The Surviving Deployment Trip Report, Updated 10/18 COMPLETE!! - Page 16 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

This is a good idea to plan a trip with your daughter during your husband's deployment. I have a good friend whose husband is a pilot in the military and he is going to Texas for training (special way to fly helicopters in sand storms) before his 9-months deployment to Afghanistan in the fall. And what she does when he is on deployment is have girls night out at her house where we have potlucks and movies. We have a good time. Her kids are older and have moved out, but i think planning things like that helps.

I love the idea of the bear. He is so cute. Also that is so great that you have a trip planned with your DH in October. It's coming pretty soon. Two trip to look forward to. Also love the gifts for your DD. The T-shirt is so cute and she looks so happy. That was a very thoughtful idea you had. I hope everything worked out for your car and that they fixed it for you.
I was super behind on the reading and could never get caught up enough to post, I the PTR so far though! Your daughter is super talented and i think she would love the animators studio! just a side note...my mother was stationed at Lackland when she was pregnant with me and I was nearly born on that airforce base but she flew home to TN at the last minute That AFB holds a special place in my heart for that reason!
Love the Bear idea....such a cool idea and love that you take home places and photograph it all!
I guess you know i'm going with free dining too so its been like musical chairs with the ADR's so I know your pain *L*
Love the gifts that you bought, I can tell your DD did too!
Cant wait to hear more and congrats on the weightloss! WOW!
Congrat on the weight loss. I always gain weight when i go to Disney. The food is so good and eating in restaurants all the time (i don't want to go on holidays to prepare my meals, i feel like restaurants are part of the holiday) and all these yummy desserts, i have to have them, so i naturally overeat and certainly eat more than when i'm home. So i always have to be careful when i get back home. When i returned from my trip in May, i started walking two hours a day and go back to normal eating. But yea i give myself permission to overeat at Disney, since i feel it's my holiday. So it is better to lose the weight before your holiday, so that you can treat yourself during your holiday.

I just spoke with my DH (he is currently training at Lackland AFB) and he confirms the earlier statement about a weekly Graduation and Flight 601 (his flight) is Graduating that weekend. I will be there to see him I wish I had read this a week earlier and I could have stayed an extra day and had a meet and greet with you and your DD. I am actually flying back on 9/13 in the afternoon after attending church with my DH that morning. I wuld like to PM you about your weight loss if that is ok with you? I have been struggling in this area and can use some tips.
PM away! I'd be happy to talk with you. So, Denice, it will probably be smarter for me to call one of the other AFBs instead of Lackland? That's what I'm figuring anyway.
I'm sorry we'll miss each other. We'll head to San Antonio after church so we'll be passing each other along the way. By the way, congrats on your DHs graduation!
LOVE the sketches - they're incredible! The characters will love to see the time she took to do them so perfectly.
I'm really sorry that we'll be basically missing you - you and your daughter seem like such great people, it would've been nice to have you be the first PPers that we could have met.
Your trip sounds fantastic, and I can't wait to read more of both this and the other TR - I'm enjoying following both.
Also, I can't tell you how much I love Michael the Bear. That's going to be such a great surprise for Husband Michael.

Thanks! Victoria has worked really hard on the sketches. I'm sure I'll post them with the TR when we've gotten characters to sign the page. They look really good.
It would be very cool to meet. Next time!
I think my DH will like Michael the Bear, too. He'll appreciate that we thought about him. Thanks for reading!!
Love the Cheshire cat shirt and bag. I love the Cheshire cat, so I am glad there is some merchandise out there. I looked and looked two years ago for a costume for MNSSHP and couldn't find one.
Not much longer now. Hope you have a great trip.

I would say to try Lackland still, as they still have other rooms (there are like 4 or 5 different lodging areas on the base) You might still be able to get something...

I agree I know that they keep a certain amount of rooms aside for the dependants of active service members so I would give it a shot the worst they can say is no.
Just found your 2 Pre-TRs and read through them!! You have some great plans and ideas!!
I love Victoria's sketches. You definitley have to pencil in the Animation show at DHS!! It is tailor made for her. Your Daddy Bear is just adorable and the idea to do the book just for him is so .
And just fyi - I was at WDW 2 weeks ago and had an ADR for 2 at 50's PT that I needed to upgrade to 3. We couldn't do it upon arrival, but they told me to just let them know when we checked in. Sheri (skateycat) checked us in and when they said "That's for 2?" she just said "No, 3." and it was fine. They are very accommodating there.
