Me, Muffin and Our Adventures in the West!! - Page 17 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Grand Prismatic Spring is just stunning, isn't it? We were bowled over by all the vibrant colours in it.

Seriously, you've never been and you're that close? You must go. We are so glad we made it there a few years ago. It's so beautiful out there.

Remember we just moved here a year ago. Before the move we were twice the distance that we are now. I'm seriously looking at it for Sept. of 2019, although we will probably fly in rather than drive.
Nature is just so beautiful and this area certainly supports it! All the mountains, trees, hot springs and rivers are just amazing. The regions of Yellowstone are quite amazing and looking forward to the rest of your time there!

Ah, you're right, I was forgetting that. My apologies! If you do the trip, trust me, you won't regret it. It is just so beautiful there.
It sure is!! I only wish I was a better photographer!!

The most amazing thing to us was that all of this was in one place!! We have never been anywhere like Yellowstone. It is not only beautiful but also unique!!
More of Yellowstone and the Lake Yellowstone Lodge
Yellowstone contains more than 10,000 hydrothermal features including geysers, basins and hot springs. Old Faithful is the most well known of these and for good reason!! Old Faithful really is something to behold!! It sends out thousands of gallons of steaming water with each eruption and does this about every hour and a half!! This was the most crowded place in the Park and after seeing it, we could certainly understand why.
Old Faithful
This is the only place we ran into a crowd
This geyser is amazing and everything it is cracked up to be!!
After our long day of trekking and hiking and seeing so much beauty, we were ready to chill down for a while so we drove toward Lake Yellowstone. I guess because of the natural setting of this park, there really aren't any road signs other than to general areas of interest. We found one that said Lake are and figured our resort would be down this way.
We arrived at Lake Yellowstone Hotel and immediately fell in love with this beautiful resort!! This is in the Yellowstone Lake section of the park and literally sits right on the Lake!! I would describe this Hotel more like a Lodge. There is no air conditioning here because the temperature really drops at night but they do have room fans to keep things comfortble and you can open windows as well. Our room was pretty neat as it was pretty old fashioned.
When we arrived, we realized how dusty we were from hiking. Our shoes were covered and our socks were dirty as well and this is with good walking shoes!! We both got showers and you could literally see the dust coming off. The hotel soap was amazing! It was a lemon sage scent and it felt so good to clean up with!!
When we were refreshed, we headed down to the sunroom bar for a nice glass of wine and were treated to an incredible string quartet. We did not have dinner reservations and were originally told that there was no opening until 9 PM. Then the hostess told us that we could be put on a waitlist and would probably be seated within two hours. It was now about 5:45 PM and we both agreed that we could easily pass two hours sipping on wine, taking in the scenery and enjoying the string quartet, so we got a buzzer and relaxed.
We also ordered this guy to share and it was delicious!!
The view outside:
We actually got called for dinner by 7:00 PM. We absolutely loved this dining experience!! The restaurant is beautiful and the food was simply amazing!! We were seated by a window which overlooked the front side of the resort and just as we were seated, an elk decided to graze right in front of us!! We had a bunch of company for a few minutes as everyone wanted a picture of this!!
After things settled down, our wonderful waiter, Ryan, gave us menus and explained the various dishes. I chose Elk chops! . Ryan assured me that they were not part of the Elk we just saw and that they were delicious. He described them as a darker meat but not as games as venison. I always like to try something new so I decided to go for it. Muffin went with Halibut with fresh veggies. The veggies turned out to be squash and carrots which made Muffin very happy.
We each had a glass of Chenin Blanc and really really enjoyed our entire meal. We were definitely not up for dessert and decided to take a walk on the lake after this lovely meal and then went to Starbucks to finish off our night. I got a huckleberry mocha, which was delicious!! Muffin got a coffee and a slice of lemon cake.
After this, we were thoroughly exhausted from this wonderful day and happily crashed for a good nights’ sleep!!

OMG! What a wonderful experience! Old Faithful is incredible! I’m sure it was an awesome feeling to stand so close to it!
I know exactly what you mean about the Lemon Sage soap! They had the same thing at some of the National Parks we visited and I loved it!
Dinner looked amazing and what a great view!
