Me, Muffin and WDW for Xmas stuff!! PTR - Page 17 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We're going on the RCCL Adventure of the Sea Southern Caribbean sailing next June. Since we've never been on a cruise before we have no idea what to expect or do. I think we may have to do the Mystery Dinner one night!
Can't wait for you to post more about the cruise so I know what we're going to do the other nights on our cruise!
The Mystery Dinner Show sounds like a fun way to start to the cruise.
That's what I was thinking!!

Katie has turned out to be a pretty decent young lady. It's a miracle!!!! She was a piece of work as a teenager!
You will love the Adventure and the Southern Caribbean!! what a great choice for your first cruise! Do you go to San Juan and St. Maarten?!
I have some very exciting news!! Muffin will be 60 next year (just for the record, I am nowhere near that age) and he has been talking about going on a cruise out of Copenhagen for a few years now! Yesterday, I booked one!! We are going on a Back to Back Norway/Scandinavia/Russia cruise next August!! I am, once again, trying to keep this as a surprise! No matter how it goes, I am incredibly excited!!
Our itinerary and the rest of our plans!
So, we really don't have a lot planned on this cruise. We have done many excursions at these ports over the years and we are at the point where if we feel like doing something on a particular day, we just wait and book it on the cruise. Our friends have also cruised many times and feel the same. One of the nicest things about traveling with these guys is that we do a mix of stuff with them and on our own. We always eat dinner together, but during the day, we do our own thing. Sometimes that winds up being as a foursome, sometimes not!
Our itinerary for this sailing is as follows:
Day 1: 4:30PM Sailaway
Day 2: At Sea
Day 3: Labadee, Haiti
Day 4: Falmouth, Jamaica
Day 5: George Town, Grand Cayman
Day 6: Cozumel, Mexico
Day 7: At Sea
Day 8: Disembark and head home in the afternoon
We have one excursion booked in Jamaica for some kind of Bamboo Rafting adventure. Other than that, we are totally winging it. We usually at least get off at each port and explore a bit, but who knows?! We always manage to have fun and I hope this time will be no exception. I also get the alcoholic beverage package as I love to try new drinks! Muffin doesn't because he just likes wine, whiskey and water. .
We adore the shows at night and although we have seen a few duds, most have been excellent! We have been on Freedom's sister ship; Liberty, but not on the Freedom herself and it is always fun to try a new vessel!!
We haven't been on this route in quite a while, so we are very much looking forward to that! My SIL had better not be lying about the ships being decorated for Christmas!! We can't wait to see holiday stuff and hear the beautiful seasonal music!! ( Honestly, it would be a great treat, but if for some reason, the ship is normal, that's okay too!)
So that is our holiday vacation in a nutshell!! We can't wait!!!

I'm just signing on to this PTR Tara and I've started at the beginning so my head is spinning!!! You amaze me how many times you've changed your resorts because I would be so nervous that they'd be all booked up! We're going to WDW December 12-18 so we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed that we both get a rainless vacation!!! I love all your final plans as AKL is one of my favorite resorts to stay at and the savanna view just can't be beat! We're staying there in December too but have a pool view this time. Have you and Muffin thought about buying into the DVC since you love Disney so much? It's a great deal if you visit WDW a lot! Your cruise plans sound wonderful and it's so great that you were able to get a free cruise from RCCL! That's the cruise line that we have sailed on for our last two cruises and we were impressed with the food! I have laughed out loud many times reading up to this point. I love your TR's!
So, you can get a drink package for one? I like to have a few cocktails but DH doesn't drink at all.
Awesome surprise for Muffin's big birthday (that is not the zero birthday I'm celebrating next year).
Yes, you can, Colleen!! I am so excited about the cruise next year! I did not think that was even close to the zero year you were talking about!!

Thank you, Linda and what a nice thing to say!! I will keep my fingers crossed!! We AKL at Christmas!! The last time we stayed there in 2012, we booked a pool view and were upgraded to a savanna view. I wish the same for you!! We just figured lightening would not strike twice and there is nothing better to me than walking down to the Mara, getting some coffee and drinking it on my balcony watching the animals go by!!!!
We have considered DVC and have not given up yet. We even went for the tours when my kids were younger, but having four of them was a real problem. Now-not so much, so we are actually considering it again!!
We love RCCL!! We also love DCL, but the difference is usually significant enough that I just can't do it.

You will love the Adventure and the Southern Caribbean!! what a great choice for your first cruise! Do you go to San Juan and St. Maarten?!
The cruise leaves from San Juan so that means we get to fly into San Juan. We flew into San Juan as a stop-over from St. Thomas a few years ago and the pilot had to try more than once to land the plane.
I may be asking you tons of really silly questions about cruising between now and June (Like what do we wear for the non-formal night dinners) so you may want to put me on ignore!
Katie was quite a handful! Some of those things would be something my middle son would do. Maybe it's not such a good idea to take him on a cruise or let him roam the ship.
