4 Parks, 2 Days, 1 Backpack: The Trip Report Complete! - Page 17 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sounds like a fantastic meal at CG! Glad you had excellent service there. And very cool that you got a windowside table. Your food looked great too - I'd love the flatbread if it didn't have cucumber yogurt. More, please!

What a great meal at the Cali Grill! I'm not surprised it's always busy, as the food is always first class there.
It was truly a great way to top off a short trip!

I just love the food at Citricos, but for the view you cannot beat CG! I believe that my skirt might be dry--tomorrow

The ravioli really intrigued me. It was filled with a lot of my favorite things!
I'm sorry about your KRR experience. I'm going to be at AK in about a month and I'm already planning out what I'll wear so that I will minimize my discomfort/exposure.
Good luck! I think that the best quick dry I've got is a pair of pants that I bought at AKL that fold into the pocket of the pants--really light weight polyester. I can't wait to see the Hunger Games movie!

I love it too! The problem I've been having for October is that I love too many restaurants!

Now that is the way to end a trip. Congrats on the great evening and seating at the CG. Never been to that one. It looks like I have really missed a lot.
i loved all your photos of the hidden mickeys on the mural. wow...i had not realized there were so many! ....and the food porn...yum...now i am hungry. i don't do lamb, but everything else sounds so great. wish you or bobandlarry would give some lessons on wines and pairing...i am such a neophyte. i am glad you enjoyed your solo trip thusfar...i love going over by myself as well.
I would love to have you teach me how to pair wines. I'm not a big drinker, but I do love food, and I know that when you pair the right wine with the right dish, it just makes both so much better.
Glad that meal and service were both good!

Okay a little wine paring lesson. It isn't really the color of the wine that matters so much. The most important thing to keep in mind is the body of the wine--literally how heavy the wine feels on your mouth. Light bodied wines include Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio, some Savignon Blancs, Medium bodied wines include unoaked Chardonnay, Merlot, some zins. Full bodied wines are going to include your Cabs, Petit Syrah, and Chardonnay. (If I've said some the same is true for the next weight up.) Now match the weight of the meal to the correct wine. Lighter fish dishes get light bodied wines, steaks get full bodied wines. Next you need to consider the acidity, terroir and the alcohol content. If I'm eating very rich food I like a lot of acidity, especially if there is cream in the dish. Terroir refers to the ground the grapes are grown in and what they add. For example French Sancerre has a very mineral rich terroir, which I love. I am easily turned off by wines that have a high alcohol content--so I'm not much of a zin drinker, as those tend to be higher.
My favorite grapes are Malbec, Pinot Noir, Pinotage and Syrah. I tend to favor classic Claret blends of Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet, Petit Verdot, and Cab Franc. Try a bottle of Newton Claret to get an idea. As for white--I like em all, except heavily oaked Chardonay, but my favorites are Chenin Blanc, Viognier, Albarino, and Sav Blanc--but I prefer French to domestic on the last--so a Sancerre. If you've never had any South African wine--give it a try Pinotage and Chenin Blanc are exceptionally good values and some good labels are Mann Vinters, Spice Route, Raats and Fairview.
Good luck everyone--I'm always available for wine lessons! Honestly I tend to drink what I like to drink and the food seems to find it's way along. I think I now unconsciously pair food options to the wine I want to drink, rather than the other way around.

I stopped taking pictures at dinner, so there aren't any of my departure. I took a taxi back to Sports because I had a margarita before dinner and three glasses of wine. I didn't want to risk walking to the MK and having to wait for the bus. I know I would have needed a restroom if there was a long line.
I packed up most of my stuff and crawled into bed setting two alarms and a wake up call. I got up right on time and showered, packed the rest of my stuff and headed for the DME stop. I believe I grabbed a croissant sandwich at the food court on my way. It was passable. My DME bus was right on time and I read on the way to the airport. I browsed a little in the shops before going through security. I couldn't believe that the Universal stores don't stock a Universal planning guidebook, but all of the Harry Potter merch was cool. I browsed through the Disney store, but didn't buy anything. In case you are wondering--the only thing I bought besides food and beverages on the whole trip was that pair of pants at DAK. Talk about shopping restraint! I came home with money still in my pocket, which was good because I just got a $450 electric bill.
I usually pick stuff up for the people I've left behind, but not this trip--it was all about me.
I slept through the entire flight from MCO to Charlotte. I then hiked across the entire airport and I think I grabbed something to eat, but I can't for the life of me remember what. I then slept from Charlotte back to New Orleans, where I got my car out of hock (airport long term parking) and drove DIRECTLY to work, where I gave Jacob, the valet, my car and went to work in the restaurant. I relieved Rachel, who, poor thing, had to work a double the day before because Deb didn't know I was out of town and called in sick--figuring I would cover for her--not so much I was 1200 miles away! I worked until close and then picked my car back up from Jacob and went home, and passed out.
I'll be wrapping this up sometime tomorrow. I've got some tentative plans for lunch, so I'm not sure when. Tomorrow is my first day off since I got home from this mini break. Sunday is my birthday so I'm off again--yea! We just opened up a new live music club at the hotel, which has 3 bars and zero bartenders. They have hired 2 people, but one has to go through orientation still and the other is on vacation. I worked the club tonight and the bar there is a challenge to say the least. It is tiny and has no space for glassware. It's a nightmare, but I guess I'll be getting used to it. the bartender working the upstairs bar took the liberty of coming in at 5pm for a 5:30 opening--so I, who came in at 2:30, had the fun task of hauling his ice up the stairs for him, setting up his beer station etc etc. The second floor bar is a banquet bar, not a built in--so there are no ice bins, coolers, or sinks. Another disaster. We kept the service bar closed tonight.
Cali Grill sounded wonderful! I'm so glad you enjoyed your server and it sounded like he enjoyed your company as well. I'm not much of a wine drinker, so your little lesson was interesting to read, thanks. Glad you got some sleep on your flights home as you needed it - going straight to work. Good luck with the new situation at work.
