Solo-on-a-Scooter takes the A-Train. LIVE TR, 8/29 - 9/11/2015 - Page 16 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Great morning at the window!! SO glad you made it out there! I'm sure there isn't another guest as excited as you, or as knowledgeable!!
Hope you are able to find a good balance between rest and enjoying what you really want to do in the park.
Lots of continued
How nice that your day of rest coincided with the poor weather. Worked out well! What a sweet gift basket! I was so hoping you'd make it to the vet window today. Such a sweet welcome from Maralyn!
What an amazing time you are having so far, even though you never made it out of your room Sunday as some incredible "Disney Magic" more than made up for it on a dreary and stormy day! You can't beat it, but seems you enjoyed yourself and that gift basket is something else and thoughtful!
A nice start to the day at the vet window and can't believe what great friends you have there not only to care for you, but remember you and know how much love you have for these unique and beautiful creatures which you care for so much as they do!
You are a very special person Laurie and there are not many people I can say that enjoys life, people and all of the special creatures of this planet as much as you do! (Even though we've never met. although it feels like we have from your correspondence on PP and comments in my TRs! )
I've always been impressed with your knowledge of animals and how much you've traveled to various destinations throughout the world (as I love doing!) and enjoy so much sharing these experiences with all of us here!

Your gift basket brought a tear to my eye, it was such a thoughtful gift! I'm so happy you were able to make it to the vet window and I enjoyed seeing your pictures of AK. It is such a beautifully themed park. I'm a bit embarrassed to ask, but where are the kangaroos? All the times we've been there, I don't think I've seen them.
It's hard to describe where the 'roos are.... If you're headed to Harambe from Discovery Island, you turn to the right onto one of the Tree of Life trails just across from the small gift shop that used to have children's clothes (I don't know what's in there now!). Keep going down the path until you're almost at the tree. The kangaroos are on the right. There used to be only four of them, but now there are at least six, maybe more!

Winged Encounter is a wonderful addition. I love to see the birds flying with no netting above them. The feeling I get when the train arrives at Conservation Station is amazing. I can hardly wait for them to open the doors so I can scoot down the path!

It's working out well, Colleen! If the weather cooperates I hope to do more tomorrow.

Maralyn is an amazing person. She's 77 and still working full-time. She loves animals and has travelled all over the world volunteering and learning about them.

Wondering, do you have a connection to the zoo in Boston as well?
I volunteered at the Franklin Park Zoo 45 years ago ! I don't go there often because it's not in a very safe part of the city to get to without a car. It used to be a terrible place for the animals, but is now much improved. I love that photo with Maralyn, too!
WOW! What a great day at the window for you, I'm so so happy you were able to get there. The gift basket was super sweet, you are loved by many that is for sure!
Hope some rest gets you another great morning tomorrow at AK.
Laurie - I just found your trip. I am sorry that hubs and I will miss you by a week. Your gift basket brought tears to my eyes, and thinking of this as your farewell tour made my heart ache, yet knowing how you love and live life, I can't imagine any different plans for you. Hugs and pixies my friend.

I'm hoping for a longer day at AK today. The window followed by the safari and Pangani if I can manage and the weather cooperates!

So great to hear from you, Terri. I'm really sorry that I won't get to see you. I hope you're going to continue with your cruise TR.... nudge, nudge. I waved at you on Saturday morning as my train chugged through Jacksonville!
Laurie, I am so thrilled that you made it to your favorite spot!! Your park pictures are beautiful and the photo of you and Maralyn is so sweet. You can see how happy you both are to see each other!! I love how the CM's truly treat you like family! What a wonderful experience for you!!
I'm so glad that you were able to make it to your beloved AK and the vet window. How nice that Marilyn was there and that Lidia had prepared the way for you. When DD and I were in AK last May, we were surprised by the Winged Encounter. We were strolling out of the park and suddenly heard a loud swoosh overhead. When we looked up the macaws were winging by back to their homes apparently. I had no idea that there was that little show.
I'm so glad that you made it to AK and the vet window yesterday! What a nice welcome you received! I haven't heard of Winged Encounter before... it's looks great!
Laurie! Why didn't you tell me about this?!? I just found this report and will be jumping in to follow your adventure. I may not post as much as I normally do, but I'll be trying to keep up with you in spirit.
