Rain, Sunshine & Cupcakes ~ June 24 - July 3 - Page 17 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

You got lots of great castle photos! Sounds like a great morning at MK with just you and AJ (well, except for Space Mountain!). I won't ride Space Mountain at WDW anymore (DLR version is still ok).
When we were there a couple of years ago, we were the last 2 people to board a full bus, so we were standing right by the driver. We struck up a conversation with him and he told us that he had gotten a chance to go inside Space Mountain during its recent refurb. With the lights on, he said you could see places where they had cut out extra space in the structure for human heads to pass underneath some of the rails.
Now, whether or not that's actually true (and, honestly, I have some doubts!), I always have always worried during that ride that I'm going to bonk my head. DH and I rode Space Mountain later that day, and when it was over, we found that we had both unconsciously slunk down as far as possible in our seats. After that, we decided we wouldn't ride it again!
And I'm with you on Dibs at 10:30 a.m. Back in February, I fed my kids churros for breakfast at DLR. Hey, it's vacation!
Sounds like the two of you had a lovely time while the other three spent valuable park time sleeping. Sleep is for at home. Glad you got to see the opening ceremony. We caught it by accident on our last trip and I really enjoyed it. Even teared up a little bit. I'm so glad I was able to see it.
Glad you were able to finally catch the opening ceremony at MK...even if it did mean leaving some of them behind. Looks like you got a lot done though, and a pool break is always welcome on a hot day.
Finally, after all these years, I was able to see it. Now if only I could get the rest of the family to see it once.

It was really great! Sometimes you need moments like that.

Yes, definitely make that a priority. If worse comes to worst, leave the sleepy heads behind.

Since the refurb it is in complete darkness and you can't tell what direction you're going so you can't brace yourself! Hence, it really jerks you around quite a bit. I had such a headache when we got off!
Love all your pictures. You're right, you can never have too many pictures of the castle!
Space Mountain is on my no-no list now (right there with Stitch's Great Escape).
I love taking pictures of the castle from different angles. It's just so beautiful! I can't get enough of it.

For me it was the other way around. I rode it when I was younger and now that I'm older I can't. It's too much for me now.

We did enjoy our morning together. It was fun.

Yeah, poor kids of mine. They won't be riding Space Mountain anytime soon.

Thanks! For me, I think it'll be a while before I see it again. They don't llike to wake up early on vacation, go figure.

I'm so happy you got to make rope drop at MK. It is so coll to be in the parks that early, you can get so much done with the low crowds.
That's why I like to at the parks at opening time. You can get so much done before midday, then you can go rest at the room and come back in the early evening and finish up.

Ok, that story is kind of scary. Now I'll never ride it again. Don't want to be bonking my head or something.

What a great morning - leaving the sleepy heads behind, rather than sitting around waiting for them to wake up -I've done the same thing on vacations
Your story of Splash Mountain made me thankful that we were in the cue when the ride malfunctioned rather than on the ride itself. My son would never have gotten on another ride the rest of the vacation.

My kids were more annoyed because of the waiting. They were anxious to get back on the ride.
June 29 Part 2
Dinner with our friends from 100 Acre Wood
After relaxing for a while at the room we were ready to head back to MK. We left the room at 5:30 and walked over to the bus stop. We waited about 2o minutes for a bus and then we were on our way. Got in the park and started walking up Main St. We stopped for a couple of shots on the way.
Kids wanted to ride Splash Mountain but when we got there we realized it was down. BTMRR had a 50 minute wait and the FP time didn’t work for us so we skipped it. The boys wanted to ride something so we went to PoTC . It was a walk on. After visiting Captain Jack Sparrow and the rest of the rowdy pirates, it was time to head over to our dinner destination.
I checked us in and waited about 10-15 minutes. While we waited I took some pictures.
They called our name and escorted us to our table, which was on the left side of the entrance, the first table, very close to the kitchen entrance and the buffet line. The table was decorated for the occasion with Mickey confetti. Our server, which as always I forgot his name, came and took our drink orders. We hit the buffet, filling our plates with delicious looking food.
These plates were all mine.
Not long after, the characters started to arrive.
Then there was a little parade with the characters and of course Adriel had to participate.
Sorry for the blurry pic.
Our server brought yet another cupcake and a birthday card for Abniel. He was a very happy boy.
Sorry for the plate of food.
I really enjoyed this restaurant. Food was delish, service was excellent, character interaction was great. I'd come back here again, that is until my kids get older and don't want to get near any character.
The boys still wanted to ride Splash Mountain so we headed over there only to find it had a 95 minute wait. That’s not happening . We went next door and BTMRR had a 40 minute wait. I didn’t want to wait that long but I was outvoted. I was complaining the whole way in. We eventually got to the ride and had a blast. But still, I’d rather not wait that long in line for a ride.
I wanted to scope out the perfect spot for Wishes and I knew exactly where to go. We got to the railing in front of Crystal Palace and claimed our spot. We still had a little while before the show was to start, so Arben took the boys for a quick bathroom break. AJ and I stretched as far as we could to save their spots. They arrived just in time, as people were starting to gather around. Shortly after, The Magic, the Memories and You show started.
Then it was time for my favorite show, Wishes. We had an awesome view. Thank you Passporter friends for this great spot!
We let the crowds thin out a bit and then headed to Fantasyland. We hadn’t ridden Peter Pan yet but the wait was 40 minute. We moved on to It’s a small world, with a 5 minute wait. When we came out we saw that PP had gone down to 30 minutes so we hopped in line because everyone really wanted to ride. After that we decided to leave. We were kind of thirsty so I went into Casey’s and bought some waters. We kept on walking down Main St. only to be trapped by the second parade. We waited a couple of minutes for it to pass and then went on our merry way. There was a bus at the stop but it was full. The bus driver was great because he made some space for us, so we wouldn’t have to wait. Awesome!
We got to our room, quickly changed and hopped into bed. It was 11:30 and we were exhausted. It had been a great day!

What a great time at the MK,sorry for the long wait, I have been outvoted as well for waiting in line for BTMRR, at least everyone had fun. Dinner looked delicious, and love all the pictures with the characters.
