It's Five O'Clock Somewhere--Mother/Daughter Trip #3--UPDATED 5/14/09 - Page 16 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Even with only three characters breakfast looked like it was great fun. Glad you had tons of fun over at DHS and more character interaction as well. Love the picture of you, your mom and Bolt...
Day 3, Part 2: Working Those Arm Muscles, a Pretty Good Meal, and I Get a Little Toasty Again
Working Those Arm Muscles, a Pretty Good Meal, and I Get a Little Toasty Again
We had just finished up our pretzel and drinks and made our way back to Pixar Place as our FP time was fast approaching. While I was throwing the trash away, mom was talking to a CM and then waved me over. The CM had two of the five Chip and Dale Aloha pins that I was looking for on this trip. We completed our trade, and I thanked the CM profusely. As we walked into Pixar Place, the clock had just turned to 3:05pm, so we walked right in and were up the stairs immediately. Mom was kind of disappointed that she didn’t get to see the whole queue but she had seen my pictures from November and was much happier getting to ride quickly. We grabbed a quick self-portrait with our 3D glasses on before heading down the stairs. I gave her the basics of how to work the shooter and she was ready to go. We were directed to our ride vehicle, put the glasses back on and our lap bars down, grabbed out guns and we were off.
We were both having a blast and by the time we got to the bonus round, we were both thinking that our arms couldn’t take much more. I did have my highest score ever so far and got the beaver. Mom did pretty darn good herself for a first timer. She was a least more accurate than me.
Mom asked if there were anymore characters to see, and I remembered the Monster’s Inc meet and greet area. We headed in that direction. We walked right in and there were 4 families before us. Sulley wasn’t there but Mike was. The CM was rushing people through the line pretty quickly so we were in and out in about 5 minutes.
After we finished up with Mike, we headed back toward the front of the park. We decided to grab one more ride and decided on the Great Movie Ride. Along the way, we saw Lightning McQueen and Mater out but the line was ridiculous so we skipped it. We made it to GMR, and it was at most a five minute wait. We got the gangster scene and enjoyed our trip through the movies. Once we exited, mom wanted to look at the pins again in case she missed anything the first time around. She did find a jeweled Minnie pin and proceeded to buy it. Once that was taken care of, we headed out of the park via a stop at most of the stores along the way. We made it through without any purchases and out to the bus stop back to the Poly.
Once we made it back to the Poly, mom stated we hadn’t had a drink all day and thought we should stop by the pool bar for a frosty adult beverage to take back to the room while we got ready for dinner. I told mom to head on up while I went and got the drinks. I got another Orange Dream for me and a mai tai for mom. When I made it back to the room, mom hadn’t even started getting ready. She was watching Wife Swap on TV. I had to laugh. I gave her mai tai to her and I went in to take a shower so mom could finish watching the show. Once I finished, mom took her turn. We were all beautified by 6:15pm and out the door to the GCH.
We decided to grab another cab as it was just easier and mom was wearing some dressier sandals that weren’t good for walking. We were at the Yacht Club within 15 minutes. We had some time to spare before we had to check-in for dinner, so we headed to the gift shop to check their offerings. Nothing caught my eye but mom was at the jewelry counter and I could tell she was debating with herself about buying something. I went over to see what she was looking at, and it was a gorgeous sterling silver Mickey head bracelet with CZ in them. She tried it on and then gave it back to the CM. She said she would think about it over dinner and would come back afterwards if she wanted to get it. In my mom’s terms, this meant that she probably wouldn’t be back even though she really wanted it. Mom walked on ahead of me, and I asked Nicole to put it on hold as I would be back after dinner. Mom was gonna get a little surprise.
We headed over to the Yachtsman Steakhouse to check-in. We checked in right at 7:00pm for our ADR. While I was at the podium, a man came and basically made his way in front of me. He said he was staying at the resort and wanted a table for five. I recognized that man from this morning at the Beach Club. It was the same man that was screaming making his displeasure unknown to the whole lobby. The hostess said it would be about five minutes to the man and then proceeded to tell mw it would be 15 minutes. Huh??? I had an ADR and this guy just walked up and was going to get a table before me. I just rolled my eyes and headed out to the hallway to find mom. Mom commented about the man and I told her what had transpired. While we were sitting down on the bench outside the restaurant, I suddenly heard a familiar voice. It was Amy (iamgrumpy) and her mom rounding the corner. Introductions and hugs all around, and they let us know that they were having dinner at Cape May Café before meeting us at Jellyrolls later in the evening. We chatted for a couple of minutes before they headed off to their dinner. Eventually, 20 minutes after checking in, our buzzer went off. We were led to a table for two back in a corner. We were definitely on our own here.
Our server came by and introduced himself as Eric. He was very nice and attentive throughout the whole meal. We started off with water and cokes while we decided on our dining choices. He returned with our drinks and a bread basket. For an appetizer, I went with the Seared Maine Diver Scallops with Diamond white cheddar risotto and aged sherry vinaigrette, while mom went with the Lobster Bisque (Maine Lobster and Creme Fraiche finished with Brandy). For the entrée, we both went with the Yachtsman Filet Mignon (8-ounce Filet with Mashed Potatoes and a Red Wine Sauce).
We both really enjoyed the appetizers and our filets were good but not as good as Le Cellier. Just our honest opinion. Once we finished up as much as we could of our steak (we both left close to half), Eric came by and cleared our table. He brought the dessert menus and gave us his recommendations. We had passed the dessert table on our way in and mom already knew what she wanted. She decided to indulge in the Antique Apple Tart, while I went with the Signature Banana Napoleon. All I have to say is that mine was delicious beyond words. Loved it! Once we finished up, we took care of settling the bill. I told mom to sign for everything and gave her the cash for the tip. I told her I had to go to the bathroom and would meet her in the lobby. She said okay while I went off on my devilish plan of getting the bracelet for mom. Here’s a look at our dining choices for the evening.
I power walked to the gift shop and found Nicole. She went and got the bracelet from the back for me. The price was a little more than what I expected but it is not often I spoil mom and have the funds to do it, so I had her ring it up. I wasn’t carrying a purse so I had to get in my pocket of my pants as best I could. Luckily the shirt I was wearing covered up the bulge it was making. . I took a bathroom break on my way back to meet mom and text Amy that we were on our way. Mom and I decided to walk over to the Boardwalk instead of catching the Friendship boat. We probably made it over there faster.
We found Amy and her mom in front of Jellyrolls and we headed in. We got our hands stamped and we all found a table (for once) in the main area in front of the pianos. Eventually a waitress came over and I started a tab even though I ended up being the only one drinking anything with alcohol. When we came in November, Chuck had gotten the Lynchburg Lemonade that was really good, so I went with that drink for the evening. We were at the end of the set with the older gentleman and black haired guy. We weren’t there five minutes before we standing up doing the motions to some song. After that episode, we settled into our seats. Amy’s mom and my mom tried to talk while Amy and I gabbed. Both moms couldn‘t believe that Amy and I could hear one another. The other two piano players came out and were awesome. Nothing against the other guys, but these two players were really fun. They played my favorite “Only the Good Die Young” and then when “Sweet Caroline” came on, Amy called Dyan so we could serenade her. At one point, they started playing “Fins” by Jimmy Buffett and I started doing the classic fins in the air. But then one stopped and was getting on everyone because there was only person who seemed to be a Buffett fan as he pointed in my direction. All of the sudden, the two started going back and forth with Disney songs. At this point, I had to take a potty break and as I headed back to the bathrooms, you walk down a bug hallway that echoes big time. I was still singing as I was walking down the hallway and into the bathroom. Thank goodness, I was all alone. I am sure anyone walking in the hallway found my signing talents hilarious. I made it back out to the table and we stayed until the guys finished their set. I closed out the tab which was three Lynchburg Lemonades, two Diet Cokes, and a Sprite. I was feeling really good. Not as tipsy as I was the first night but definitely toasty.
Amy and her mom graciously took us back to the Poly so we didn’t have to take a cab back. They dropped us off and I gave another hug to Amy and thanked them both. I told her I would see her in May. No tears, but close. Mom and I walked into the GCH and back to Tuvalu. She grabbed the mugs and went to get refills for us while I ate some chips that we had gotten previously to munch on. She returned and we discussed the plans for tomorrow. I gave mom her bracelet and she was so excited. Of course, she slapped my arm again and told me to stop buying stuff for her, but I know it was just her way of saying she liked it. I set the wake-up call because we had an early breakfast. We got ready for bed and were off to sleepy town before we knew it.
has Mickey on the side. Did she do that herself? Or buy them like that? Either way - they're fabulous!
She actually bought them at the Disney Store. The Mickey heads on the side were actually gold but Mom added the stones to them as it was more her style.
What a wonderful update - your evening looks like a lot of fun and you brought back some great memories of our wonderful meal at the Yachtsman Steakhouse.
