Island dreams – a weekend away in the Isle of Man COMPLETED 7/15 - Page 16 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I've gotten to the top of page 4 at my extremely long layover today, but I guess I'll just have to catch up later. So far, just so beautiful and I love castles! We decided to nix Ireland from our upcoming trip but I would like to go back and see Ireland and Scotland one day and I think a pop over to the Isle of Man might be in the mix!

Oh wow - now that would be a cool trip! Keep me posted on any plans you make and hopefully one day we will get to meet up!
Sunday 15 June – part seven: it’s just as well we didn’t walk here!
As soon as we walked into the Creek Inn, I spotted our table reserved right by the door, so we grabbed it. All I can say is thank goodness I did reserve it, as we saw various people walk in, all of whom were told that the place was full. Apparently, there were tables still outside and in another room, but not where we were.
I loved this clock – very unusual!
We settled down and perused the menu. I could tell I still wasn’t feeling 100%, as items that I usually love, like baked Camembert, and deep fried Brie (do you see any pattern here? ) just did not appeal to me at all. Instead, for appetiser, I went for the smoked salmon, asparagus and chive roulade and this was absolutely superb. Had it not been for the fact that it came with far too much raw red onion on it (yuck!) it would’ve got a full 10!
Mark went for the Piri Piri prawns with coriander dressing, and apparently they had a bit of a kick to them…
For entrée, I went for the fresh Manx crab salad, and wow, what a lot of crab turned up:
However, the only problem I had with this dish is that the salad had cheese on it, and to me, the strong taste of the cheese with the strong taste of the crab just didn’t go at all. Such a shame…
Mark really surprised me by getting the Cajun spiced seabreem fillets with King prawns and citrus butter. I tried a bit of the seabreem, and that was absolutely lovely, and not really spicy at all. He said afterwards that the dish could’ve done with a bit more kick to it.
For dessert, I went for the chocolate truffle with the soft raspberry centre, and this was a really bad choice. It was obviously bought in, as it tasted like it had come from a packet. Not nice at all.
Mark had the chocolate fudge cake, and I think he made the better choice of the two of us.
The service in here was pretty good, given how busy they were, although we did chat to one of the servers when we paid the bill, and she told us it’s usually busier in here. The whole thing, with tip, came to £60, which wasn’t bad for a three course meal, although it wasn’t cheap. Then again, it had generally been a good meal in a nice atmosphere.

When we came out of there, we still had time to see Peel Castle. I had thought of walking, but Mark suggested driving over there as well, and I’m glad he did, as it was quite a drive. Admittedly, when we got there, there was a pedestrian bridge, but even that would’ve been quite a hike. I think we’d have had time to get to the castle, and would then have had to turn back again.
We found a car park, and at first I thought it was full, as there were lots of cars coming out, but we must’ve just hit it at the wrong or the right moment, depending on your view, as once we got in, there were plenty of spaces.
We parked up, and headed out, admiring this at the entrance to the car park…
From here, we had some wonderful views over the town…
… and of course there was the castle dominating the landscape.
I was surprised to see Mark's meal was veg-friendly! I expect to see steak on his plate! Sounded like a good dinner on his side of the table, but small issues with each of your courses. Too bad!
I guess that clock goes back in time...
Glad your meals were pretty good, if missing a few things here and there. That chocolate cake looked delicious!
Beautiful views across the water!

I just love old castles. I can't wait to hear about Peel castle. They have such stories to tell. All that crab looks yummy. I agree it doesn't mix with strong cheese though.

Liked the museum which was quite well done! Sorry, to hear about the stong fish smell there! Funny, with Mark crashing the ferry in the simulator!
Your dinner looked very good even though there were a few flaws with it. In general, I don't think fish and cheese mix that well. Some nice photos of the town and Peel Castle.

Okay finally able to catch up. The museum was very interesting, full of amazing history. The food looked very appetizing, but I love all your food photos! Photos of the town is very beautiful!
Catching up...Hope you are having a wonderful cruise right now!
I hate when you get that motion sickness feeling. I get that every so often too and really only laying down and closing my eyes for a while can kick it away.
