Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Ok, I'm in tears laughing at that! I don't know what made me laugh more, your and Zack's reaction....or "Miss Cleavage and the Chipper Twins" That's good stuff!!

And I had the same mouth covering screaming expression in our ride photo (as I was in the "sucker seat" as you call it )

Eileen, I'm so sorry that Calder hated EE! He'll be okay though! Kids are resilient!

That photo of you on Dinosaur is priceless! I must do a ride with you! Perhaps we can have a screaming contest!

Re: Put down your drink! Karen and Eileen storm WDW 6/16-22 - Thread One - COMPLETE

Ya know what? I've been so wordy that I'm already gonna have to start another thread....

Go on to THREAD TWO

After my nightmare night last night, trying to get back from the shore, I'm ready for a little re-living of the WDW trip!

For those that are interested, here's the story of our 6 hour journey from NJ to PA in a nutshell:

We were given the opportunity for a little hubby-and-me time when Mom-Mom offered to keep Calder at the shore with the Esterles (our buddies on the Grand Gathering last May) so Bob and I could do some serious catching up on the movie scene.

We had timed it well so there was absolutely no traffic coming back from NJ to Philadelphia. Suddenly, the cool breeze from the A/C stopped chilling the leg I had propped up on the dashboard. Herrrm... the windows won't power down... the radio died... Oh $#*!, the electrics are half gone. But the car was still driving. Uh, oh... now it's sputtering. Bob miraculously managed to cross six lanes of pre-bridge traffic to get us to the shoulder just as the car sputters and stalls.

We called AAA and they said they'd send a tow truck within 90 minutes. Ruh-roh... it's 7:30, and the sun will be fully down by then. We are in a "patrol area" where NJ transit assistance trucks regularly patrol for cars in trouble -- in fact, we're literally right under one of the signs. Well, someone will be along soon.......... nope, time ticks by and we never see a cop or a NJ towtruck the whole time! I start getting a little panicky after an ATV comes flying down the **shoulder** and has to do a quick lane change to swerve around us so he can go back onto the shoulder. To calm me, Bob starts asking me complex WDW questions to occupy my mind. ("Name the last 10 attractions, in order, to be opened at WDW.")

Finally, at 89 minutes, our tow truck arrives. The back right side of the truck looked like it had been mauled by a tiger. The driver points it out to tell us to stay far to the side -- he was hit and almost killed the previous week while hooking up someone's van. We eventually climb into the truck for the sloooooow trip over the bridge and into Philadelphia. The tow truck is an old one and I was rather afraid the latch on the door that was holding us in was quite rusted. I put my arm around Bob's shoulder -- partly for emotional support, and partly because... if I fell out of the truck when the latch broke and the door swung open.... he was going with me.

Through the rattling of the truck and the groaning of its engine, we had a lovely chat with Brian for most of the trip -- until his ex-girlfriend started harrassing his cell phone. Finally, he picks up .... "First and foremost, I have customers. No,... no. Absolutely not. No... Look, first and foremost, I have customers." (As you can guess, this has become a phrase that Bob and I like to say to each other this morning.) We get off the major highways and have to direct him through our tiny little town while he's really getting into it with the woman on the phone.

Phew, we pull into the lot of our mechanic's shop. Brian drops us off and lightens our wallets by $105 (AAA only paid for 3 miles... I'm so getting the extended coverage today!)

Ever since the car first stalled, I'd been calling my neighbors and friends to see if anyone could pick us up at the mechanics (which is 7 miles from our home.) Nothin'... everybody's out watching fireworks, I guess. We have almost no cash now, so Bob ran across the street to a cash machine, while I called 411 to get a taxi company (they connected me to a place that dumped me into their voicemail. ) We finally headed into the only thing that was still open - a Revolutionary War-era bar and got the number of a taxi from the bartender. We schlepped back to our car and waited 30 minutes for the taxi to pull up. But it was not a yellow "checker" cab... it was a towncar. Ahhhh, a towncar -- it made me think of Disney right away.

That is, until the driver got out of the car and it was this huge, thick-necked guy in a "wife beater" muscle-shirt. He helped us put our luggage (which are actually two wash baskets full of dirty clothes and flip flops) into his trunk. Then we climbed in to find two dvd players strapped to the backs of the seats in front of us -- looping through the menu screen of a bad movie. Ugh!

The driver pulled out with enough g's to send us back into our seats and then zoomed through our sleepy little town like he was navigating Times Square on New Years Eve! After fearing for my life the first 5 minutes, we entered a PA state park area and I politely warned him that there are frequently deer on this road at this hour on a summer's night. He screeched to a halt, sending Bob and me both into the screens of the DVD players.

He proceeded through this area at -- and I'm not kidding, since I had a view of his spedometer -- 11 miles an hour, beeping his horn constantly. It's 11:00 at night (!!) and this is still a residential area (!!). We tried to calm him down, but he was scared stiff. (Bob's convinced that he once got mugged by a deer.) I started suffering from those hysterical giggles that happen when one is in church... Bob started squeezing my hand really hard in hopes that the pain would counter-act my mounting hysteria. It didn't work!

Finally, we got home and were relieved of another $25. The dogs were happy to see us and we were happy to see the inside of our home.

So, you can imagine that today is going to be all about not dealing with tow trucks, towncars, and, hopefully, deer!

I'll start on another thread soon!
