewis were at the entrance and took us to a table. We were happy thinking we would have them as our servers, but we didn’t. They were just seating us. He did tell us our waiters were good and he told them to take special care of us.
We made our orders and I was starving and had big eyes LOL.
Claire and I had yummy shakes.(or maybe it was a smoothie).
I saw risotto on the menu, so my decision was super easy. It was good too. I think Jeanne’s girls got it as well. They now started pointing out risotto dishes to me when they saw them….I think they realized I loved the stuff too.
Claire got a steak…no picture….but she said it was the best steak she had all cruise. Unfortunately, this whole cruise seemed to be hit or miss with her steaks and a lot had fat on them…which she hates. She’s super picky. She was happy she woke up to make it to brunch today.
When I had ordered….I ordered my dessert too, which was chocolate cream puffs. I prefer the white cream, but beggars can’t be choosers. I jokingly said….and I would like 500 chocolate cream puffs. Then I thought I better amend that. They may not realize I was joking and actually bring me out 500. LOL.
By the time they arrived I was so full, but I managed to get 2 down.
I had noticed there was a Pixar Trivia today and had mentioned it at one point in our chat session. It was going to be close to get done with brunch and make it there. Cass messaged us about the time the entrees were coming out that they were heading to trivia. Our meal went pretty slow, and sadly I knew I would make it. Of course she won when I wasn’t with her!
After brunch we decided we needed another round or 2 of Farkle. We just loved the game and had so much playing together. We headed to Cabana’s and moved some tables and got settled. Henry wanted to join us today, but Brook and Joe were heading off to watch something, so we said it was fine for him to stay with us.
At one point he went to the bathroom and we realized he was gone and started to panic. We sent one of the boys to look for him in the closet men’s bathroom and he wasn’t there. Oh gosh! We are watching him and he is gone! He comes strolling back shortly after and he had gone to the bathroom up a level near Palo and Remy. Whew!!!!
Brook and Joe came back before we were done. They had told us to take Henry to the club after we got done…but nope, we were still playing.
Many of the kids wanted to go play Bingo, so they all headed that way. Kelsey was sure she was going to win the jackpot today and was already thinking of ways of spending the money.
While they played, I went up with Patty, Fred, and Jeanne to the Satellite Falls area. Of course the first time I actually make it to the area, it’s a little chillier out and windy. Patty and I sat under the falls and one lady told me they had been off for most of the cruise and this was the first she has seen them running. Then rain came and blew the water right in our faces….well that’s enough of that kind of fun. Hahaha.
Kelsey and Emily came up and said they almost won! They were with the last 3 standing in the jackpot and then someone else won. She was shaking still from the excitement of it all. We later found out Caleb was super excited too and he was holding the card for her and she was going to give him $100 if they won.
We then headed back to the room to lounge around a bit and get ready for the evening. Tonight’s show was Disney’s Believe and I think we skipped it. I have seen the show 3 times already and it’s not a favorite.
It was kind of funny as each night we would kind of rotate where we sat…except at Enchanted Garden. We almost always sat in the same seats there every single time.
Claire was being fed….but I didn’t get a good picture of it.
Tonight there was a treat for us. Spiderman was opening tomorrow and they were going to show it on the ship. This had been the talk for months before the cruise. This movie is NOT a Disney film, but is being distributed by Disney since Disney owns Marvel now…or something along that line. No one knew if it would be shown. Brook heard early on that someone she knew, knew the person who was bringing the “reel” to the ship when we were in Port Canaveral and supposedly it was supposed to be super-secret.
The movie was at midnight and as much as I wanted to see the movie, I was just so tired and we would have a long day at Castaway Cay tomorrow. I couldn’t do it. Claire wanted to go, but not with just the boys. If Emily went, she would go.
After dinner we still were not sure if she was going to go, so we headed back to the room.
Tonight’s towel animal.
Jeanne messaged me that Emily was going to go and told me what time to have Claire ready. Claire was so excited!
Off they went and off to dream land I went. She came in really late, but she said the movie was really good (I still have yet to see it) and that they had a bunch of fun waiting for it to start. I told her I was too tired to talk tonight, so let’s get some sleep and we can talk about it tomorrow.

Great day on The Fantasy! A lot of fun and your brunch especially looked good! Very odd with Joe disappearing for a bit, but being on a ship, he can't go too far and will be found. But there is always that fear factor inside of you!

Finally caught up after my cruise! Funny reading about the trivia - we did lots of trivia this cruise, often with our table mates and we cleaned up! I was giving key rings away to everyone, we won so many. Plus one of the winner ribbons with the Mickey medal. But best was the DCL hats we won!
I have always loved Tortola, especially the Baths. So sad realizing the devastation they, and many others, have experienced.
Each time I post and reread what I wrote I wish I was back on the ship again!

I think part of our problem was there were so many experienced cruisers and some knew the answers. Plus all the trivias were packed and used 2 rooms. We did good, but always about 1 or 2 away from what the winners had unfortunately.

It was another hot day today. Several of my friends were interested in running the 5K on Castaway Cay, but the heat and humidity was making them have second thoughts.
I believe a few of us walked a few laps on deck just to make up for that….well I would never run anyways. Hahaha.
We had some breakfast and headed off the ship. Claire and I were heading to find Fred, who had a spot already on the beach. Zach was hanging with his friends and Caleb and Patty were going to parasail. Jeanne and her family had friends with some cabana’s and they had been invited to join them for the day. Brook I believe did run the 5K and we saw them a few times on the beach and they set their things with ours. I never heard from Cass, so I wasn’t sure if they were going to come out to our spot or not.
I have never snorkeled at Castaway Cay, so I brought my snorkeling stuff off the ship today so we could remedy that. Our spot was right by the snorkel lane.
They do provide vests, and I have one, but we needed one for Claire.
As we got into the water, I noticed Brook’s family joined our seats too. She was taking random pictures and I don’t think she saw me, but I waved to her anyways and she caught this.
I hadn’t realized the snorkeling lane was so long and you have to swim quite a ways before you see anything good. The ground was also full of sea grass.
Claire was having issues and at one point we had to go back to shallower water so we could trade vests and play with her snorkel. Hers had lost the little clamp to hold it to her mask. She was holding it up but she complained a lot about it.
Nice day at CC and great photos of the island and from your snorkeling adventure!

Were you able to find the Mickey statue while snorkeling?
I just love CC. That's the one downside to a cruise that doesn't stop there! We haven't been there for quite some time now, as our last cruises were Alaska and TA.

It was a great time

Yes...if you don't like to be in the water, then it's not a comfortable day at all.

I unfortunately didn't make it out that far.
The next cruise I have planned doesn't stop there either. I am kind of bummed, but it still will be a great cruise.
I would have loved to have gone further out where all the red buoys were. Those marked areas of interest, but Claire was just struggling too much and complaining even more. We just gave up and started to swim back to shore. Sadly we didn’t make it out to much today.
We had a lot of fun just floating in the water and talking. Brook and family headed to lunch after a bit.
Jeanne messaged me they were going for lunch so we headed up to meet her. She said her kids were going on a bicycle ride after and Claire could join them. Claire said it was way too hot to be riding bikes.
We had a nice lunch and Caleb decided to go ride bikes with the kids, but Claire stayed with me. She totally lost out as after their ride, they smuggled Caleb back to the Cabana they were at. I knew it was killing Claire that they were all having fun and she was stuck with me. LOL. I told her she should have went on the bike ride.
After a bit Claire needed something to drink, so we got her a virgin drink.
We then got back in the water with the floats for a while and just chilled. Patty went to take a nap on a hammock, so Claire and I stayed in the water with Fred and we all just chatted. I know it sounds boring, but we really had a great time. Fred is really easy to talk to and at this point it felt like we had known him forever.
Patty woke from her nap and joined us for a bit and then we decided to get out as we heard they were selling 2 for one drinks. Patty and Fred ordered one, but they charged them for both drinks because one was a virgin. They had been told at ordering they would be included in the special and they had to go back and forth to get it taken off their account.
We went to see if the smoothie place was offering the special, but they were closing up. It had gotten windy and a little grey and rain looked to be in the forecast. We all decided to pack up and start towards the ship, with a little shopping along the way.
I bought my granddaughter a shirt and I think we got a magnet as well. I also got myself a shirt. Patty bought a shirt that I had gotten a couple years ago and is one of my favorites. Patty wasn’t sure if Caleb was coming back with Jeanne’s family or not, so I messaged Jeanne to get Caleb back on the ship and literally 2 seconds later Caleb found us.
We ended up losing Patty and Fred at some point and we headed for the tram to get back to the ship. We could tell rain was in the near future.
Literally, just as we stepped inside the rain came…and hard. The people behind us were getting wet.....that’s how close we were to getting poured on.
We headed back to the room and Claire went to get showered. Jeanne messaged me that she was stuck out in the rain and waiting on a tram. I later saw them all coming down the hall totally drenched…..at least they had swimsuits on.
I headed up top as we were close to sail away time. I saw a bunch of people getting pictures and it took me a while to figure it out….Beautiful rainbow!!!!!
One of my friends got a perfect picture with the island in the background too. At some point I went back to the room to get cleaned up, but took pictures from the window.
I set to the task of packing. I hate packing, and after 10 days, it was even worse than normal. I set out the clothes and things we would need for tomorrow and then gathered Claire’s fish extender gifts. I had been trying to keep them condensed and in a suitcase for most of the cruise, but I had to reorganize now.
I will take a minute and just say what wonderful friends we have. The gifts we got were phenomenal. Claire was truly spoiled. We got candy from around the world. Claire got a brand of lipsticks she loves…and not just one tube, but a whole set of different ones. She got make up stuff, manicure stuff, cute little gifts from peoples home state/country…etc. I was amazed at the generosity of our friends.
Also on that note, my friends have amazing kids. Jeanne’s daughters were so nice and fun and treated me just like one of the family. Nick warmed up to me after a few days and he too was so polite and nice.
Cass’s daughter Kira was just a sweetheart. I would see her in the hallway at times and she always stopped to talk.
Patty’s boys were super nice and also would say hi anytime we ran into them. We got to know Caleb more, and he was a lot of fun. I really think he had a good time this cruise and I think Patty was happy he decided to hang out with other kids and not stay with her and Fred 24/7.
Brook’s Henry is the cutest guy. I would see him running around the ship with his buddies playing the Midship Detective Agency game and he would always say hello to us when he saw us. Most kids that age would never even think about doing that. He’s a super friendly guy and just so adorable. (He may not know it, but we plan to have him marry my niece, Abby. LOL)
All that generosity takes space and that suitcase I brought full of gifts…thinking I would not be filling it with gifts on the way home…was full and I had to put some in one of the other suitcases. I got most of everything together but not completely packed.
After we were cleaned up and mostly packed, we went to 90’s trivia with Jeanne and Emily. Claire came with us, even though it was for adults as we had noticed that since O’gill’s and La Piazza didn’t turn to adult only till later in the evening, there were often kids at the adult trivia sessions held in the afternoon and evenings. I told Claire if they asked her to leave, to just go back to the room. They never did and she wasn’t the only kid.
We didn’t win, but had fun.
Then we headed to dinner and had an Ariel spotting.
The last menu is always sad. They are telling us that they enjoyed having us, but you have to leave tomorrow.
Tonight was Royal Court. Cass and family decided to do the pool again tonight, so Patty’s family joined us again. Cass did tell me later that Rob and Kira were the last ones to officially ride the Aquaduck on this sailing.
We arrived at Royal Court, but Nick and Kelsey didn’t show up. Emily messaged them, but no response.
I think Emily ran back to the room then to see if Kelsey and Nick had fallen asleep….and they had. LOL. They came and both looked so tired. They ordered some food then, but not much.
They also brought her cans and cans of Coke Zero….her favorite drink. We lingered around dinner a bit and talked. We saw Brook leaving her table and Henry in complete tears. We figured he was sad the cruise was coming to an end and later she confirmed it. He had had to say goodbye to his tablemate, who became a good friend on the cruise…and it was hard on him.
We had to say goodbye to our servers too. I really liked Ferdi again this trip. He was super friendly to us and he did a good job. Lewis also had been super nice and seemed to get better at the end of the cruise. Ferdi asked me when my next cruise would be and I told him I am currently booked for next Oct., but on the Magic. He told me to ask for him whenever I make it back to the Fantasy. I asked him if he would be on THIS Oct. as I have a friend sailing then and he would be for the first part of the month and we have requested him as her server and I hope she gets him.
Finally, after lots of talking, we got up and left our last dinner. Jeanne and I decided we needed a picture of the kids so we headed towards the Walt Disney Theatre. We had them pose in front of Walt’s picture. They had been carrying the cans of Coke Zero, so they started doing silly poses with the cans.
Claire settled down to finish her last movie and I headed back out. I got to talking to someone and was about to go get some drinks for Claire and I when I got a message from Cass. Let’s meet up!
I messaged Claire that I was going to go see Cass before coming back to the room and I found Cass and we sat in the adult area and chatted for about 30 minutes or so. It was the best time I had with Cass this trip. We had no family interrupting us and we could be just ourselves with each other. I felt so sad that we didn’t spend as much time as I had hoped to during this cruise. I know that she gets tired easily, so I never wanted to bother her too much to have her do things with us. I think she had a few days where she was feeling a little sick too.
We had such a wonderful talk, and I wished I could have seen her more this trip. We talked about what we did, about the annoying family next to me, about the kids, and how we wished Kira and Claire would have hit it off better, and how we would have to travel together again without the family so we could have more time together.
Claire had been messaging me and I kept telling her I was talking to Cass, and then once we left, I told her I would be down shortly, but I still needed to get drinks. Well I ran into the hypnotized lady, and we got to talking too. She was really such a nice person and we talked for probably another 15 minutes or so and I finally had to leave as Claire kept messaging me.
I got back to the room, chatting cheerfully to Claire, when I noticed the red eyes. She was crying. She didn’t want the cruise to end. She wants to cruise again with “these people”. LOL. All the same people on this cruise ship…..except the annoying neighbors. She was devastated that she wouldn’t be able to hang out with Kelsey, Emily, Nick and Caleb anymore. They were all so wonderful and she had so much fun with them. I felt bad and reassured her that we would try to make it happen again in the future. I had a good time too and I was going to miss them all. I loved all my friends we sailed with, but Jeanne and I ended up spending the most time together because neither of us had spouses onboard. We even started referring to each other as our “cruise wife”.
I told Claire she is very fortunate to have been able to do this cruise as not many kids her age that she knows has ever even been on a cruise, let alone a 10 night one. She agreed and finally calmed down and we went to sleep. It was the end of our cruise, but we still had 2 more days at Disney World, so we did need to get some sleep.

Wow, that snorkelling sounds like really hard work. Talk about timing getting back on board just before the rain came! And as for that rainbow, what a lovely farewell from Castaway Cay.
Oh my goodness - the double rainbow shot! Awesome!
Packing at the end is THE worst, isn’t it? Like you, I thought I’d have extra room having off-loaded my FE gifts. But what we got back took up twice as much room!

It was hard work for me. I should have brought off my fins. I am not a fast swimmer at all.
We were happy we missed the downpour. We had dried off quite a bit by then, and no need to get drenched again.
That rainbow was just a perfect ending to the day.

The rainbow was just gorgeous. Everyone was taking shots once they noticed it.
I hate packing...and yes...we go so many nice things, but I never expected it to take up so much luggage space!
