Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Girl Power - - Take Two Day 5 Updated 7/10

Day 5

My little one was a bit harder to wake this last morning of our trip. I think our jam packed week of fun was finally catching up to her. I sat in the bed beside her and watched the Today show with a cup of . She finally began stirring and gradually awoke after I said about 10 times “Didn’t you want to go swimming this morning?” Sometimes I am worse than a child on Christmas morning. Normal parents would probably just let their tired child sleep.

Once she was up, she was ready to go. We changed into our bathing suits and cover-ups and stopped by Roaring Forks for breakfast first. We did the pancake thing again and enjoyed every bite. We chanced the old “wait 30 minutes after eating” rule and immediately jumped into the pool after breakfast . The pool was full of ducks this morning which was a hoot – except for the duck poop . I know that they would have eventually flown away, but this know-it-all grandmother was in the pool with her grandsons and kept urging them to shoo away the ducks. Every time a duck tried to fly out of the pool, one of those children would actually shoo the duck back in. It actually ended up being funny, but we just tried to stay away from all of them (the ducks, the grandmother and the grandkids) .

After we had our fill of swimming, we waved goodbye to the pool that had shown us so much fun on this trip and returned to our room to get ready for the day. It was almost check-out time on the dot by the time that we had showered, dressed and finished packing. I knew that bell services would probably be busy this time of day, so I decided that we would just take our luggage ourselves to the stand to be stored for the day. Mary Devall pushed her stroller with our new tote bag stuffed with souvenirs while I pulled our luggage. Thankfully, we didn’t injure anyone or ourselves on the way to the bell stand (Mary Devall is a little dangerous with that stroller ).

Once our bags were checked, Mary Devall and I decided to take the bus to MK since the bus stop was only a few steps away. As we were making our way to the bus stop, I told Mary Devall that I didn’t want to leave and she popped up with “I think that Daddy should do all of the jobs so that we can stay here.” Oh, I was teaching my girl well. I suggested that we get him on the phone and tell him just that - - we did while we were waiting for our bus and he laughed at our suggestion. The bus came after about 10 or 15 minutes and we were the only ones on it besides one other family. Mary Devall insisted that we sit all the way in the back. I was a little afraid that the bus would be doing a FW stop first, but within 5 minutes we were at MK. Yeah!

As we walked up Main Street, Mary Devall immediately noticed that Cinderellabration was just beginning. We had caught the tail end of this show multiple times, but this was our first opportunity to see it from the beginning. Mary Devall had been begging to see it since our first day, so here was our chance. We moved as close as we could and then I actually hoisted her on my shoulders (we were at the back of the crowd so I knew we weren’t blocking anyone). Thank goodness she is a little bit or I wouldn’t have been able to do it. The entire time during the show I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to get her down. She really enjoyed the show – I could feel her waving to all of the princesses and clapping – so it was well worth the fifteen minutes of sore shoulders ! Thankfully, getting her down wasn’t a big deal and we were soon making our way to Fantasyland to pick up a fastpasses for Peter Pan. The return time was right before our lunch at CRT, so we had lucked out. We buzzed over to the Magic Carpets for a spin and walked through her beloved tree house one last time. Then back to Fantasyland to ride IASW and use our fastpasses to ride Peter Pan (Hey Nana!). We had just enough time to run over to Pooh for fastpasses which would be our last ride of the day since we had to be back at WL by 6 p.m. for Waseem to take us to the airport.

With our Pooh fastpasses in hand, we checked in at CRT for our lunch with the princesses. When I had told Mary Devall last night that we were lunching with the princesses today, she had wanted to wear her Belle dress again but I told her that we had to pack it. That morning she had decided on her own to wear her princess hat instead. I thought it was a great compromise. We had just a short wait to meet Cinderella and Mary Devall was star struck as usual. After her photo op, we took a restroom break and then waited for our name to be called. Our last name is never pronounced correctly and it is loud in there anyway, so I always just wait until I hear something that begins with a “K” sound and no one else claims it. Sure enough, when it happened this time, it was us. We made our way up the stairs to the host stand where Mary Devall was immediately given a wand and a sparkling star.

I was so excited when we were shown our table. We were seated right beside one of the beautiful stained glass windows with a gorgeous view of the carousel.

We ordered our food - - chicken fingers for Mary Devall and pork tenderloin for me. A CM brought by Mary Devall’s picture with Cinderella which turned out cute (and even though it is pricey to eat here now, I have to admit that it was nice already having the picture paid for).

The princesses and the fairy godmother arrived quickly and Mary Devall was in heaven. They all commented on her princess hat, so she was tickled by that.

After they had all come and gone, our food and arrived and we enjoyed it immensely. We both were excited by the idea of dessert – Mary Devall had loved her ice cream with chocolate crown back in January and I had loved the blueberry cobbler with lemon ice cream. At the same time, our yummy desserts were served, I noticed that the fairy godmother and princesses were all aflutter in the room. The fairy godmother was instructing all of the children in our area to pull out their wands and get ready. Music was piped in over the PA system and a voice began telling the children to make a wish at the count of three. They all had to close their eyes, say “bibbidy, bobbidy, boo” and then say a wish. When the children opened their eyes, lights were sparkling in the ceiling of the castle. It was a new little experience at the castle and very sweet - - just to see the serious expression on Mary Devall’s face as she made her wish was priceless. I asked Mary Devall what she had wished for and she said “my ice cream.” Wish granted.

We had a terrific server (she even graciously brought Mary Devall a replacement chocolate crown when she managed to drop the first one on the floor ), great food and a wonderful experience. I just love ending our vacation in this castle.

When we left, we had a couple of hours before we had to head back to WL. We headed over to Toon town so that Mary Devall could visit the “houses” one last time.

We actually spotted Pluto without a line outside of Minnie’s house this time (seeing a character without a line must have rattled me because I took the first picture with the lens cap on and this picture turned out blurry).

Pluto spurred a need for more characters, so we went to the Judge’s Tent to wait first for the Pooh characters and then for Mickey’s pals.

It was time for our Pooh fastpass return, but when we approached the ride I had an eerie feeling . . . something was wrong . . . then I realized that no one was standing in line. The ride was broken! Well, poo (and I don’t mean Winnie)! I told Mary Devall that the ride probably wouldn’t be fixed before we left and she took it in stride even though it’s one of her favorites. We went back to the Judge’s tent to buy the photopass cd of all our pictures. We paid for our purchase and then browsed around a little while they processed our order. A CM called us over and added some additional pictures with borders, logos etc. before handing over the cd to us. This is the second time that we have purchased a photopass cd and we love it.

Our next plan was to let Mary Devall shop for her new princess outfit on Main Street (she knew what she wanted, but wouldn’t tell me because it was a surprise). As we exited Toon town, I noticed that Pooh was up and running so we took a detour and used our fast passes . This is one of Mary Devall’s top 5 rides, so it was wonderful to have it be her last ride of the trip. She smiles throughout the ride especially at the end when we get to say “hurray!”

We were officially running a little late on time, but when she saw the Queen of Hearts outside of the tea cups we had to stop. She had seen almost all of the Alice characters on this visit with the exception of the Mad Hatter.

After we survived meeting the Queen of Hearts, we double timed it to Main Street where we parked the stroller and went in search of the perfect princess outfit. When I told Mary Devall that it was time to reveal her big secret, she looked around and went right to the one that I had guessed. She looked at me with stars in her eyes as she announced “Jasmine.” We didn’t have much time, so I quickly looked for the XS only to discover that there were none. We asked the CM behind the register if they had any in the back and another CM said that she had just checked for someone else and that there were none. She suggested that we go to Tinkerbell’s Treasures. I turned around to break the bad news to Mary Devall and suggest that she pick a second choice. When I told her, her face just crumpled into . Now I know the difference between “dramatic” crying and “heartbroken” crying in my child and this was pure, unadulterated “heartbroken” crying. Forget what the clock said, we were going to Tinkerbell’s Treasures. I was not having our trip end with her heart broken. I grabbed her hand and we ran to Tinkerbell’s Treasures (we left the stroller on Main Street since I figured we could make it faster on foot). We went through the side door and immediately spotted the rack of Jasmine outfits where an XS was waiting just for us. Mary Devall just beamed . She then was entranced by all of the accessories that came with it. Without evening looking at me, she said “Momma, I’m going to need all of this stuff too.” A man was walking near us and just cracked up when he heard that (he must have a daughter too). We grabbed pretty much everything they had (including the wig) and checked out with the slowest CM in the universe. We briskly walked back to Main Street (with a stop for water to rehydrate), collected the stroller and said goodbye to MK. When we approached the ferry launch to WL, a boat was just arriving so we were going to make it despite running late . After our sprint across half of MK, it was nice to just sit on the boat, rest our feet and share a bottle of water.

Once back at WL, we stopped by Roaring Forks to use our last two CS credits on the DDP plan and pick up to go cheeseburgers for the airport. They packed everything for us and we slowly made our way outside to the bell stand. While they located our bags, one of the valets pointed to a car where Waseem was already waiting for us (we still managed to make it out on time, but Waseem is always early). When he got out of the car, Mary Devall called out his name, ran to him and gave him a big hug. Everyone laughed and probably a few CM’s wondered what kind of relationship we had with our driver.

Waseem and I chatted some in the car while Mary Devall colored the activity book that he had brought for her (one of the reason why she loves him ). We were quiet after a while and Mary Devall suddenly asked “Waseem, are you sleeping up there?” We all got a good out of that. Waseem pulled us up to curbside check-in and made sure that we were taken care of before he left (I had to force him to take a tip - - what a sweetheart). Once our luggage and stroller were checked, we moved inside and headed for security. Before we went through security, I sat down my bags and repacked the Jasmine paraphernalia into our tote bag to cut down on the number of bags that I was carrying. We made it through security fairly quickly and then caught the monorail to the gates. Our flight was leaving from the teeny “D” gate area downstairs, but luckily it wasn’t so terribly crowded this time. I snagged a row of seats for us by a window and then spread out our food picnic style. Mary Devall actually sat on the floor using my jacket as a blanket so she really did think that she was on a picnic. After eating, we spent the rest of our wait working on her sticker book (600 stickers goes a long, long way). Our flight was about 20 minutes delayed, but the time actually went by pretty quickly. Right before we boarded, I gave Thom a call to let him know to put the liquor away and to send the women home because we were on our way home.

When we pulled away from the gate, the pilot announced that there was some stormy weather ahead and pretty much guaranteed a bumpy flight for us. Oh great! In actuality, there was very little turbulence so apparently we lucked out. The one time that the plane did hit turbulence, he dropped altitude. We had a trainee flight attendant and she happened to be right in front of us when it happened. The expression on her face was complete terror. I couldn’t help but smile and hope that she was able to work on her poker face in the coming months before she terrified a plane load of passengers. She did find me a bottle of white wine and dump tons of crackers and cookies on us, so I liked her immediately . Mary Devall and I enjoyed our snacks and continued to work on her sticker book (although oddly enough we were doing the “emergency vehicle” page and one of the vehicles was an airport fire truck.)

Before we knew it, our plane had descended and landed (safely so no airport fire truck would be needed). I love our short hour flight. We gathered up our bags, thanked our trainee flight attendant and stepped off the plane. We hurried through the airport and immediately spotted Thom with the stroller just beyond security. Mary Devall ran to him and was swallowed up in a big bear hug and I ran to the stroller to see my baby girl. She was wide awake and gave me the biggest grin when she saw me. I must have kissed that face 100 times that night. Leaving Disney is hard, but coming home to that dimply face made me realize that I had left part of my heart at home.

Next up . . . some final thoughts

We had trouble last year finding that Jasmine costume in XS for Macy. I think it has been her favorite one she still wears it quite often. I can't wait to see a picture of Mary Devall in hers.

Glad the trip home was relatively smooth!

Oh my goodness! I am so glad Tinkerbell's Treasures had the Jasmine costume in an XS!!!!!

Once again, great pictures. Mary Devall is just too cute. And even though you had to leave WDW, your homecoming brought tears to my eyes.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful adventures with us.

Fabulous update Jill. It's clear that you've had a wonderful time with Mary Devall and I can't wait to take a similar trip with Kat.

Oh, Jill. You made me all weepy with your reaction to seeing Maddie's dimply face!

Thank goodness I was still laughing over this:

Miss Cupcake has completely stolen my heart. I have GOT to plan a trip that coincides with one of yours - Mary Devall and I have a lot in common and I think you and I would get ourselves in trouble with our senses of humor!

I'm looking forward to your final thoughts.

Re: Girl Power - - Take Two Our fifth and final day Updated 7/10

Okay, if you’ve read this entire tr, you’re probably wondering if there is anything left for me to say (I do realize how wordy I get ). I do, believe it or not, have a few thoughts that haven’t been discussed at length yet.

First of all, I have come to the realization that I am good at keeping surprises, but not good at revealing them . When it was finally time for me to tell Mary Devall that Monday morning that we were going to Disney (to the point where we were dressed and about to walk out the door), my mind went blank. I can’t believe that I hadn’t thought of some cool way to let her know. I finally came up with something lame about her needing to go with me to Disney to pick up our tickets for MNSSHP (which I had bought a couple of days before over the phone). She was excited, but the true excitement didn’t begin until we were mid-flight and I suddenly realized that she had no idea that we were staying the entire week (and not just running an errand). When I said “You do know that we are staying the whole week?” she her hands and the real excitement began. Throughout the week, she delighted in telling perfect strangers (usually people sitting beside us on the monorail, bus or boat - - in other words, they were trapped ) that I had tricked her. She would tell them that she hadn’t wanted to go to school that day, but I told her that she had to and then I surprised her by saying that we were going to Disney. Then she would tell them “And we are staying the WHOLE week!” So I guess my lack of a really cool reveal ended up being okay.

This was our first time trying out the DDP. Since it was only the two of us on this trip, I thought it would be a good opportunity for a test run before the entire family tried it. I have to say that I loved it! It was so great knowing that most of our meals were paid for and it made us try some things that we normally would not have (mainly a lot of the counter service restaurants). We ended up saving well over $100! We’ll be doing DDP again in October and we should save even more money since our big eater (Thom) will be along for the ride this time. And Disney should probably be a little afraid that Maddie will most probably be eating table food by then because the girl loves, loves, loves to eat.

We had some so-so dining experiences (we ate so little at Chef Mickey’s that the CM didn’t even charge us a TS credit for Mary Devall) and some fantastic ones. I had devoured many a mouth watering tr on this site about Artist Point (I’m talking about you, Larry and Terri ), so I was so excited to be able to finally try it. AP did not disappoint - - the atmosphere, the service and the food were everything that I had hoped for. LTT was a new experience also and Mary Devall and I had an absolute blast there - - the food is homey yet delicious and the character interaction was top notch. Our repeat breakfasts at PSB and Donald’s were as yummy and fun as ever and our dinner at Garden Grill will probably go down as Mary Devall’s best ever character experience (you just can’t beat a chipmunk flipping icing on The Living Land rocks). The desserts there were yummy also. CRT has just evolved into a last day tradition for us - - eating a delicious lunch in the castle with all of the princesses surrounding you really takes the sting out of leaving.

I really enjoyed all of the CS meals that we tried. Normally, we eat a big breakfast and a big dinner and just snack during lunch. The dining plan gave us the opportunity to pepper some quick and casual meals in between the sit down ones. The burgers at Pecos Bill and Roaring Forks (even after traveling with us to the airport) were very tasty and the chicken sandwich at Tusker House was delicious. We used the rest of our CS credits for pancake breakfasts at Roaring Forks which we really enjoyed - - Mary Devall ate like she was being starved both times.

We used the snack credits for a lot of water, a couple of ice cream cookie sandwiches, and one cupcake. Those credits came in very handy!

More than anything I wanted this trip to be about doing things that we normally did not take the time or effort to do. First and foremost on that list was the Princess Tea. Mary Devall was over the moon at being able to wear her Belle dress again and being showered with presents and attention. She loved interacting with Rose Petal, Baron Branch and Sleeping Beauty, but I do believe that she eventually got a little restless during Rose Petal’s stories and songs. It’s a lot to ask a 4-year-old to stay seated for 1 and ½ hours. We both thoroughly enjoyed it though and she still talks about her tea party. We just finished four scrapbook pages just for the tea, so she’ll be able to relive it for years to come. I’ve been telling her about the other activities that are offered such as the pirate cruise and the Alice tea party and she is very excited about trying one of those next (maybe on our trip next June).

Speaking of “the” Belle dress, Mary Devall’s first surprise of the trip (other than the trip itself) was finally being able to wear her Belle dress to PSB. Watching her primp and parade around in that dress was worth any trouble it took to bring it. With all of the little girls dressed up as their favorite princesses, I was surprised at how many times that people at her or told her how pretty she was. They really knew how to make a princess’s day.

Another first for Mary Devall was learning to appreciate Epcot - - and I know I succeeded when I heard the “I had a good day today” comment at the end of the day. Thanks to an article about things to do at Epcot with children that had been published recently at Allearsnet and suggestions from PP buddies, I was able to make an index card full of fun activities for us to do. We spent half the day at FW and half the day at WS, but I honestly believe that we could have filled the entire week with Epcot fun. There is really not much at Epcot that Mary Devall will “ride,” so we filled the day with baking cookies, finding Nemo, zapping fire hazards, playing in fountains and visiting each and every country to finish a mask. This was my favorite day of the trip!

Our kickback afternoon at WL was also something that we had never done - - be at Disney without going to a park?!? Oh, the horror of it! This was actually Mary Devall’s decision and she made a good one. We needed a relaxing afternoon smack dab in the middle of our vacation.

Mary Devall also discovered the beauty and wonder of AK by participating in the Kids’ Discovery club. She was so excited by finding each club station and learning something at every one. I loved watching her little face just take it all in.

Mary Devall had never had an autograph book, so this was a new activity this trip also. She took right to it and insisted on getting a character's "photograph" before hugging or a picture took place. She has enjoyed flipping through that book so much and it is such an incredible souvenir.

One of the things that I will always remember from this trip comes from our last few moments at MK. After the CM had told me that they didn’t have Mary Devall’s size in the Jasmine costume and we took off running to Tinkerbell’s Treasures, I looked down at Mary Devall’s face and saw nothing but pure joy. The fact that her mom was running through MK and taking the chance of being late was not lost on her. To her it was a grand adventure. She has recounted that story several times since our return.

Was the trip everything I thought it would be? and so much more. We didn't let things go by in a blur - - we savored every single moment. And it just makes me so ready to go back again.

Thank you guys so much for reading, reading and reading some more. I think of you guys so much when I'm at Disney (and sometimes I'm even lucky enough to see you in person as I did with Monica on this trip ), but one day I truly realized how lucky I am to be a Passporter. On our bus ride to AK one morning, we sat behind a family who was half heartedly listening to the poor mother pull out one guide book after another telling them what they should see. She actually had three large guidebooks in her backpack (she probably visited the chirpractor not long after the trip ). One was a Passporter, so she was on the right path . . . but I kept thinking "if she only knew what I knew."

I'll be back after our October trip with a full report of our first ever MNSSHP . . . answering such heart stopping questions as "How many times will Thom ride RnRC?" . . . "Will Mary Devall wear her Jasmine costume to MNSSHP?" . . . "Will Maddie cry when she sees the first character?" . . . and finally "Will Jill have another mango margarita?" Well, I think we all know the answer to that last one!
