Fall, Firsts, Food And The Final Frontier-WDW PTR - UPDATED 10/9 - Page 16 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Lots of changes but it sounds like everything is coming together!
It took a while to fit it all together and glad I was able to get what I want so far!

Whew! Glad you got that all sorted out and fingers crossed for the dessert party for you!

It's all working out for me, even though it meant rearranging many things and giving up others. It's always, what is most important. I will return, so I can do the other things on my next trip as tough to decide with so many new offerings in WDW!
I too and hoping for the dessert party as it seems like a great event, even with the $69 price tag on it and you get a great view of the fireworks show!

I'm hoping you don't have any problems with your flights in a few days with Hurricane Matthew. I should think the flight schedules should be back to normal by then!
Wishing you luck for this and a great trip and looking forward to meeting up at the Fest on Wednesday the 19th!

Yes it is! Funny with my thinking is I can't wait for the weekend to be over and get back to work for a few days as I'll be that much closer to being in WDW!
The other thing with nearly 7 days until I depart, I try to make it sound closer and think what I was doing 7 days ago! I always do this with my trips or anything else, I'm really looking forward to!

There will definitely be a TR and hope soon after my trip! This will be my second time seeing La Nouba as it's been too long since the last time.

Haven't checked in on your PTR for a while, Dave. Must say I applaud your changes. Sounds like an exciting array of eateries, because yes, indeed, it IS about the food.
Looking forward to vicariously enjoying your trip, especially eager to see what you think of Flying Fish in particular. Too bad you canceled the Trattoria al Forno. We were looking forward to giving it a redo after a disappointing experience last year, but then Flying Fish won out after getting such raves from the DIS Unplugged crew. So, we need photos and details! We're relying on your opinions for future planning.
Glad you like the changes and I'm quite happy with them. I saw the FF review on Dis Unplugged and they were quite impressed with it.

Monday, September 5th Unfortunately, I had to work today, even though it’s Labor Day! At least I was able to get out a bit earlier, which was good.
As soon as I got home, the first thing I did was go on the Disney website and see if the window had opened for October bookings for the Star Wars Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party. I have a good feeling about this today as I could sense it! I was right and I could now make a reservation for this! I wanted one for Friday, October 21st and it was available! I booked it and all was set! This is a prepaid charge of $69, which is a bit steep, but judging from reviews of it here by others, it sounds like a great event and experience!
The dessert party begins at 6:45 p.m. in the Star Wars Launch Bay for about an hour. At about fifteen minutes prior to the fireworks show the CMs will escort us to a private viewing area near the Great Movie Ride. I’m looking forward to this and glad I will be doing this event. Originally, I wasn’t going to be able to see this show, but with some reorganizing of my plans, I was able to squeeze it in!
Sunday, September 11th I finalized my packing list for my trip. Looking it over I seem pretty well set on what I will need. I’m always afraid I’ll overlook something and forget to have it on hand, but I’ve always planned well and usually not a problem with this.
I will be in the Magic Kingdom on my second day on Sunday, October 16th and one thing that interested me is the new brunch at the California Grill. It’s a pretty expensive offering at $80, but the menu looks incredible as the reviews of it have been too. I was hoping to get an ADR around 10 am, but all they had available was 11:40 am as I would like to be in the Magic Kingdom at that time. Perhaps, on my next trip and will keep this in mind. It’s not a priority, but if I was able to get a good ADR time, I would have booked it.
I ordered my Disney Visa Rewards Redemption Card for my trip. I put $240.94 on it, which I have accumulated over the last couple of years. I will definitely, be using this for my Victoria & Albert’s dinner, which will make dining there a bit easier!
Over the past few weeks, I've been reading the Disney Food Blog’s 2016 Epcot Food & Wine Festival e-book and have becoming quite familiar with the festival as I’m a newbie to this. I made my booth choices and have put them on my Galaxy 5 as well as other important information I need for the festival. It was a bit difficult to choose, which booths to frequent as so much of it looks good. We shall see if I can get them all in on two days there!
