How The Western Caribbean Was Won! Completed 8/10/2016 - Page 17 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Just joining in! Sounds like a wonderful cruise so far! Looking forward to hearing more!
Glad you could come on board and there is plenty more to come. I usually only update once a week as tough finding the time during the week!

I walked to Animator’s Palate for the 8:15 pm seating for dinner and our table #37 was near the back of the restaurant. A few of my table mates were already there, but not everyone had arrived for dinner yet. The rest would arrive within a few minutes.
Once the others arrived, our server Marcus handed out the menus. Tonight, I decided to order a full bottle of wine and have the rest of it on another night and that being Wednesday as I will be dining at Palo for dinner tomorrow. I went with a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon from the Paso Robles area of Northern California. Our assistant server, Amp recommended this one. I’ve had this before and was quite enjoyable. There were various breads on the table and were quite good and fresh. We all looked over the menu and made our choices and seemed like some good ones tonight.
My table mates and myself and I talked for a while, about the various excursions we took today and our plans for our first day at sea tomorrow. After enjoying my bread and wine for a bit, my first course arrived. When it was revealed, I was wondering if I’ll enjoy this as much as many of you on the boards here have!
Pasta Pursettes filled with Black Truffle scented Cheese with a light Champagne sauce. This was so good and did not disappoint in any way with so much flavor. It was perfect! A few of us had this and they enjoyed it as well!
Shortly, my next course was served to me by Marcus and was another winner.
.
Arugula and Endive Salad with Sliced Chorizo, Dried Figs and Herb Croutons with a Cider Vinaigrette. I enjoyed this one as well, but not as much as my first appetizer as it would be tough to top that!
During the course of this meal I was enjoying the theming of the room and the gradual color changes that progressed during the night. It was a pretty cool effect, even though I was aware this would be occurring here! The restaurant is very bright with lovely colors and great use of various tones of white, which brightened up the room.
After a bit of downtime between courses our entrees arrived..
Ginger-Teriyaki Glazed Angus Beef Tenderloin with Bok Choy, Wasabi Mashed Potatoes and a Tamarind Barbeque Sauce Reduction. Another winner and was more enjoyable than my lamb from last night.
Shortly, it was dessert time and along with mine I also ordered an expresso.
White Chocolate Fudge Cheesecake. It was as good as it looks!
Another great dinner tonight and overall a little better than last night. I told Amp that I wouldn’t be at dinner tomorrow night, so she could have my bottle of wine stored. She said it would be at the table for my next dinner on Wednesday at Lumiere’s. I also told my table mates I wouldn’t be here as well and that they’d have to get on without me!
Just as we were finishing up dinner, we had a little show on the walls of Animator’s Palate, which was enjoyable. As there was quite a bit of action, the photos don’t do enough justice for the show!
Like the light tones in the room!
It was nearly 10 pm once the show at Animator’s Palate came to a close. I didn’t have to get up early tomorrow morning as it was our first day at sea and didn’t have things planned until the afternoon. I decided to return to Keys for a while as I enjoy this lounge so much.
Entertainment in Promenade Lounge
Cinderella meeting an admirer.
Love these rest spaces between Keys and O’Gill’s!
I arrived back at Keys and stayed for a while to enjoy Nick’s piano playing for a while. I had a Grand Marnier and made myself comfortable by one of the port hole windows. I met a few other people from various parts of the USA, including Pennsylvania and talked with them as well as Nick during his break about various cruise lines and cruising in general.
I stayed at Keys until about 11:30 pm and went to check out the club Fathom’s for a while. There were not many people in there, so I ordered a beer and stayed just for a little while before returning to my room with my beverage.

...And my beer in DCL souvenir glass!
I went out on my verandah for a while and enjoyed my beer as well as a nice comfortable evening with views of Cuba in the distance. Although, it looked quite far away as the lights were quite faint. Next, I went to Deck 9 to get some cold water before I headed to bed for the night.
Quiet Cove area on Deck 9
I got my water and then returned to my room for the night at about 12:30 am. It was quite an active day and looking forward to the day at sea with a few things planned!
NEXT: A Nice Day At Sea and My First Massage!

Sounds like a great night! Your dinner looked amazing...from beginning to end! And your time in the various lounges seemed like a nice way to relax at the end of the day.
I have to say, though, the last couple pictures of the empty deck at night kinda creeped me out! Murder mystery!

My dinner tonight was so good and may have been one of the best of the cruise! I love Keys Lounge especially on the Magic for Nick's piano playing and just so relaxing here! They have an amazing and accommodating staff here as well! It is a bit odd seeing deck 9 so empty late at night!

Dinner was so good and I don't think I left a morsel on any plate this night! I'm glad I enjoyed another relaxing time in Keys as I'm really starting to love it there! Just my type of place and I know from one of Cheryl's TR's on the Magic how much she and Mark enjoyed Keys! That was their 2014 summer Mediterranean cruise!
This would certainly not be my last time there!

Oh my, your dinner looked amazing! So neat to see the deck look so empty. (And I love the picture of your beer looking so little compared to that LONG hallway, LOL!)
Oh that sounds like a wonderful evening - and I'm so glad you enjoyed your dinner at Animator's Palate as much as we've done previously.
It was a great dinner and I think the truffle pursettes is one of the best apps I've ever had,,,anywhere! It was that good! All in all another great evening and love winding it down at Keys!

It was an amazing dinner and one of the best of my cruise! Funny, about the beer photo as I was going to originally delete it, but it looked pretty cool in regards to the long corridor as you said! When, I took the photo, I had forgotten that the beer was there, until I looked at my photos the next day! I think it compliments it rather well!

I really enjoyed dinner and the rest of my evening! The black truffle pursettes are a real winner!

Whew, had a lot to read up on! I absolutely love Key West We did this exact cruise on the Magic in 2009, and it was one of our favorites where ports of call are concerned. I, too, have noticed that there's not much of a nightlife scene going on aboard the Disney ships

Glad you are enjoying this! The nightlife scene could have been better on the Magic, but I did seem to enjoy Keys!
