Make your choice Adventurous Stranger...A Goin Solo PTR - Page 16 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I am finally caught up with work so I can fill you all in on the past weekend's events.
Thursday, July 21st: why did I even show up at work for 3 hours??
I arrived at work at 8am and let Jennie #1 know how grateful I was to have just completed my last commute in traffic. My new commute? 10 minutes!! I got as much work done as the day before a Disney trip, totally should have taken a full day on got to sleep in late. Duh!
11 am I picked up the keys to my new apartment (Yay!) and unloaded the Tahoe. It was about 95 degrees at this point and by the time I got all the boxes inside, I was a hot mess. Literally. I unpacked everything and busted down the boxes so I could chuck them and have room for more boxes
I then headed back to the old house and loaded up another round of boxes Then I drove (16 miles!) to the Uhaul place and hitched the 6x12 trailer onto my truck. Quickly realized I did't have an adapter to hook up the electrical socket for the trailer lights Luckily, they had some to purchase and I was on my way. For the record, my truck DOES NOT like hauling things; she bucked and kicked and almost overheated (so did I). I swung by the store to pick up my new mattress and finally made it back to the apt to unload yet again.
Now, I will state this for the record. I cannot back up a Tahoe with a 6x12 trailer attached to it. At all. After I unloaded the truck, I just figured I would whip that baby around and park in the RV parking lot until a friend got out of work and helped me move the mattresses into the apt. Not so much. I ended up parking cock-eyed taking up way to much room, frustrated, sweaty and red faced. I gave up, texted Scott to get to my place asap before I blew up the trailer or punched the next person who asked me to move so they could get around me. Not one person stopped to help - probably due to their lack of experience turning 25 feet worth of truck/trailer in a narrow parking lot.
I just left the truck where it was and continued to unload boxes until help arrived. Help wasn't really helpful at all once it arrived. Lack of food, lack of civility (it was my ex boyfriend after all - I'm surprised he even helped me) and the heat all boiled together and the result was me practically tossing him out of my truck, flinging the truck in reverse and stomping on the gas - passerby be damned - I was getting out of that driveway right then! I gunned it and holy cow, did it in two attempts. Success!
I drove over to Jennie #1 & Joe's house to drop of the trailer since we were taking their Yukon XL to Jersey (fyi, she has no problem hauling a trailer) then I drove back to the old place one more time to grab the last of my stuff and my clothes. We grabbed a pizza (at least I think that's what I ate, could have been poop on a cracker at that point and I would have shoved it in my pie hole) and I went back home for unpacking.
Have you ever spent two hours moving items from one place to another and not gain any ground? Yeah, that was my night. No progress. I gave up around 11pm and climbed in the shower. Oh, forgot. I had to run to Bed, Bath and Beyond because with all the planning and lists I did, I neglected to get shower curtain hooks. I'm not going to lie kids. At that point I was riper than a banana but I had to go to the store. I was the stinky kid you hold your breath when passing. Yes, that was me. Finally, before I peeled the fresh paint of my walls, I took a much needed shower and promptly passed out.
God Doesn't moving just stink. I hope I never have to do it again.
Glad to hear you have a safe trip and good luck with all the unpacking.
Every time I think about how our house doesn't really fit our family anymore (with Stitch in the house these days), I shudder at the thought of moving all our crap. I'm going to need a crowbar to get out my house!
Last time I moved was in 90 degree weather with no power (remember the huge electricity outage that affected the Eastern half of the U.S.). I feel your "moving" pain!!

I am a master at moving. I moved three times in 2008 alone but up until 2008 I moved on average every 2 years. I never get used to the unpacking and finding a home for everything.

Due to my relocating so often, I have streamlined my possessions down to bare bones minimum necessites and then all my Disney stuff.

Oh yeah, I remember that. I lived in FL then. Luckily, when I moved to FL it was in April and it was a cool spring. Every time I moved in NJ (or out of it) it's been blazing hot. Go figure.

How funny, I printed it out as well so I can highlight what I've had prior years in one color, those I must have again in another and then new items in yet another color. I also google items I'm not familiar with and jot down notes. Once the prices come out, I'll build a spreadsheet so I know how much to load on my wristlet gift card from last year. What a dork right?!?
Uh! Moving does suck! I vowed when we do it again (if ever) we were hiring someone. I couldn't watch my Dad & FiL turn my dresser over and push it up the stairs when we moved to our townhouse. OH and all my jewelry was in the top drawer which became a big 'ol jumbled mess! (The drawers are screwed in so we left them in.)
Aren't you glad it's all over with? And now you can concentrate on food at Disney! Much more important!

When I was in college, only once did I make it through the whole year without moving dorm rooms.
But we bought our house 10 years ago this summer and I'm a collector. I try hard not to be, but I am. So I'm definitely NOT streamlined in anyway.

Well, if it does make you a dork (which I don't think it does), then I am right there with you. MY BFF and I are planning a "Drink Around the World" trip for December and I have made a list of all the drinks we may even remotely try, so I can figure out how much to save. It's frugal , not dorky
