As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: The age of the child in your party? Uh, 34...Day 6B and 7, 3/19
Okay you anxious passporters, the moment you've been waiting for!!
We paid our bill and headed down the street to Shea's (the auditorium in Buffalo) to see The Lion King!!!
Mark bought me tickets last september for my birthday, booked the hotel and everything himself. He even did it online! Very impressive for a man who types with one finger (he has 10, he just uses one to type). I wanted to go to Toronto and see the show numerous times and he just was being a big poop about it, first there was the SARS thing, and then the border patrol created really long waits, he had 1001 excuses. But, no matter, I'm here now.
Our seats are on the orchestra level and its really where you want to sit if you ever go. We are about 20 rows back, a little to the side of center. The place is packed, mostly adults but some children too. The side balconies are not being used for seating, you can see the percussion instruments set up where the seats should be. Its quite warm, a fact Mark can't seem to stop noting, I finally take his suit jacket from him and hang out to it. I swear its like having a 5 year old with you sometimes.
The lights go down, the music starts and the best broadway show I have ever seen begins. This is not a statement I make lightly, my mother and I have season tickets to the Rochester Broadway Theatre League, and while its not Broadway, all the big touring companies come here. We've also seen a number of shows in NYC, so I know of what I speak. My previous favorite has always been Les Mis, I've seen in several times, in Rochester, NY, Washington, always in love with it and wish it would never end. Now there is new favorite and I can't wait to see it again.
The show begins with the animals of the pridelands and pride rock. The animals actually come through the audience, which is why sitting about halfway back on the first level is kind of cool. The costumes are completely stunning, mind bogglingly intricate, and the opening sequence nearly brought me to tears. I'm not kidding, it was beautiful, the music, the "sunrise", the animals, I can't really explain it in words, but I have never been so moved by mere images and music. Its not that it was Disney, its not that cry you get on Main St that's all about nostalgia, its just a reaction to the beauty of it all.
The show is very operatic, lots of symbolism. The drought sequence is just amazing, you have to see it to appreciate it, but this giant floating pool of fabric just shrinks through the floor and the glow of the lights almost makes your mouth dry and the animals even change shape.
When Mufasa dies and lionesses mourn, the show of tears is unique and even weird, but beautiful too. The technical aspects of this show are intense.
I'm not sure if I would bring young kids, although I saw many of them. Its a long night, the show is not like the movie in the sense that there are more musical interludes and, as I said, is somewhat operatic. Timon and Pumbaa are there for comedic relief, but that's not until the second act. All in all, I'd say its an adult show, or at least a mature child show.
During intermission I went out to get myself a tshirt (I've never purchased anything from a show before). I selected the white youth t, with the logo on the frong, size 14-16 (if you wear a size 8 or smaller, get a kids shirt, size large, it will fit way better than an adult t). I pulled out my trusty Disney Visa to pay and ended up getting a free gift for doing so. The gift? Well, Dad's going to love it! Its a Lion King pin! My shirt also came in a metal drum shaped piggy bank, so I got a three for one deal.
I could have sat there all night and listened an watched, but the show does end. Fortunately the touring company is coming through Rochester next season and I'm planning to go at least twice. We walked back to the Hyatt and pretty much immediately crashed. I want my POFQ bed!
We woke around 9, headed out, had some Burger King breakfast on the way home. I did my long run (17 miles) and graded some papers for school the next day. Break is over, Desperate Housewives is a re-run, there's no good sports on TV, and the weather stinks, but I've had an outstanding February break with parent time, 80 degree days, a good race, a great show, and a nice weekend with Mark.
I suppose my next Disney trip is awhile from now. I know I'll be going back next February to visit Mom and Dad again, the marathon is still up in the air, and I think we might try another long trip in August 2006, right before Labor Day.

I think I am the only person in Buffalo who was too broke to get tickets to the Lion King. I'm sooo glad you had a nice time. Maybe I'll come to Rochester to see it next year.
Great report! Thanks for sharing it!

Kim, I loved every second of reading your trip report. My only regret is that it's now finished. You simply have to take more WDW trips so that you can write more trip reports.
As for the Lion King show, I saw it in Toronto in Dec/03 and I'm in total agreement with you about the magnificence of this spectacular production. It's so hard to describe this show to anyone because it's next to impossible to convey how moving the special effects are. I cried so many times while watching it that I was rapidly running out of Kleenex.
