The Good, The Bad and The Buggy - Nov 2011 TR - Page 17 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

40 snacks??!!! That is crazy! I read on here somewhere in the last few days that Disney is cracking down on meal trade ins starting next year. Gone will be the days of being able to do that. From what I read, as of now, it depends who you ask and where (like you found out) but next year it will be NO trades across the board. Ugh.
Sorry you had a not so magical time at BLT, but it seems like a magical trip overall. I have to say that I think that it would be hard to have a non magical time with Chuck! You two are so cute!
Can't wait to hear from Chuck what happened with the DVC rep.
Thanks for sharing your adventures and loving relationship with all of us!
Thanks for taking an active role in our TR, Sparks! Glad to share with my friend!

I'm glad Contempo Cafe was able to exchange your credits for snacks. I had heard sometimes no one would do that, and you'd be left with wasted credits. I would've loved to have so many snacks to enjoy after a trip!
I'm curious to hear how Chuck made out with the DVC folks! I'm hoping that they were sincerely sorry that your first DVC wasn't the most magical.
Thanks.

Thanks for reading. The 4 in 1 is very doable. There are so many great places for couples here!

I figure we are crazy nuts about the mouse when you plan what meals you want to do before you even really leave WDW.
We were doing the same thing! I have a list going of all the places we want to do again, as well as new ones we want to try. Yes, we started the discussion...at the airport on the way home. No, I'll be honest some were talked about while sitting at the table waiting to pay for the meal.
Thanks for your thoughts Chuck. It's been such a fun report getting feelings and point of view from you both. Plus, you know how much I love Coop, so it's been nice to get to know you as well.
Can't wait for the next PTR!
Oh yeah. DVC really went beyond and Travis was great. We were planning things for "next time" while we were there - like Yachtsman is another must do! Shucks Sparks - you. Maybe one of these trips, we will actually meet?

It was very nice. DVC really took care of us after the fact. Thanks.

Thanks Coop! I always seem to go in Sept, not that We can't go any other time, I guess we just never considered it. Also, we like going during the value season...less money. But...maybe sometime magical will happen and we will. That would be so cool.

Well, Sparks, our next trip will be Sept 9-20. So maybe????
That is SO bad! Your next trip does fall right in the time frame we usually go. Wth is that?
It will be done someday!
We have AP's that will expire the beginning of Nov. So we wanted to get our trip in before that. Also Chuck wanted to go during a less busy season and we wanted to avoid F&WF. One day Sparks, one day.

September is a lovely time to visit. Less crowds for sure. It can still be hot though, so be warned. It was over 90, and closer to 95 everyday we were there this year 9/13-9/20. The one day it was closer to 90 we were like "Oh, it's so much cooler today....though it wasn't"
Let me ech Sparky's concerns It was way too hot for us in Sept. By the time I got back to the dock most mournings it was well into 90's and humidity matched
See now I like September just fine, but it is H.O.T. When we go in 2013 or 2014 we decided to try to do it more towards the end of Sept./early Oct. Generally by then, from what I can see it tends to be a few degrees cooler. Closer to the 85-90 mark, which is fine by me.
When I went last year it was about 85 everyday we were there and it was gorgeous! I didn't even bring out the fan mister....not even out of the room.
With the crowd level what it is, I wouldn't not recommend Sept, but have to warn of the heat and potential OMG HOT. I would never go smack in the middle of summer though. NO THANKS! No with that temp or more and MORE crowds.
Glad DVC listened and responded to your complaints. I think it is great that they refunded some of your points. It is nice to know that they are working on getting things right at BLT.
Sorry you never found your key, those things are ridiculously expensive to replace, but glad the insurance covered your cracked window.
I am happy that they let you trade your TS meals for snacks so that you got something for the money you paid.
I hope you enjoy OKW in Sept. That is what month we stayed there as well. It was pretty hot, but the crowds were very low.

We get some hot/humid days here in Michigan too. Hopefully - it should be fine.

Yeah - we are trying to avoid anytime that schools are out. (after having been there at spring break and "Jersey week"). We also get hot and humid here in Michigan so hopefully it won't be too much worse than that.

That's what I'm counting on. Low crowds. DVC was very good at taking care of us.
Somehow I lost track of your TR (I see I posted all the way back on page 1). But because I did, I was able to read your entire TR in one go, which I always enjoy. Sorry BLT was a disappointment for you, especially as it's your home resort, but I think most of your complaints are things that they can fix, so that's good! Reading about all those great meals made me want a snack. Do you still have any of your snacks left over that you could give me? Thanks for sharing your TR with us and I'll be watching for your do over.
