Trip Report "Dreams Really Can Come True" 6/1/09-6/8/09 - COMPLETED 7/19 - Page 16 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

You are cracking me up, love the reference to cranky and whiny land!! I can just feel your excitement and love the details! As for the bread at Tony's, I think you actually have to request it now! The last time we were there, they did not bring it out to us and when we questioned why we hadn't gotten any bread, they said we had to ask, maybe they were wasting too much. Not sure!
Keep the updates coming!
Thanks! I'll go back again and request the bread.

Thanks! Unfortunately, we did make more visits there, but all is forgotten now!

Okay folks, I've figured out multi-quotes - watch out now! (I've also figured out how to shrink the pictures down so they aren't so huge!)
The Plan:
touring plan “Day Two Magic Kingdom” Morning EMH, arrive early to see opening ceremony, Fantasyland for Dumbo, Peter Pan’s Flight, PhilharMagic, It’s a Small World, Buzz Lightyear, fp for Splash Mountain, BTMR, Pirates o C, Pirate Tutorial, Splash Mountain, Casey’s Corner, Judge’s Tent and see Toontown, SS Celebration, back to AKL, rest, Contemporary for Chef Mickey’s.
(We ran out of gas last night, so we didn’t see Spectromagic or Wishes. We weren’t going to see them this night either b/c of late ADR, or so we thought…)
What Really Happened:
I set my alarm for 6am, but what happened was like pretty much every other day: we let the boys sleep. I got up and got ready for the day, and basically futzed around the room until I just couldn’t take it any more cruelly woke them up. I probably should have gotten some coffee and went out on the balcony, but a. the animals were still sleeping and b. despite the room being very nice, the coffee service didn’t contain any sugar or creamer, which to me, is the whole point of drinking coffee - besides the caffeine.
We eventually got ourselves together and made our way out to the bus stop about 9:30. We had the whole bus to ourselves! (All the other know-it-alls were probably already at the park.)
We were and by this time, I knew that my precious touring plans were gone out the window for the week. I had told DH about Main Street Bakery but you could already smell it when you hit MS. We joked that they must pump the scent out onto the street. From the reviews, I had braced myself for a long line, but it wasn’t that bad. The CM at the door had a Miss Piggy trading pin.
I have to backtrack here. I had gotten myself and the kids 10 pins each off of eBay for about $1.70 each. I ended up with Fozzie Bear in my set – I love the Muppets! (I’m 39, so that was prime-time tv for me as a kid.) DS7 had decided to trade for hidden Mickeys and DS4 wanted all Mickey pins. I didn’t know what I was going to trade for; I would wait and see. I made my first trade yesterday and it was for a Gonzo. Okay I knew what I was going for – the Muppets pin set! I remembered seeing it on eBay, but I couldn’t remember who was in it. I wasn’t really commando about it yet, so I told myself I would talk to the CM after breakfast. Boy that was dumb!
We got in the fast-moving line and eyed the pastries. The Cinnamon Rolls are definitely the rock stars of the menu. In fact, they sit proudly at the end of the line after all the other nice, but normal looking pastries. We ordered 2 of those bad boys, a cheese danish and some grapes. (4 snacks down.) The sitting area is small, but a table quickly opened up. Okay, all the reviews were right – the cinnamon rolls not only looked good, they were delicious! They ended up being DH’s favorite food of our whole trip. We had some G2s (light Gatorades) and we were sufficiently fueled up. I went to look for the CM with Miss Piggy and he was gone! That was the last time I let a pin get away – lesson learned.
We were heading towards the castle to get to Fantasyland and Dumbo, but there was a crowd forming up in front of it. It was the “Dream Along with Mickey” show! We were right on time for the show and scored excellent bench seats in the hub on the right side, with a perfect view of the stage.
this is the only picture I got of princesses all week!
ooohh Maleficent, you’re so bad, you’re almost good!
After the great show was over (Maybe it should be named, “Dream Along with Donald”?) we again headed toward the castle for an appointment with Dumbo. But wait! What’s that fun music? It was the Move It! Shake It! Celebrate It! Street Party heading right toward us! This time we were in front of the stage to the right of the castle, right on the curb. (I made sure to look behind me so that we didn’t just stop in front of someone who had been waiting…) The Street Party is a parade that stops in front of the castle around the hub that ends up being a party.
Mickey and Donald!
The “crowd control” CMs are all singing and dancing and the boys had a good time getting down with Frozone and the gang. At first, when the CMs gestured for people to come out into the street to dance, the boys just stood there. They eventually “got it”, and got their groove on. A “seasoned” mama got out there and showed all the young folks how it was done. It was really a lot of fun. (How those actors/CMs stay hyper, dancing in that sun, I don’t know. True professionals!) The Party ended with a conga line and to my surprise, DH got out there and got into it! It was a good show and all my boys got to be a parade. (Note for anxious parents like me: The CMs make sure that your little ones get back to you after dancing in the street…)
(continues from Street Party)
It was getting hot by that time, and I was glad that we brought the camelbaks with us. The castle was still blocked off from the previous show, so we went to Fantasyland the other way. We found Dumbo (me and the kids, “Dumbooooo!”) and got in line. It was supposed to be a 30 min wait, but I don’t think we waited that long. It is definitely a kid’s ride, but now I can say that I’ve ridden the famous Dumbo! (Even though the line wasn’t bad, the lollipops that I had stashed away came in handy…)
The wait was only 10 min for PhilharMagic, so we decided to try that. I purposely did not explain any rides or attractions to DH because I didn’t want to influence his reactions. (Plus he didn’t ask!) I just told him that it was like a 3D movie. I think he ended up enjoying it more than the kids! It really is a cool 4D attraction – Disney really did a good job as usual. (No spoilers from me, ha ha newbies!)
We walked by “it’s a small world”. There was a line, but it was moving well. We found the stroller park and got in line. I think they must have been doing some refurbishment on the outside, b/c it was just a beige wall. It was different on the inside of course. We spent the rest of the trip saying, “Is it like It’s a Small World?” and “No, this one isn’t like It’s a Small World.” My husband gave me a look after the ride was over and I cracked up and said, “Well, it’s a classic.” Maybe we should have done PhilharMagic after Small World…
Next we headed for Frontierland for Splash Mountain fps and BTMR. I am SO GLAD we got the stroller. DS4 would have been through. Looking back at the video, I can see that it was getting crowded. I can’t remember how long the standby line was, maybe 40 min?
We headed over to BTMR. I have good memories of riding this in the rain during the beginnings of a thunder storm. (My contacts almost came out, it was raining so hard!) I also remember standing in line for a loooong time. The standby line was only a 30 min wait this time, so we got in the queue.
Again, we did not actually wait 30 min. What we did do was crack up at walking through all the twisty-turny lines. We ended up only waiting about 15 min or so. This was to be the boy’s first “real” roller coaster ride, and they came through with flying colors. My cautious 7yo was nervous, but he had fun. The 4yo had a blast!
The fps for Splash Mountain didn’t ripen until 4:25, so we decided to get something to eat. Everyone agreed with hotdogs, so off to Casey’s we went. On the way there, we walked through Adventureland. There was a group of kids laughing and screaming so we went to investigate. It was spitting Tikis! The boys just had to get some of that action.
I love this picture! Check out the smart kid getting his hat wet. I love the little one the right side with her hands covering her ears – too cute!
You wanna talk about big food? Well Casey’s has got it – big dogs and bigger drinks. The serving size of the corndog nuggets was big too but DS4 had no problems. (no pics ) We sat outside where we had a close encounter with the birds. A white one with the long, pointy beak (ibis?) stared right at my son like it was trying to psych him into giving up a nugget. I reminded everyone that we DO NOT feed the birds (even though other people did ). They eventually went away and didn’t bother us anymore. The piano man came out and started tickling the ivories. The talent at Disney is incredible! He accepted requests from folks and even played Happy Birthday for DS4. (Actually, he stood up and announced to everyone that it was Titus’ birthday, then played Happy Birthday. I loved those pins!) DS4's birthday isn't until August, but I just couldn't leave him out!
We were headed back to Frontierland and decided to give in to the wiles of the mister-fan man. The kids gave up some of their Disney Dollars, but it was money well spent. (They still play with them outside now at home.) We somehow got caught on the sidewalk along the river by the “Celebrate a Dream Come True” parade. We got to see a little of it, but the CMs were doing a good job moving people along. We didn’t know where we were going (I’m usually a very good navigator, but with kids and crowds, well, you know…). We ended up crossing over after the parade passed and ended up in Adventureland again. We were carried along the current with the rest of the crowd and found ourselves in front of Pirates of the Caribbean. (Looking back at the video, you can see that it was getting pretty packed!) We walked right onto the ride (theme of the week!) and got prepared for a classic. The boys like Pirates and Jack Sparrow, so they weren’t that spooked by the dark, but I could tell they were a little nervous. I just kept pointing out the funny things, like the chickens and the dogs and they were okay. When the ride was over, we spent some time in the gift shop and I got some pin backs. I was already having issues with losing them. We were rolling along so well, that I kind of forgot about the Pirate Tutorial – they did too so we were okay.
Carrying around Band-Aids and Neo-to-Go paid off then because DS4 somehow tripped “up” the rocks outside of POC and got a pretty good cut. Band-Aids always make it better so he was okay. We finally headed towards Adventureland and Splash Mountain. We had a few minutes until the fps ripened, so we were just lollygaggin’ when we saw a line for our first character greet – Goofy! He was decked out in old west duds and we quickly got in line. I’m glad we did b/c it got longer fast. I got the boys ready with their autograph books and (clickable!) Sharpies. Those Sharpies would come in handy for other people, including the little girl in front of us, when their wack ball-point pens gave out on them. The “handler” told us we were going to be the last ones before Goofy took a break – hee hee! He was a perfect gentleman, taking his time with the boys and autographs and pictures. (He was a little different that night at Chef Mickey’s. Maybe he was tired.) My favorite picture of our trip was taken here and is my sig pic.
no time to compose frame properly – sorry Goofy!
We happily headed towards the last ride of the day – Splash Mountain. Again, I forgot to check the standby time. (Did a little moonlighting for touringplans.com – shhh!) I can’t say how much I fastpasses! We moved quickly to the logs and got in.
I’m not really into big drops – I mostly feel the need, the need for speed. I wasn’t looking forward to the drop at the end, but I had to put up a good front for my boys. It was fun and I (disappointingly) didn’t get splashed but DH got it pretty good. I was in the 1st middle row on the right and he was in the 2nd middle row, right behind me (for all you drench buffs).
We were content and ready to go. It had been about 7 hours of sun and fun and we needed to get back to the resort to rest and get ready for Chef Mickey’s. We stopped by MS Bakery on the way out for breakfast for DH (guess what he got? ) and headed back “home”. My friend with the Miss Piggy pin was gone. Oh well…

Can you tell me how to do this too, please? I have not been able to figure this out.
Hi! This worked for me: if you are in microsoft, you just open up your picture. I first make a copy so I won't mess up the original. (This is using Microsoft Picture Manager which is what usually comes with computers nowadays.) In the menu bar, click on "Picture" and go down to "resize". A box on the side opens up and you can choose "predefined width x height" There are several choices that will resize your pic, I think we have to try to be around 400x400. Click okay, then your pic will change to the right size. Save your pic!
If this doesn't work, you can try some tips in the "Garage" thread of the forum. I hope this helps!
Your pictures are awesome!!! So glad your trip seems to be living up to your dreams. Looks like you have laid the ground work for many fun trips in the future. Can't wait to read more!
