Let's Start at the very beginning - PTR:August 17-31 2014 - Page 16 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! Love the plans for your relaxing day and your Epcot day sounds perfect. My kids loved the passports and hte kidcot stations, last year when we brought my neice she had a ball.
What a great end of the school gift - the girls got Disney Infinity for Christmas last year and they love it.
I think Evan will like the passports. He is very social so I think being able to interact with the CM will be right up his alley.

My mom actually bought the game off of me to give to him as an Easter gift so he will get it this weekend

Today’s plans were originally going to be for tomorrow but after reading Laurie’s (lauriep)
TR I changed it to Tuesday because I’m planning on touring Conservation Station and a visit to the vet window. And they no longer do the procedures on Wednesdays. Thanks Laurie for the information.
This morning will also be our second breakfast (hobbit reference intended) entering the park before opening time. We are having breakfast at Tusker House at 8am. Oh boy did I go back and forth on this one. I kept debating on breakfast or lunch. I thought lunch and spending the entire day in the park and figured lunch would be a nice break. But after I decided to try Boma I thought the food here might be too similar and also too adventuresome for the boys so changed it back to a safer breakfast. Plus with doing breakfast we can enter the park early and experience that (so this trip we have HS and AK early entries).
The breakfast will be new for all of us however I did the Donald’s Breakastaurus way back when AK first opened (1998?). I suppose this is really the closest thing to that breakfast.
After breakfast we are heading over to Africa to catch the first train to Rafiki’s Planet Watch. This will be new for everyone but me. Although last time I was there it was still just called Conservation Station. Last trip we were going to do this but the train station was full, we were hot and tired and we waited like 10 minutes with no train in sight and just decided to leave.
I have read about Laurie’s adventures at the vet windows for a number of her trips and they always seem so fascinating. I hope the boys will be interested. I know Laurie knows many of the staff which makes her stories even more interesting. We, however, don’t know anyone so I’m just hoping we can get a good view and maybe (pixies please) a really “cool” animal.
We will spend some time touring around and looking at the exhibits (Conservation Station, Habitat habit, Affection Station and the Wilderness Explorers) and then take the train back to Africa.
From there we will hit up anything in Africa or Asia we missed or want to do again. At this point I’m just thinking MJT and It’s Tough to be a Bug but one never knows how our earlier days would have been. If/when we get hungry we will eat. This is our last scheduled day in AK for the trip so we’ll stay as late as the boys want in order to cover everything. As we are leaving we will check out the trails in the Oasis.
Afternoon break at hotel and then the evening is scheduled to be at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Come to think of it this will be our last scheduled visit to the Studios too. At this point in time the studios really seem to have shortened hours closing 8 and 9pm during the week. I’m hoping as spring and summer progress that those hours get extended a little. If we can stay later in the park then we can have a longer afternoon break. But for now it is an 8pm closing so we need to arrive a little earlier than I’d like, around 5pm.
If we can get in around 5pm I want to see The Captain Jack Sparrow show – what is its official name(?) and Walt, One Man’s Dream. These will be new for Mom, Eric and Evan, And the Pirate show new to me. I did see OMD before but the details always change and I had to leave before seeing the film so it is sort of new to me too.
I’d like to get both of those done before our dinner at SciFi Dine in, new to everyone but me.
I went to this restaurant over Christmas break in 1992 believe it or not. There were 6 of us so we had no hitch-hikers. I think the boys will like it; however they don’t even know what a drive in movie is.
Side note: I saw the original Star Wars (1978) in a drive-in. I was watching the movie Twister about a month ago on regular TV and Evan came in and the drive-in movie theater seen was playing. He has been obsessed with tornadoes so I thought he might like the movie but he didn’t really care. He has since talked about drive-ins and the cars parked and the boxes(speakers) hanging on the car windows. I’d let him watch Grease (drive-in scene) accept I think it is too adult for him.
Anyway back to the HS…
Dinner is at 6 and if the park closes at 8 we may have time for one or 2 quick things so we’ll see what if anything we can squeeze in.
After closing we are heading back to DTD to do our major shopping at World of Disney. By this point in the trip Evan and Eric should have a good idea of what they want to buy. Since we have the car we won’t have to lug everything around and we can get all our stuff for everyone at home. I’m hoping to have a dog sitter so I’ll probably buy a gift for her and I’m sure Eric will want to get gifts for his family. If we missed any stores on our other visits to DTD this will be the time to go and maybe a visit to Ghirardelli if we are hungry. That will all depend on if we had dessert already at SciFi.
Firsts:
Evan – AK early park entry, Breakfast at TH, RPW, hopefully vet window, Captain Jack show, One Man’s Dream, SciFi Dine In
Me – AK early entry, Breakfast at TH, hopefully vet window, Captain Jack show
Mom – Same as Evan
Eric – Same as Evan

I think you might be very pressed for time with dinner at 6pm at DHS if hours don't extend, but I love Tusker House first thing! AK is so serene in the morning
I'm glad I inspired you to try for the vet window on a Tuesday! Even if you don't get an animal you and the boys consider "cool", trust me, it will be very cool to see them worked on. If you recognize any of the CMs on the guest side of the window from my reports (especially Mike, Marilyn, Rick), tell them I say "Hi!" Also, when you pass the barns on the train to Rafiki's you can see the back side of "Pride Rock", where the lions hang out on the safari. Lately, the younger male lion has taken to spending time on that side and you get a really good look at him. If the boys are filling out the Wilderness Explorer books and getting badges, there are several at Rafiki's, and one that is right in the vet window.
PassPorter's Free-Book to Walt Disney World It’s hard to believe anything is free at Walt Disney World; but there are actually a number of things you can get or do for little to no cost. This e-book documents over 200 free or cheap tips to do before you go and after you arrive. You could save a considerable amount of money following these tips. Perhaps more importantly; you can discover overlooked attractions and little-known details most people whiz by on their way to spend money. Click here to see free sample pages from the e-book! Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. A club pass includes access to all our other e-books; e-worksheets; super-size photos; and more! This e-book is also available for separate purchase in the PassPorter Online Store for just $5.95.
Plans sound great for AK We did the early breakfast at TH a couple of years ago, it's pretty cool to walk all the way back to Africa with no one else around. Hope you get to see something neat at the vet window!

I'm hoping for a little later hours at HS for the week. Keeping my fingers crossed

Thanks for the info - we will look for the lion. I'm lloking forward to the window. I think it will be neat whatever animal we get.

My only concern is if one of the clips is scary as Evan doesn't do scary.

First a quick Wrigley update, he continues to improve. Well I don't know if improve is the best word. He isn't getting any worse but I don't think he will ever recover to what he was before all this happened. He is off 2 of his medicines so that just leaves one more that he should come off of in 2 weeks. I have given him a little more freedom during the day so he is allowed to jump on and off the couch. But when I'm not home he doesn't get the stairs.
I do see him on occasion use the doggie steps I purchased to get up onto the couch and he has to use them to get up onto the bed at night. I’ll be happy when my bed is no longer like climbing over a barricade.
My concerns are that if I give him free run of the house during the day he will reinjure himself. Most of the time the dogs lay around sleeping, but when the mail carrier brings the mail or if anyone walks by with a dog, Wrigley and Trixie go crazy. They run from the window in the living room (by the couch) to the window in my bedroom. With the stairs blocked off they can't do that running back and forth.
I'm thinking even when he is recovered I'll still keep the stairs blocked off or at least my door shut. The vet has said he has seen on more than one occasion where a dog gets 90-95% better and then reinjures himself. Only problem with keeping my bedroom door shut is that Trixie sometimes has accidents.
She is an older dog and tiny so her bladder is small. I have tile on my bedroom floor with just small bath rugs so if she pees on one I just throw it into the wash. Now she is having some accidents in the living room.
I'm now picking up the water during the day and saving my money for some new carpet. But won't be doing that until the home is dog free, probably in a few years. For now my spot bot is getting a work out.
